EVE Online

Just a quick question, i'm not really interested in pvp is there anything else to eve than pvp ?

 I'm not interested in PvP either ... there's plenty of games that make better use of fast reflexes than EVE Online.  That's why I really like EVE .  

I've got one character learning how to explore space for fame and riches, another who's trained wicked trading skills and is rolling in dough without even leaving the station, and another alt that is specialized to mine after missions.

There's almost too much to do ...

Nearly everything in Eve is pvp in some fashion.  There's lots to do that doesn't involve shooting other players though.

I dont really like the PvP in Eve.  Its more of who can gank who and boost about it making you feel like crap.  You can have fun and not get into PvP just watch your back and just run missions but dont tell anyone or you will be told to "go back to WoW carebear".  When bored with mission you can try and kill NPCs in low and zero sec space but on the way back you will most likely get ganked at a gate.

I do love exploring space etc in games so I think i'll download the trial and try it.

There's a quote somewhere and I can't remember it fully so going to paraphraze it; "If you like EVE but you don't like PVP, then perhaps you must conclude that you really don't like EVE afterall".

Trying to evade PVP IS possible, but it makes for very boring gameplay and essentially means you shield yourself from a large part of the game, the playerbase and (imo) the fun. It's ok to be 'scared' at first but I'd urge you to try and accept the PVP with open arms, you'll have more fun that way.

I'm 37 years old i've pvp in games since the early muds about 20 odd years, both as a pker and a pk hunter, I don't "mind"  pvp i've just become very very jaded with the whole pvp genre, so I quite enjoy pvp but I won't play a game where i'm forced to pvp :)

Just like I don't mind grouping but I won't play a game i'm forced to group in.

In EvE you arent forced to group, but you are bound to fail if you dont work with others towards common goals. About pvp, well its a bit more ..  lets say sophisticated than most mmo`s outhere. More rewarding also.
 

There's a lot of truth in this thread. Rare for MMORPG.com.

I have made a living in low sec space and specialize in evading the inevitable ambushes. One might find that fun and challenging. I know I do.

Especially when I deal in valuable goods.

All that said, you will probably not play for long unless you make or take friends. It's a cold, cold universe!
