Have you tried Pirates of the Burning Sea? Just don't play it for the Avcom.

I'm still fairly heavily stuck to that game. It has, probably by far, the best PvP available in any game I've played. Of course that's my personal opinion.

Don't mock me my friend. It's a condition of mental divergence.

Well I didn't see you mention Ryzom, you could try that and I think it is still free.

When I played it I thought it was ok.  The living environments are nice and it isn't your typical fantasy game. If you really like crafting the stats on items and socializing then it might be a good choice.

Here I was complainin' about loss of pride and how life had treated me, and now I realized... I never had any pride

Yeah, that's the only problem; I have an addictive personality  and I don't want to spend too much time on an MMO.

Aye i tried that the first it was released as well as last year lol

Im serious when I say Ive tried virtually every MMO ever made that is "mainstream." Mainstream meaning I know there are thousands of Korean and Chinese mmos out there I never tried (nor will) but I essentially played em all.

The forum on the left over there?

<---

Played every single one of em.

I have given thought to Aion (but that looks like a Lineage clone to me) and I have my eyes on Huxley, Star Trekonline and Champions but for the most part I think im done with mmos. If the other games I just mention grabs my interest then I will enjoy getting back into the genre.

But so far with the games that have been released in the last 2.5 years, well, I haven't been impressed whatsoever with em. Just my opinion.

While alot of people think WoW saved the genre I think it hurt it in alot of ways and most importantly was the social aspect.....The OP mentioned that no oen talks in Warhammer....The reason why is because all games have followed WoWs pattern of making everything have very little downtime.....Everyone thought that all action and no talking was a good thing but they were wrong......Factor in new programs like ventrilo and otehr voice chats where people dont have to talk on any of the public channels anymore and you ahve less interaction......Factor in that all these games now are geared more towards the soloer than towards the group and you get even less social interaction.......When I played EQ I knew several people that just hung out in POK and chatted.....I made more friends in EQ than all other MMOs I have played combined (probably played over 20 or so others).......I think the OP is correct in that the MMOs now are definitely just made to make money......It looks to me like Warhammer just tried to take what was successful in 2 other games and try to make their millions of it (DAoc's RVR and WoW's battlegrounds).........

I stand alone!

I did that a while back, i still apply for Beta, but it seems i download and remove just as quick or quicker.
I do agree with OP in more ways than one.
To may games now that are free to play and that they should be for one simple reason. But it also makes it hard for the ones that are trying to make a HARD worthwhile game because now nobody wants to pay for it.

On top of not wanting to pay it has to be massively easy to get to end game or it's down the toilet as well.
A game made like Everquest now would fail so bad it would smoke going backwards through it's own doors. Why? because it would be to hard and to long to play. Nobody want to sink 5+ years into a game anymore or make friends it's all about me and end game and how fast we get there then complain about how boring it is. Not enough content Vs to much content.

Still i vote for the OP and think it's time for something new.

Have a Great day and OP have an awesome life there is a hugh world to discover.  don't be like me and say i will do that later,  Later may never come.

Then again, people who frequent this site enough to post and have a few on MMO's in general were probably playing before WoW.

I have to agree with one of the first replies though, WoW was huge and it was aimed dead center at casual gamers. A lot of people playing WoW are really into a game for the first time, not just the young kids but a lot of older folk. Everyone else wants to get some of those players, and coming out with a quest system, interface, classes, and even lore similar to it with slightly better graphics and a tweak or two will rake in the cash.

I do have a serious question though, you said Darkfall will be the next Shadowbane. I'll admit ignorance about the fate of Shadowbane, and I have been looking at Darkfall with some interest. I don't want to hear it flamed to hell and back, but I do want to know why you think it will fail, or at least not do as well as a lot of folks say.

Good, sad, and unfortunately true post.

My guess, he wasn't flamed because he's posted over 10,000 times. I don't know of many others that've posted that much.

You are not the only one man, As of last month I quit all mmorpg games after I could not find anyone that actually is fun. (Outside of Guild wars with its good storyline but guild wars is NOT an mmorpg so.yeah).

Basically I am saving up to buy myself a motorcycle now. Currently doing my MSC (motorcycle safety course) Going to make my new hobby to ride, I will probably give all my mmo accounts to friends that iv met on this forum or something.

I totally agree with you OP.  The last MMO I can remember having fun in is Final Fantasy XI and that was 3 years ago.  I've played literally everything (free and P2P) since then and it's been disappointment after disappointment.  Maybe I'm just burned out on MMO's, I think I'm going to buy a 360 since it's really cheap now and just stick to single player games.

WAR is a good game, but I just don't feel like playing anymore.  It's weird, I got to level 10 and just said, I'm bored and Logged off.  This sucks.

PS.  If you really like meeting people and partying instead of always playing solo, I recommend Final Fantasy XI.  The only problem is it takes a huge commitment to get anywhere in the game, but with the new features added recently it's never been easier to level up.

Does FFXI still have its unrelentingly unforgiving death penalty?

I played a Samurai up to 75 (O-hat, sunglasses, the works) but after being deleveled back to 74 (multiple times) and spending literally days trying to get the level back, I had enough.

This was uhhhh close to 2, maybe 3 years ago mind you.

Oh but to stay on topic (im bad at this) I believe MMO's are cursed from the beginning by the way marketing systems are based around them.

