First of all, I'm having a blast with Warhammer. I love the tome of knowledge and all the little things that makes the game have such depth to it.  But I noticed after two days that NO ONE talks.  I havent seen one single sentence so far so I started trying to chat with no luck.  Do the chat channels even work?

I tried to do /1 like people say and it says there's no such channel. So I try channellist and it says you belong to no channels.  I do a channeljoin 1 and it will say channel 2: 4 people or something like that.   I have tried both /channel order and /channel destruction with no luck.

I've changed all of my chat to different colors so i can see if anyone's talking but after two days still nothing.  What gives. Is no one talking or is it broken?

If it's just me then please tell me how to join channel 1 or how to chat.  I will be ever appreciative.  Thank you.

Even back in beta I've never had problems of not being in a chat channel.  But the thing simply is, most players in WAR, simply don't have reason to talk in general.

Heres some tips.

1. join a guild.

2. send tells to people you run across, asking if you want to play together.

WAR does not offer any real "breaks" from the combat to have people bored while traveling or regenning hp to  start up just bored convos(as you see in wow)

There are also certain campaigns on some servers which are simply underplayed.  For example on Praag as a dwarf it took me till level 10 actually complete a pq because there was simply NO dwarves around to do it with.

Yeah no one talks in general.

It is kind of strange really.

My theory is the following:

1) the general chat is split up into subzones, making it much less useful.  There is no barrens wide chat type thing going on.

2) if people really want to coordinate with a large number of people they join or make an open warband

3) people tend to be a bit more task oriented.  If you are RvRing or doing a PQ idle chat across the whole zone is not something you do.  Maybe while guarding a place you might idly chat with yoru party or warband.  Idle chat is more of a thing with questing or downtime.

4) Basically the open party/wb format means that people kind of easily get into a small social framework rather than just throwing stuff out across the zone wide chat and seeing who answers.  WAR is more personal and less anonymous people talking in a way.  You want to socialize, join an open party or group instead of just talking to random strangers who may not even want to hear you or make fun of you for asking a question etc.

So basically people completely ignore it.

Get in a warband there is plenty of chat.  Get in a guild its the typical stuff.  But general seems to not be looked at.

2 things are happening that you may not realize.

1. people are doing scenarios and chatting within their scenario groups. people are chatting among their warband/party/guild

2. People are having too much fun RvR'ing or pve'ing to really be botherd with chatrooming it.  Im sure that as more players get closer to endgame youll see people standing around crafting and chatrooming it.

shout around for a warband, or check out the little find a party icon under your characters picture top left.

there is plenty of communicating going on, its just itsnt out in the open, which is nice.

I found the lack of chat weird as well in game usually during a release all you here are chuck norris jokes and references to other games but havnt heard any of that. Not even a "Warhammer sucks" or "grahics here suck" in game. Then i realized i am part of the problem as well I am just to busy to chat. I actually feel overwhelmed with stuff to do from time to time. Me and my friends talk constantly in vent but rarely type in game chat.

In WOW I did most of my chatting while waiting for a boat to come or taking a flight path to somewhere. In other MMO's it was usually the same I would chat during downtime but I have yet to really have any since I dont need to go to a battlemaster to que for PVP and travel is pretty much instant. Maybe im the only one who is constantly busy but I am thinking there are others and thats why there is a lack of chat.

People not mindlessly yapping away in public chat channels is a good thing!  There's no need for it.  No need to spam "lfg" either since the game has an excellent open grouping system that most people use.

If you''re going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you''re going to be locked up.

Id have to say people are just having to much fun in game to talk I guess.   While I am having tons of fun, Its still nice to have a chat here and there.   I thought the chat was broken to for awhile, I would send tell's to people and got nothing back for a while then finally someone messaged me back.lol

But im joining a friends guild once I get his right player name. He told me his player name and I messaged him like 4 times and even sent mail no responce. Another reason why I thought chat was broken.  Either I have the wrong guy or he never saw my messages or you cant send tells from Realm to Realm.  So IDK.  Hopefully I can get things going.

Playing Guild Wars. Waiting for Fallen Earth and SE new MMO.

The lack of general chat confused me for a while, but I think cukimunga nailed it, you just don't have time to chat because you're kept so busy all the time, there's almost too much to do.

Although if you do stop someone, generally they're willing to have a chat in /say. More personal as someone else in this thread already mentioned.

It's growing on me.

To the OP and anyone else concerned with chat ---

First off right click your chat tab, click FILTER.. make sure there is a checkmark in your list of channels (1-9 I believe)and then click accept. This will enable all chat channels. For some reason there are some without channels turn on by default, not sure why.

You can then go in and change the chat channel color to a more desireable color . Hope this he
