So I was playing Warhammer the other night when I realized I was absolutely confused about the chat system....not because it's complicated but because the colors for each "chat" was different, as in guild chat was actually a light blue and Yell was a bold yellow.

Coming from WoW I loved the simplicity of it, so I decided to create "The Universal Gaming Law", what all games should include, please feel free to add:

1)Normal chat color: White,  Guild chat: Green, Whisper: purple, Yell: red, general chat (and others): a light tan.

2)Color code for items: Crap gear: gray,  Good gear: white,  Superior gear: green,  Rare gear: blue,  Epic gear: purple, Legendary gear: Orange,  and SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME GEAR: red.

Well....that's all I can think of at the minute, it's early and Im off to work, so please, feel free to add/change my 2 very short "laws'.

Cheers!

I've not player WAR, but I'm 90% sure there'll be an option to change the on-screen text colours. You're used to WoW, but other players are used to other schemes.

Have a look in the UI preferences, I'd be very surprised if you can't change them there.

Those are the colors WoW uses, why can't a mmo have its own colors for chat?

must every god damn mmo cater to the current or Ex wow player?

"this mmo is to hard to understand it should be like wow so my tiny brain isn't confused"

{Mod Edit}

Edit: a Wow player trying to make a MMO law thats freaking funny.

Nah, the color code for items should be:

White = Ordinary

Yellow = Well Made

Green = Master Crafted

Blue = Excellent

Purple = Superior

Gold = Ultimate

Your proposal for the chat colors are good though.

Haha, agreed. It's bad enough that the two games are so similar already..

“Game Experience May Change During Online Play” is about ESRB ratings, not changing game content!

While I agree with you whole-heartedly, there is something to be said for reducing the barriers to entry for your product when you're attempting to siphon off some of the competition's customers.  If anything, a better move for Mythic would have been to make everything customizeable (perhaps it is already) but default to the WoW colors....

I don't like it.  It feels too much a restriction on the devs of the future.  It may sound resonable now, but over time more and more things would be added.  In the end, wouldn't it just mean more of the same for any new games that come out?  Unless the community feels we don't already get enough of that.

I don't think there should be a universal default for all games. However, it would be nice if it were always customizable.  Colors don't bother me as much as everything going into one window.  I like being able to filter guild and tells into a seperate window.
