fanbois,haters,hypocrites. It gets very dull.

Someone in another thread said something about this and I thought about doing this thread on it. Here we go, I'll have a go at this.(I'll admit I'm a bit behind on the new expansions)

Old EQ:
Expansions: Kunark, Velious, Luclin and Old World
Long travelling
+particular statted items
Much slower xp rate
No instancing
No maps(other than printouts)
Sarnaks, frogloks, kobalds, gnolls, skeletons, giants
Dungeons
Senseheading a skillup

New EQ:
Expansions: PoP, LDoN, DoD, Omens of War, Prophecy of Ro, Burning Sea, Serpent's Spine, SoF
Nexus+Bazaar
PoK Books
Guild Hall + Guild Lobby +Guild banking
Graveyards
Out of Combat quickened Hp/Mana Regen
Tribute system
New versions of Freeport, Neriak Forest, Commonlands,North Ro, Innothule Swamp, Splitpaw(?)
Charms
Power Sources
Recommended/Required lvls on items
/barter, /buyer commands
Destructible objects
Soulbinders
+Generalistic stat items
Veteran Rewards- that include doubling your xp rate and giving yourself a rez
Instancing
Maps
Tasks
New tradeskill system with recipes and that
Strong raiding game
Shroud system
Epic 1.5's and 2's
LoN cardgame
Frogloks
Focus Effects
Compass

I am going to say I do like some of the additions the new game has, and oddly I'm going to confess to very much liking the revamped Freeport and Commonlands. The rest I've just sorted listed for listing sake and pointig out it's difference- though I'm trying to remember some of the more masochistic aspects of the old that have been altered(or improved).

Put your hand inside the puppet head.

The instanced areas added to the old world came along with LDoN. Prior to that, there was no instancing in EQ. And prior to Legacy of Ykesha, there were no in-game maps. At all.

I really prefer the new EQ over the old EQ. It's just more fun. I like some of the revamped zones, and others, not so much.

I prefer new eq up to LDoN thats when some of the stuff started getting out of control suck as the revamp of old zones, but I would have to say old eq with all its long runs, asking for a port if you didn't bind in qeynos when you where bound in gfay due to pvp. all those little things made it eq but some of the new things where fun i like doing LDoN on occasion.

EQ- Tallon zek
Fdyen Faedra`Vie-75 Paladin former Knight of the White Rose (Retired)

The funny thing is that I always hated asking for ports.  I thought ports made the world generic, and I always thought that everyone should have to use boats.  It is unfair that two classes, above all others, should be able to port.   I thought it was so unfair that an already overpowered class, and probably the best solo class at the time, could make a fortune porting, sowing, and buffing people.

The original class designers either really loved Druids or were not aware of how overpowered they made them with 1) ports, 2) buffs, 3) sow, 4) soloability, 5) heal (they can completely heal like a cleric), and of course 6) resists.  I think they even got 7) track and 8) forage.  Oh, they also did 9) not aggro animals.  Least we forget they are great 10) dps as well.

The Druid was the "jack of all trades and master of all."

Yeah, when I was playing EQ I felt the same way about druid and wizard ports.  I thought that it was BS that just those two classes could port.  They should have had to run on foot like everyone else.

But partly it annoyed me because it tied in with one of my big pet peeves with the game.  As you mentioned druids and wizards could make money selling ports.  Druids could also make money selling sows.  Clerics could make money selling rezes.  Enchanters sold clarity and had a monopoly on jewel crafting.  Shamans--sow and buffs and had a monopoly on potions.  And all spellcasters could sell binds.

Pure melee classes and most hybrids had no built in spells/abilities to sell.  Which seemed incredibly unfair to me.  I mean, people always talked about interdependance but it's pretty one sided when half the classes have something to offer and half of them have nothing to offer.

And yes, druids really did have it made, at least when I was playing.  Traveling was trivial for them.  They could make ridiculous money pimping out their ports and sows.  They were one of the three classes who could be healers in experience groups and as such it was fairly easy for them to get into groups.  And they were one of the top soloing classes (I actually rated them as THE top solo class when all factors were considered).

For old EQ add:

  • to regenerate mana you had to sit while meditating.  The scenery and action was blocked out during meditation.
  • mana and health regeneration was slow.  Lots of downtime between fights

Downtime ... >shudders<  Who has time for downtime?

The white-knuckle classic people that insist on these "features" (flaws?) do not know what they want.

Be careful for what you wish for.
