Just out of curiosity, how much did the IP licensing cost them? I tried to find the answer to this question myself and did not have any luck. I am trying to figure out how much it costs, in general, to license an IP to use in a video game.

It probably really doesn't cost anything. It's probably more an agreement between SOE and Lucas saying something along the lines of, you are allowed to use the license but you have to pay us some % of profit or some such thing.  I could be wrong .

"pay us some % of profit or some such thing" is exactly what I am looking for / curious about. If Lucas took a cut from the sales or monthly payment then that would be an operational expense for SOE. Hence, a cost.

Absolutely no telling.

Literally.

This is one of those things that SOE and LEC would hide deep inside their contracts so that no one but executives and the guys who move money around would have the slightest notion of.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Has it been confirmed that SOE have a license for the IP? I mean it could be that LA hired SOE to create a star wars mmo, and pay them to keep the game going. I have no idea really, just asking. Can´t remember where i read it or even when, but somewhere i recall reading that LA paid SOE to have X number of developers working on SWG.

"However big you think you are"

It cost them their reputation.

Honestly I've heard 10 mil to 1 mil to there is no licence fee. All speculation. I would imagine that the exclusive rights to the SW IP in MMO's is outrageous. I would imagine that LEC wants to keep it exclusive because of that. Who knows though, not me thats for sure.

Lucas Arts charges very heavily for any use of their IP.

Yeah, I used to hate the game because of NGE as much as anyone, but I've been playing the game since Feb. 2008 and have honestly had a good time. If you hate the game, fantastic, move along. Its all been said before and your continuous griefing just makes you look like a sad individual with nothing better to do.

About 250k subscriptions.

But on a serious note, I don't think anyone really knows besides the people in the coprorations. I have heard the SW license costs a LOT though.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Jumpgate Evolution, Earthrise, Fallen Earth, anything sandbox.
