* Some of these groups will not be active yet when Darkfall releases. They will be added later as parts of post launch content patches. Maybe I'm missing something here, but when I buy a new game I'd like it to be a finished product. I fully recognize that through the course of play there may be some bugs to work out and of course balancing issues that are always part of new games, but why are so many publishers pushing out games that they know aren't done? Furthermore why do they tell me they aren't done? To me it's kinda like going to a job interview and only taking part of your portfolio with you. Then after they look at your stuff and say its not too bad you tell them about all the other stuff that you have and how much better it makes the overall portfolio. Guess what? They'll think you're an idiot for not just bringing everything to begin with and you can bet they won't hire you. So why do we keep 'hiring' unfinished games and paying monthly fees while they go home and get their other content? With as much competition as there is on the market it just seems like it would make more sense to hold off on release until all the promised material was included. You can still add more later, but don't tell me about features or items that I can't have. Dev's need to bring their best stuff right from the start or why should I pay them?

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so as well. |
Maybe in DF's case, it's simply to attempt to show it isn't vaporware.

No MMO is ever done. If you waited for everything you'd like to put into a game to be in it would never release. So when you have a viable polished game you release it and go from there. Or in some cases you release a bugridden half finished travesty and try to overcome the rampant hatred. |

The OP must be originally a console gamer. Read this slowly so you understand, MMOs take time to develop and evolve not every feature will be perfect or even ready at launch. That is how mmos are if you don't like it go play Xbox.

This is one of the reasons that not everyone is an MMO gamer. Along with buying the game and paying monthly fees you have to also account for any server down-time, lag, some quests not working, etc. It's a constructive process, but those that do enjoy it, enjoy it a lot. |

Z3R01 Ouch, hate much? Maybe you need to ream my post a little more slowly mister uber online gamer man. I said I know about bugs and issues and evolution of online games. I don't live in a box. I don't expect everything to be all glowy and perfect I just find it annoying, (and after reading just about any AoC post I suspect that I'm not alone) that publishers talk about content that they know isn't going to be ready when the game releases. I don't see why they couldn't just, oh I dunno focus on the features that will actually be ready. Why tell me about things that could amount to little more then a twinkle in the game communities eye after launch. I'm all for patches and new content later, I just don't think that major content should be planned out and hyped only to be missing at launch. I'd rather read about it in patch notes then start playing and see all the 'coming soon' tags floating around. |

I wasn't complaining about any of the issues you mentioned in fact I fully comprehend and expect those types of issues. I was arguing that it's a waste for dev's to hype up content that isn't expected to be available at launch. Sorry you don't consider me a MMO gamer because have expectations that when I'm told something will be available that it actually is. |

People touched on how long it takes to make an MMO ... but even more, it is EXPENSIVE! You might have read this week that it costs Blizzard 200 million to maintain WoW. To the business people sitting upstairs, sometimes it is just not feasible to go on without some profit coming in, or in the worst cast, it just isn't possible. |
