personally i don't like RS anymore, but i've noticed that it's econemy is settling down back to the original prices of items. a rune 2-hander is now only 50K, if u wanna make money on RS i advise u stick to PvP/PKing kuz everything else doesn't make anymore money

Forum Poll

Internet Pirates are like the modern day Robin Hood. They take from the rich, and give to the poor.

Runescapes economy is a joke. People used to treasure 1k, that was in the good ol' days. Now, people carry around 23 MILLION dollars and just end up selling it on ebay.

Runescape's economy was ultimately ruined by the early on high level smithers. A good example would be Amazonia, but with more recent measures. Namely, she constructed a website  to display how she was corrupting the economy. (The geocities URL was ceased a while ago.) I believe she called her "masterplan," the "Runite Revolution." Runite was the best metal in the game, used for both the best weapons and the best armor. (The members' servers now offer Dragon, or whatever stupid generic name they call it). Her plan? To mass produce runite items to supply the lands of Runescape!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't her fault. It goes way back to the initial programming and concept of the game. To increase your ability to make good items, you had to keep smithing items. (Very repetitive, at that. Zzzz). These smithers were doing what anyone would do and smithed the highest level of metal they could in order to reap the wealthy rewards. We all know that  when you increase an iem's circulation in a society, it's value drops significantly (note Japanese currency for a good example).

So, GG Runescape. Try again next year.

That that is not not, is.

runescape's economy was not ruined by the "smithers"  economies cannot be based souly on player made items.  That adds to "Monopoly theory ".

Jagex made one mistake, and that was dropping rares (Jagex is the creator of the game) when they dropped the rares, they only dropped it once.  BUt because only so few at the time were playing, the value of the item was low.  But as time grew, more players came in, and those more demand for one product came up.

Now the main economy is mostly based on these rare items.  Smithable items are are what they are worth now in the stores.  I have always felt that rune 2handers for 1 mil gps was way too much, or even kites for 800k gps.

Now as time progressed, more players pumped out more items, thus decreasing the value. Makes sense.  What this did though was added to the fact that more people could afford playing.  Thus in the end, the creators of Runescape benefited, because more players playing, means more chances of people getting members.

Now, the skills they are introducing, help make characters not need the aspect of money, by making characters "self sufficient."  once people begin to become more self sufficient, and not needing to buy things , whats the point of having gps.  It will still be their.

but in all honesty, having an economy evolve around drops that were only made once, isn't a good idea.  Even though they know how many items were dropped.

well, the problem with Runescape is, that its so easy to make money, and difficult to treasure money. If you are a good smither, then you can easily catch money (about 4k in an hour), if you are an adventurer (like me before I also found out how to make money easy), you will have the same 4k in about a day. So the choice is not so difficult, is it?

But I voted it was good, because there are much ways how to make money and much items to use. But Jagex (the developer) made a giant mistake by having the mining and smithing skills installed. An example: you see on a place where there is much trading (Varrock Square) almost only: 'selling addy (almost the most expensive metal) plate boddy' or 'selling rune (the most expensive metal) plate legs. This is the biggest mistake Jagex made: easy money

I`m still playing that game (if loging in to do something when you don`t want to do anything may be considered to be playing) one day I was crafting (or maybe I should say making useles items very fast ?) and I realised what is wrong with runescape economy - problem isn`t smithibg or rares but all system - you level up so fast that anything that is less then the best (like iron armor) is absolutely worthless.

"Jeg er hvar jeg er"

I have played runescape for a year and a half now and I have come to the conclusion that with the increase of people and the communiction of their ideas perfection has arisen.

Communication = Generalization = Population = Demand = Quantity and when there is quantity,

Quantity = Demand of Value = Value = Perfection
