i cant explain it...but fighting other players in AoC *feels* better than any other MMO ive ever played....just a simple left or right slash feels good....it feels like im hitting something...its hard to explain. im playing WaR right now and the combat just lacks that feeling of hitting...it just doesnt feel like my 2nd hander is ripping apart that mage...it just doesnt. Funcom finish the rest of your game, after my free month of WaR is up ill give you another shot.
p.s: You know i feel by the start of next year around that time...AoC will be better than WaR. Right now i dont they are even close, but AoC has just a different feeling that other games just lack

Originally posted by kazson Lets be honest, FC got a few things right. The combat in AoC is fun, I found the combat viceral, as it s/b in the Hyborian world. The graphics...even haters have to admit are next-gen (should your rig be able to handle them). My iopinion is the deeper MMO game is missing. Should FC suddenly realize priorities and fill out the 90% of MMO game they are missing, it's a win. Problem is, they don't have all the time in the world as they seem to think based on their efforts so far. "nerf rock, paper is working as intended." - Scissors. |

Yeah i can understand. I felt the same, like a little girl in land of barbie dolls. OH! the excitement at first. But don't worry once all the combat slash and hack amazement wears off you will realize that other MMOS like WAR, LOTR, EQ2 and even VSOH has 100 times more content and less frustrated game experience to offer. Internet makes you Stupid!! |

what level are you?
just remember once you get to level 80. the game even worse. Have you even noticed that is no such thing as a block in this game? or parry? The combat is shallower than the kiddy pool. I could go on, but it might shatter your world. |

i dont see how block or parry have anything to do with anything? all the MMO's ive played since EQ1 blocks and parrys are just dice rolls in the background to help migate dmg....that has nothing to due with the *feeling* of combat i think you are talking about mechanics...which im not going to agrue the game needs lots of work, which is why ill for sure give them another chance if or when i get bored of WaR.

Honestly the combat was fine when it was limited to 1-2 pre-combo attacks. Once you hit 4 pre-combo attacks things start to slow down significantly. Most of it is swing at air, and making use of the double tap buffs. Jousting into your opponents to unload a strong combo or crowd control. Considering the impact of gear on white damage, they should lower combos back to 1-2 swings and make the preload duration just a few seconds rather than the 5-6 seconds between swings that it is currently. This would help to eliminate the jousting nonsense that you get currently. I won't even start on the one-shot business, as I assume down the road that will be fixed on live. Now you have to admit, the caster combat system is exactly like every other system before it. I really hoped the would implement some of the ideas for the melee system into the caster system. I believe they dropped the ball for casters, as they are very bland.
edit: I think what he meant was that there is no parry or block move, so you can avoid attacks as in Oblivion. The active blocking system had potential then that was gutted. It would be easy just to turn off AoE effects while it was up, and put them on a cooldown so it wasn't so overpowered for turtling defense. An interesting twist to combat would be to "see" the telegraph of the attacks coming, and be able to respond with a counter attack allowing you to block/parry the blows. |

this lvl 69 ranger plucked me on my horse, than killed me, im a 58 assasin. so i snuck but he mustve followed me with high perception...i walked around a corner, called my horse and getting on he started again...he got 2 hits off and i fell to the floor from my horse. i got up and imm. lethargy and atrophied him than a nice 3 shot combo..less than half his health left, i can do it!! he started runnin from me...im swinging, he pops a pot. he got off a trap.. and picked me off. i was soo close. im sure that lowbie killer sweated it out...he almost died from 11 level lower than him. anyways, im enjoying the combat as well. as far as 3 hit combos, you've got time to strafe around them and get them off nicely. the combat is unlike any other mmo out there, very cool and skill based at least with melee. its a fine ride to 80. -I will subtlety invade your psyche- |

Compare AoC's action online combat with this mmo's combat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUo4Ej5pOQw&feature=related then you quickly realize that AoC's combat is quite similar to WoW's, but simply require a bit more keys to press until you see that flashy combo/feat. |

being a guy that beta tested aoc for a long long time, i understand, I felt the same thing when I played it. the feleing goes down with time tho. pretty graphics and a more interactive combat are great things, but not enough to sustain a game like this on the top. The graphics and sound are just noveltry factors, that time wears down. The graphics were jaw breaking for me when i startee beta, and when i played the released game the graphics were just ....good. in 6 months i'll think the graphs are ok and in 1 year the graphs will not even be a subject in my mind even when playing the game. |

I wouldnt hold my breath waiting on Funcom fo finish this game. Seems the stock price it trying to fall faster than the subscription numbers. They should have waited and released in Jan with a game that was more than half finished. |

True. Either Funcom patches MMO content or SOE graphics. Two companies who dont seem to realize that they are sitting on a winner :P
Here are a few examples of what VG was allready capable of in beta and got lost in the rushed launch. http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/gallery/files/1/FallenLands_1600_12772_original.jpg http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/gallery/files/1/lake_1600_270440.jpg http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/gallery/files/1/4/beta0a16wm.jpg |

Just because they do not have what you expect from others games directly, does not mean there is not an equivalent, or different system. There is the shield system, and the double tap dodging system, as well as a high emphasis on real world position of your toon. A block stat and parry stat are not needed, it’s just a different system.
It’s ok if its not your thing.

Just renewed my sub and yes, i found the combat really fun as well. But i still miss Carrots. All the fighting seems abit pointless tbh. You lvl up, yea great - and so what? The talents really needs oomph. You might feel a slightly differense over 5 lvls but 1 lvl is just, " huh, i lvl up..hmm, bum bum" The game offers way to few perks. Items should make a bigger difference and the stats more translucent. Talents should have way more oomph. I should look at the tree and pin point a rute with 5-7 perks, which all would make noticeable difference in gameplay. |

AoC's combat is just a slower version of WoW's with more buttons to push for each move you do. Took me 2 weeks to slow my speed down to the speed the game would let me go in combat ( kept missing combos by being 4-6 buttons ahead of the game). |

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I found AoC's combat to be quite boring to tell you the truth. I couldn't stand it. They tried to mesh an action style control scheme with a combat queue and it just didn't work. Now before you call me a hater or what not, this was actually one of my biggest gripes with the game, that and all the instancing, which was one of many reasons why I didn't even have to leave tortage to know the game wasn't for me. Which in turn is why I never even experienced half the stuff everyone complains about this game lol. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

I had a great time dishing out combo's with my Guardian in PvE, sadly the multiple key combo's are so frustrating versus fast moving players in pvp. But as a whole it felt GOOD. Just like you say. And mostly because of solid animations, a direct feel and accompanying sound effects. Like many others state; I wish FunCom had put as much time and effort into content, gameplay and immersion enhancing features as they have put in animations and graphics. Damn shame they didn't or perphaps, couldn't.

be good if SOE buy out this game and added what it was missing. |
