I do not have any illusions that Warhammer will topple WoW, but I think they've done a lot of things right.
Blizzard don't even have servers actually in Australia, but just fobbed off the Oceanic community with US servers labeled 'Oceanic'. |

WAR is alright, from a lot of MMO's I have played I have enjoyed it a lot more then most. but RvR is not really my cup of tea its not going to kill WoW. because only WoW will kill WoW |

lol...this thread is funny. WoW could lose 2/3 of its entire customer base and it would still be a bigger success than WAR. I preordered WAR and I'm planning on playing it but it's not going to come close to making Blizzard nervous. |

Blizzard is nervous as hell :p Even if they only lose 1/'4 of their playerbase they will feel it. Did you know that if you are subbed to WoW and cancel and give as reason WAR, you will get a beta invite for WOTLK ? They are advertising like crazy too now just before WAR's launch. WoW WILL be hurt, we just dont know how bad yet :p

You cant kill that that does not bleed. Wrath is 2 months away the small dip is players going to WAR will be put right on Nov 13th. And I expect blizzard to break the previous record of 2.4million units sold in 24 hours (US+EU).

Just because WAR will have Asian servers won't make it an immediate success in Asia. Tastes in Asia are different than NA. WoW's strength was it balanced the two. I don't know if WAR does or not. However, I don't think WAR needs to have the largest world wide subscription numbers to take the title as #1 MMO. For the longest time, Lineage was the #1 world wide, but EQ was considered king on MMOs. Why? Because it had the largest NA sub numbers., and that's where the profit margins are. If I had to place a bet, I would say that WAR will get the #1 NA spot from WoW, but who knows? It is all just speculation right now. |

Seriously people, i don't know where this mmo a has to kill mmo b...stop being morons, people will chose what they like and not everyone loves to pvp and from alot of topics i have read people will be playing both so really wow won't be losing that many subs, we will see after a month where warhammer is, alot of people cancel from mmo's before the 30 days are up, but i think they'll have a couple million players. Yeah Blizz just opened up Latino servers and Russian, and with their new activision merger prolly would be able to open up more then that in other countries. -shrug- Oh and blizzard released part of the Burning crusade content in an early patch too, so i'm not sure they are just doing the same with wrath just because of warhammer. Stop the fanboyism for either game. It is in our MUTUAL interest that WAR will be a solid contender to WoW's (almost) monopoly. The better the competition the more both developers will try to improve their products. It is not in the mmo player community's interest to wish for other games to fail. |

WAR may have the shortest life span in the history of MMORPG's. Instant fun and hollow gameplay is mostly accompanied with instant boredom. Status of servers in EU today (13:05): One high faction - 8 medium and 40+ low population. We'll see in 8 weeks time... |

You played an entirely different WAR then I did I guess. If something will dent between the two then my guess is it will be WOTLK since by then the novelty wears off for most of the people. But then again I bet WAR will be outdoing the rest in the field which will be a nice achievement. Anywho nice trolling and hope you'll enjoy your WAR, don't really feel sad on loosing people like you to a game I won't play :p |

Originally posted by CyberWiz WOW was localised for Russia last month available on the 6th of August, 2008. On that date, European players will be able to purchase a version of the game and its expansion, The Burning Crusade, fully localised for Russia, and begin playing on dedicated realms with the benefit of a Russian-language customer-support team. This will be the fifth European-language version of World of Warcraft, complementing the existing English, French, German, and Spanish versions.
Personally, I like both games I'm buying the CE for both WAR and WOTLK |

The other thing to remember is that you can't judge the effect of WAR against WoW for at least two months anyway as most WoW players going across will still be subbed to WoW whilst testing the water in WAR and making their decision at the end of their first month or two in there. I have no worries for WoW, my worries lay with the smaller niche MMO's that are just about hanging on to their subs and will lose more to WAR including those players that were taking a break from WoW whilst waiting for WAR release. I think it will have far more impact on them than it ever will on WoW. As for offering Beta keys to leavers, it isn't panic, it is good business sense. We have all seen it with almost any company you deal with, as soon as you threaten to leave and join the competition they will offer you incentives to stay, and MMO's are no different. It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays. |

Warhammer is going to sell a crazy amount of copies. With WoW being practically the only game on the block for 4 years, people are craving something new. Just look at Conan. Even with bad word of mouth coming out before launch it still closed in on a million very quickly. People want something new and warhammer is the newest game to come out.
Everyone focuses on how new and "different" warhammer is, which I disagree with. Outside of the public quests and world pvp, it is mostly been there, done that. People who are bored with WoW are going to blow through this game right to level 40. I am concerned, because endgame looks to be very small and repetative. No I have not been there, but that is my initial impression. That is why I think people who got burned out on WoW will just get burned out again in Warhammer, but even quicker. The PvP might be the next best thing since sliced bread, but the PvE is pretty boring. Variety keeps people subbed.
Someone above mentioned that it is in out best interest to have another successful game on the market and I couldn't agree more with that statement. Not for the reasons Paul Barnet stated in his blog, but for reasons similiar enough. In the end I think warhammer will average out to be a good game with about 10-20% of wows current subs, but I think most of those are going to come from people who are already gone from WoW. On top of that are people who will carry subs to both games, which everyone seems to think is impossible. This is my current thoughts for both games in 1 year. 4.5 million US/EU current subs, but that doesn't include how ever many that quit. I suspect the overall total subscribers for WoW+Warhammer will be more that WoW has right now.
