Stargate Worlds has all of that. :-) Its a very story centered MMO. The way its been explained to us is that there will be type A quests and that these A quests will take you through the main storyline of the game and also be one of the ways in which your character can reache the level cap. There will also be type B quests that will take you through another story thats more about your race and its background, motivations, and whatever struggle their going through. Its also worth mentioning that the level cap in SGW is 50 and that every level will have atleast one type A quest and several type B quests. As well the proposed PvP content that will be part of their first big content push after launch will include story driven PvP involving the Jaffa civil war. The combat system in SGW is sort of a third person shooter / RPG hybrid there will be specials to use but the combat is mainly about finding the best cover using the right specials and out flanking and out manuevering the enemy. This combat system combined with dynamic AI that changes postions and cover depending on your actions and its personality will make each battle different. In SGW there are guilds like any other MMO except they are called commands. Besides that there is also the normal temporary group mechanic called squads where you see someone send them a group invite they accept you do some content and then the group disbands. However there are also teams which are basically permanent groups or mini guilds I guess you could say. These teams will be ro ughly 4 or 5 members and are meant to emulate the close relationship that SG-1 had in the series. As for graphics no its not Crysis and no its not Age of Conan, which is beautiful by the way. Stargate world's approach to graphics is kind of realistic but stylized. Actually stylized its not going to be disproportiant and ridiculus looking like WoW sometimes can be. SGW balance gameplay and graphics in terms of importance. I think this video shows it off quite nicely : http://www.gametrailers.com/player/39207.html

Greetings,
When you talk about graphics, there are two kinds of them: the art style (attractiveness and perfectess of the characters) and the effects (bloom/glow/bump map). Although others have said Age of Conan is probably the best graphic game, I'm thinking of something different. To me, all western games (Wow, Guild Wars, Aoc) have great effects and made the environment well. But the art design is uninteresting, if not ugly. Just look at the potato effects of Wow, the unproportionate body of GW, and the man-looking faces of Aoc, and you would know what I am talking about.
However, the game has one major flaw.No variety. From weapon, to armor, to characters, to class, to environment, much things look similar. But I think you can look past that. The music of the game is composed by Howard Shore, who composed OST for Lord of the Rings.

Before I say anything else, xxxxiangxxxx is awesome. That is easily one of the most detailed and informative posts I've seen on here in a while. The analysis of art versus effects was great and the pictures included to illustrate your point were equally superb. Aion was one of the games people have been pointing to frequently throughout this thread and I'm fairly sure I'll try it just to see what it looks like although the gameplay itself also appears to be interesting. I'll be honest I didn't know Lineage II looked that good for an older game, its impressive. Likewise I'd like to thank the poster two above who took the time to talk about Stargate Worlds and throw up the gameplay trailer. The graphics aren't crazy, but as a Stargate fan I can appreciate the feel of the universe they give off. Maybe that will be my main game, but graphically it dosen't quite live up to Aion or AoC which was also highly recommended here. Definitely thanks to all the great posts here, and also to those posters who kept me firmly planted in reality with their fanboy evangelism without really reading my initial post. Yes, Darkfall looks cool and I'm interested in it, but graphically Its yet to blow me away. Especially that video, god that was ugly. But the screenshots look pretty good, so I'll wait for beta. Again, thanks community, and another shout out to xxxxiangxxxx for being a cool Korean gamer. |

I think Age of Conan wins for the 'wow' factor, but because it has no style I think it will not age very well. In terms of style I would say TCOS looks very cool style wise, reminds me of fable a lot, and classic european fantasy. Although it is not exactly one of those games that makes you go 'wow' when you see the graphics, it just looks like it fits with the world, not distracting to the gameplay, its just there if that makes sense. After looking at some AION screens and videos its looks like every other korean game, I know it isnt a Korean game but it does look like them. So I personally would not rate it particually high because I really can't stand the style of that art. It is obviously graphically superior but its very reminiscent of anime in my eyes; which I have never been a fan of. |
