I will most likely get flamed but oh well.
Anyone else let down about the class choice, I mean mythic boasts about 20 classes but the classes are just mirrors of eachother with very little to distinguish themselves. Most have the same abilities just named something else. Kind of lame to me although I do enjoy WAR and plan on buying it. |

I do have a letdown of WAR, as much as I love it, and it's the armor! Destruction seems to have better looking armor *cough* Chosen *cough*. And Swordmasters, from what I hear, pwn but they wear dresses so I will never play them. |

| To Crybabies: Uhm...if a game pisses you off, don't play it - duh. |

The only good dwarf is a dead dwarf, but until people start playing them we can`t make that happen. |
I noticed this when I started playing a few Order characters in open beta and initially i was feeling somewhat let down by it myself. After playing a few of the classes, the only real 'pair' that bothered me in how similar they appeared was the pairing of the Bright Wizard and Sorceress. While all of the other classes are distinguishable in terms of playing them at the core, the two pure casters are a little too close for comfort. The only real difference I experienced between the pairing was that Bright Wizards tended to do well damage wise in scenarios, while the sorceress was strangely lacking in scenario damage. The sorcerer I played also seemed to do less damage overall than the bright wizard I played, but it didn't change the 'feel' of the two classes. If nothing else, the upside to these two being so similar is both sides have access to a high damage caster. Overall, what first felt like a possible longevity issue isn't really much to worry about, especially considering that even if every class mirrored one another on each side exactly, there would still be ten available classes in the game which is average for most mmos at launch.

Levels 1-10 of the classes are not very differentiated. That's because these levels are getting you the core abilities that define your archetype: Tank, Ranged DPS, Melee DPS, Healer. There are some variations based on class flavor, like the Squig Herder vs. the Witch Hunter. But all in all, this is core mechanics. Without those archetype-defining skills in place, there would be a risk of particular classes becoming unwanted in later stages of the game. Levels 10-20 flesh out your class more. You start getting crowd control and other specialized core skills. Levels 20+ are where the classes differentiate. Especially after 25. Even though the Bright Wizard and Sorcerer may be mirrors of each other, past level 25 they are VERY different classes. However, they can both serve the ranged DPS role quite well because they both have the core skills that define that archetype. This was a very smart way for Mythic to do things. Yes, it does mean that classes feel a bit generic early on. But that's because they are. :) It certainly doesn't stay that way, and nobody will ever be able to complain that their class is unwanted. |

SCIENCE PROVES CAPS LOCK CAN CURE CANCER. |

Take it from me, the swordmasters right now compared to the rest of the tanks are in the lower bracket when it comes to balance. And in a sense of the OPs question, I do and I don't. It has quite simply the "base" classes that most MMOs go with today; the melee healer, ranged healer, ranged missile dps, ranged magic dps, melee DPS, the damage sponge, the stealthies, pet classes, DoT classes, etc. Nothing really new that I've seen when it's come to basic ideas of how classes function. I would have absolutely LOVED to see a glass cannon type of character (melee DPS to the extreme), because those types of classes are the ones that I love, but the closest there seems to be is the marauder. Overall though I like them because they all function, for the most part, very well. I've been having fun with more then half the classes, which is saying a lot for me because usually I only end up liking 2 out of 10 in class based games. Balance issues are there but not extreme to the point where a class is not worth playing (say the swordmaster which I already mentioned or the shadow warrior or the marauder or the engineer). Chances are I'm going to end up playing many classes which is very odd to me, and more or less have a Shadow Warrior or Witch Hunter as a main. |

You are not alone. But think of the classes more as flavours than different. You have offensive casters with stationary pets, caster healers, melee healers, stealth melee dps, stand and bang melee dps, stance dance tanks and straight up tanks. If you had access to closed beta and spent time at 40, speced for similar roles... the mirrors match up pretty much 1:1. Differences come from racial tactics. I understand why but in my opinion limiting a class to a single race is well limiting. Say I like the white lion but not elves... too bad. This is one thing I really like about EQ2, not limits. Want to be an ogre coercer... go nuts. Makes finding a toon you can connect with much less of an obstacle. I like melee classes but in WAR after taking away the classes/races that don't do it for me I'm left with... warrior priest, disciple, ironbreaker and white lion. Guess I'm rolling Order ;) Oh and WL be my last alt because I need the option to disable my helm working before go down that road :p |
