I'm not sure there is anything I would say to do before starting, but when you do start you will be presented with a tutorial.  Pay close attention to everything in the tutorial, don't skip, and play the tutorial to the end.  If there are many things in the tutorial that you don't understand, seriously consider creating a second character and playing through it a second time.

Take advantage of the newbie chat channel and the local channel.  Ask questions!  Even after the tutorial you will have far more questions than answers.

As soon as possible, find the EVE University chat channel and take your more difficult questions there.  These are some of the most helpful players in EVE and are happy to support new players through their starting trial.  If you decide to continue past the trial account seriousl consider becoming a member of the EVE University Corporation.

Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.  EVE takes time, but if you can wrap your mind around the EVE mindset it is likely the most satisfying game you will ever play.

Good luck!

Most important thing is to find a good Cor to join.

Dont adventure to far out. its dagerous for a nub :p

take your time and do the whole trial...dont rush or you will regret it.

try and decide what your main aim in the game is...pvp, missions....mining...industry ect ect..

Hi,
no you can't.

Really make sure you go through every step of tutorial. Press F12 and run all tutorials you find in Tutorials tab until you understand how all those things work.

I have been playing EVE for over 4 years and still love it.  In my opinion, Eschiava's advice is right on target.

Do not be afraid to ask questions...many people in Eve love to talk.  It will probably be the most active, helpful community you have ever seen.

I'm sorry but I cannot agree with that statement. Eve has one of the worst and most unhelpful communities you will see although it is by no means as bad as WoW.

The first thing to remember when playing Eve is that assume everyone is looking to gank, trick, steal from or simply have Concorde kill you by exploiting flag mechanics (you know the guys that drop containers saying 'free loot for new players' then laugh as they die).

I am not saying everyone is like that but Eve, being primaraly a Pvp ganking focused game attracts more of these type than any other game.

Eve is a great game but be prepared for a game where the Devs will no enforce any behaviour rules whatsoever and newbies are preyed upon like no other game you have seen. Find a good corp if you can and trust no-one. If you thought the leet pvp kiddies in Wow were bad you ain't seen nothing yet.

Take a peek and the official forums and you will get the idea.

You don't know how the flagging system works, do you?
Other than that, this is a bannable offense.
