http://pc.ign.com/articles/910/910963p1.html "September 17, 2008 - While it hasn't been officially announced yet, there's wide speculation that BioWare, the famed developer of many single-player role-playing games, is working on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic universe. EA CEO John Riccitello confirmed as much at E3, but there had been no shortage of whispers and rumors prior to that. If you're not familiar with the KOTOR universe, it's set thousands of years before the events seen in the Star Wars movies. This is basically the ancient history of Star Wars, but it still features Jedi Knights, Sith Lords, and lightsabers. We're huge fans of the first two KOTOR games, which were single-player role-playing games. So we decided to put together a list of the 10 things that we'd like to see in a KOTOR MMO." All I can say is, please let it be real.
That said, I disagree with the list on several points. Like everyone being a Jedi. Part of the point of an old republic setting is that there were a lot of Jedi (and Sith). If non-Jedi/Sith are just as tough, then what is so special about becoming a Jedi? And no starship combat, that was one of the more annoying bits of the KOTOR games. Maybe ship upgrading, stuff like that (like say Elite or I presume, EVE), but not simplistic, whack the mole type like in the KOTOR games http://my.lotro.com/character/landroval/galadthryth/ - Lord of the Rings Online Character |

I totally agree with all of that list except for point 7 and 2. Screw 'spore' and Revan doesn't have to be in the game at all, just the Star Wars Universe setting is enough if well done. If Space combat is in it [which it damn well should be] than I'm sure we're going to get something much better than the cop-out 'bonus game' that was the turret space combat in KOTOR - the only really weak part of that game. ![]() Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? I really hope even if it's only for you that it is gonna be Kotor Online, you seem to have put all hope on it, seeing how many times you bring us news/rumors and such about it.

WTF? Bastilla didn't make the list? That list sucks. |

They lost me at: "Yes, Jedi Knights are cool and all, and they have nifty powers and abilities, but if everyone is a Jedi, it loses all meaning. Star Wars Galaxies is a textbook example of this, as it suffers from an overabundance of Jedi. However, BioWare should give the other classes (whatever they may be) a way to compete with Jedi that still maintains the integrity of the setting. Plus, it should be fun playing a bounty hunter, a scoundrel of a smuggler, or even a laser-rifle wielding princess. It might even be cool to be a droid. HK-47, anyone?" Limited imagination concerning force sensitive races. They were so insightful and creative until this. "The public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius." |

You're right. We'll just forget about stupid races like Mandalorians. And if the game wants to succeed past one or two months of "Gee, I'm a Jedi/Sith" novelty before the subscriber becomes bored and leaves, they will have as many races and professions as possible. If I had my way, all the Jedi and Sith would be NPCs and dev controlled only. Funcom needs to change the /petition command into a general nano called "Summon Personal Jester" I keep hearing about this cloud computing thing and I bet that's where FC is putting the grahics engine. Right now they're investing in the weather balloon technology to get all the bits of code up there. Helium is expensive so it might take awhile. |

Of course Jedi and Sith need to be IN the game, but if they are classes, then EVERYONE will be one. Hrm, I don't want to use a glowing lightsaber, I want a small dagger or a pistol? I don't think so. |

I dont want to be a Jedi ...... not everyone wants to be a Jedi or have one... Jedi are what killed SWG we can do without that here also.... For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG) http://www.fragglerockforever.com/swg/antiTCGloot.gif |

great article. Although the spore part scares me lol. I can just see it now. Thousands of the most warped looking critters running around ______________________________ In memory of Sir Ladyflower Ironforge- Laura "Taera" Genender 1986-2008 R.I.P. |

I do not understand how anyone could want the creatures from Spore in KOTOR. Not only are 99% of all creatures horrible, they're also cartoony and their looks don't fit into a KOTOR universe at all; just look the picture... |

Yeah, I agree with everything on that list except for the spore part. Please no. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

I may have read it wrong, but I don't think they literally meant that you'd be able to create any random wacky species that you want. In any case, most of those goals seem plausible, except perhaps for number 10, in light of Bioware's apparent philosophy (www.1up.com/do/newsStory) for this game:

SOLUTION: Players can control Jedi, but cannot control Master Jedi, as those are reserved for bad ass NPCS :) there, done, end of story etc.

I have a better idea. You can have a Jedi, but your lightsaber will ACTUALLY be a black flashlight with a long colored plastic tube attached to it.