These days every (smart) CEO wants research, research, research. Gather up that secondary data, forumlate some skewed statistical charts and find out how to SQUEEEEZE the most money out of whatever it is that is planning on being funded. (Noone wants to fund a primary research unless its absolutely necessary, the problem with this is so many of these MMO-development companies use research that was funded by other companies that has way less relevance to what they are trying to accomplish than they realize).

Basically what im saying is that until there is some sort of breakthough marketing scheme that allows MMO's to be developed for cheaper, faster, and with less risk, we are going to keep seeing crappy MMO's till the end of time.

If Shadowbane had been coded better that game would have been the best MMO ever(in my eyes). There has not been a game that matches the amunt of unique characters you can play. From classes, to disciplines, to skill/weapon training, up to this day people come up with new viable builds. If not for the lag/crashes, huge banes and conquering guilds was awesome.

 Visit this website: Straybulletgames.com

It's from many of the creators of Shadowbane, they are using middleware and have learned a lot from SB. There are so many great things to take from Shadowbane it's hard not to at least give it some thought.

I am full time game player but haven't play mmo for a couple months. Because it bored me fast.  Login the game become a job to grind for better drop, grind for gold to buy some junks, group to get faster exp or better weapon drop or quest item etc. It could be fun sometimes if the game itself is fun enough, otherwise, the game lose entertainment essence but just there for you to killing time.

it is a way to save your money to play mmo because it cost very much if you buy most of just relesed single game, and even more money if you play not only PC games but XBOX or PS3.

But cheap quality mmo or free to play mmo not any longer to provide you with entertainment but they just want to make money, So, I am back to single game and if there is really one good mmo then I will try as well.

I think a good number of people who were once totally into the mmorpg games are leaving. Because the industry has not given us anything new or anything that looks inspired at all in the last few years. Things are generally a EQ clone or a Lineage clone...with your once in a while Diablo clones like Dungeon Runners and Hellgate...

$oE , destroying MMO since 1999.

9/20/08 3:44:38 AM#44

I sort of agree. MMO need enough chatter or they fail fast.

Although I detest vent, I see MMO as a giant chat box first and foremost.

If no chatting takes place, if the UI doesn't support a lot of channels or if everyone plays the game as a single player game, I'm not playing it. Sadly, WAR is like that.

And that's a step back in MMO design, not a step forward.

The last years I'd never played a MMO longer than a couple weeks. But I'll have the problem that everything feels same and lack of joy. Seems like this is common among those who played MMOs before WoW/EQ2.

EVE is the only game I can think of breaking free from the clones.

And I'd hope Earthrise, Darkfall and Fallen Earth might give me the thrill back in MMOs.

I honestly have not been able to get into another MMO like I was Pre-CU SWG.  It was the only MMO I have ever played that felt like a WORLD.

All the other MMOs feel like a singleplayer RPG.  It feels so fake, so restrictive, so repetitive.

I think Darkfall at least offers something quite different.  Now whether it delivers on the promise is yet to be seen, but it does promise something unique in the market today.

Still, Pre-CU SWG, with all of its bugs and changes, was the only game I ever played that made me feel like I was actually a character in a vast world, trying to carve out a life.  When a game captures that, to me, it is worth paying to play.

AoC, WoW, WAR, PotBS, Vanguard, and all the others I have played come nowhere near capturing the immersion that Pre-CU SWG did, despite all of the issues it suffered from.

Tecmo Bowl.

My opinion is that a lot of long term mmo gamers are just over exposed to mmo's as a whole. To play 40+ mmo's in a 10 year span is about 90 days average spent per game.

Maybe its to many mmo's on the market, maybe its the hype machine that makes players hop from game to game so fast. But ill say it again, in my opinion players that burn though that many mmo's are over exposed.

I think a gamer of any genre playing that many of the same type of titles will hit burnout, and only a break away from the genre for a while will let them see games with fresh eyes again.

I'm enjoying EQ2, and EVE again after a 2 year walk away from MMO's. Its made a big difference in my view of mmo's.

Not only that, as most of us hardcore who art seeking a near perfect MMO with real RPG (unlike World of Whinecraft /cough /cough /spit) and most other sucky sucky not worth a dollar$ MMO had seriously damages it customers base of trust.

If any MMO todate releases game without beta test is a no purchase from most of us. Sorry but it true that we had lost trust in the hype factor likewise.

Spore was hypes great... for a few minutes... thankfully.. it.. not.. a.. MMO!. EA can kiss my butt with limit installation which meant that when you purchase a game with limit installation is not yours to buy but rents.

Youve got WoW to blame for the crappy MMOGs nowadays, apart from the few oddball MMOGs who try something different and succed (EVE,etc.) you will find a ton of WoW-style gameplay MMOGs with different themes.

SWG was a great exemple of a good game,if they would have just fired the guys in charge of patch fixes (pre CU/NGE),it would be another succesfull game ,instead they kept their dumb devs and we kept getting nerfs instead of fixes.

Basicly nowadays, games arent made by GAMERS,they are made by fat guys who like to stuff their butt full of cash, they try the same recipe wich worked for WoW and they fail ... and they fail again to realise why they fail. Because people wont realy want to eat the same chocolate bar that has a different wrapping from 100 different people, they will prefer to stick to the original.
