LoL there still alot of people playing AoC just becuse you left dosnt mean every one did. I have not bashed WAR and am not going to start now, but AoC is fine and will be around for a long time. sorry for not buying into your BS and hope people can make up there own minds about what they think a good game is. |

With 20k subs, if that. Anarchy Online has been around 7+ years and have roughly 20k subs (including fr00bs ). SO I guess if that counts as "success" to you, enjoy it. 'Cause as I said, that's exactly where AoC is going. |

What the hell are you talking about? You drunk?
WAR beta is one of the most stable betas ever. I admit the combat is somewhat not like a 4 year old polished MMO but for a beta I am impressed and that is why I will be playing WAR.
This is the "worst" state of the game, the beta. Imagine WAR when patched up after a year or two in polished state.
AOC is btw nothing but a joke. The instancing just drives me crazy. GFX awesome, gameplay ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ |

Hey if FC can replace regular mmo combat with console controller combat and make you think its revolutionary your judgments/criticisms arent really to be trusted. |

Originally posted by dhayes68 I prefer to call it evolutionary. It is a change to the mind numbingly slow mo combat of games like WAR, WoW, EQ2, Vanguard. I also feel that the fact no Elves exists in AoC helps me appreciate the more realistic view of a Fantasy world. This is why LOTRO falls flat. You have this wonderful Fantasy setting, yet it is trying to go realistic thanks to Tolkien's low magic, and based on their scrips, I doubt it is working. Now, if Bioware releases its cool combat systems from the Neverwinter/Baldurs Gate series into an MMO, or even the Mass Effect combat, then we could see more changes, and maybe MMO's will not become stale. But, as long as players accept the status quo, this genre is going to stagnate. Funcom may have screwed up AoC, but if anything, they at least tried to make a few changes and stray from the norm of DIKU based MMO's. Thanks for that at least. |

The quote was from a topic on our official forums and it was a question on a type of character transfer system. I think someone might have overlooked the original posters question.

Honestly Famine... AoC has been stagnant with stuff... lots of problems, but has the greater potential of all the games that are out there, including WAR.
But if AoC doesn't buck up and get busy, I am afraid its fate will be similiar to Vanguard...
Check out my blog on WAR. http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/WolfClaws/092008/2599_WAR-Good-God-Yall Oh and this is Hawke :P |

Why do you think your remaining subscribers want a character transfer system? The quote is not taken out of context. They want to transfer because people are playing on dead servers. The players know it, and you know it, you just can't publicly admit it because it would only further prove what the rest of us already know. There are population problems and transfer will be needed in order to stop the bleeding. People are more likely to cancel if they think the server they are on is lacking population. Funcom is going to have to swallow its pride and do the mergers if AoC is to survive as a viable MMO in the current market. The problem is that you guys are still learning humility, which is evident by interviews with Erling. I know Jason "Athelan" Stone agrees that Funcom has failed at prioritizing, he has said it himself now that he is no longer with Funcom. I can go dig up the quote if you like. |

MMOCrunch.com is a an MMO blog website that I recently been helping by adding writing along with Daedren, another blogger from MMORPG.com. Daedren wrote an article on there about AoC, to which Jason Stone responded commenting about WAR and AoC. In it he says.... "I hate to say “I told you so” but these aspects of meaningful PvP advancement, reward, and support were key aspects I championed while working on AoC and were never truly given the necessary priority." You can find it HERE, if you scroll down at read the comment section. |

Hmm I feel the need to repeat myself.... AoC is NOT Guild Wars. There are instances yes but this game is not Guild Wars by any means. If a lot of people are in a zone, the game will make a copy to keep the load down. I can at any rez point switch to the other version of the zone if I have to group with someone. EQ2 does the same thing since it launched in 2004. Some people make it sound like you leave town and *poof* the whole desert is just you. That's just not true. |

Nothing ruins immersion faster than overinstancing. This is incorrect. Anyone else can walk into the EXACT same tavern. Unless you speak of "Night Time" which is a solo storyline built for the player. Otherwise, I am where everyone else can go, so the "poof" the whole town disappears is incorrect. Guild Wars has the mechanic where once you leave town YOU own the zone. No one else can enter. The whole town can access the same Inn I am in. Just a little different for AoC.

Uh that is the whole point of the Night Quests. They said they wanted to avoid the problems that many newbie areas have of many new players competing for quest objectives. It's completely optional you can skip it if you don't want to do it, won't affect your later Destiny quests at all. Course you'll miss out on some nice quest rewards, but again it's your choice. The zone copies do not "suck" they were put in when earlier games had massive problems with too many people in one zone. I played EQ1 and when a new expansion came out you'd have so many people in the new areas that quite often the zone server would crash. Spawning a copy prevents this and allows the players to have a better performance when they are there. You really want 500 people in Khoseph? I don't, I want my fps to be greater than one.... Overinstancing is best shown by Guild Wars. EQ2 and AoC are not even close to GW for sheer amount of instancing. |

This is why companies have NDAs, so people don't compare a game in beta to a game that has been out for a while. I pre-ordered AoC, and played it when it came out, and it was pretty cool. The graphics were good, but imo they look like they have a plastic look, which I don't like. About the fun, it's pretty much exactly like any other mmo when you're leveling, and the huge gap where there were no quest, just completely ruined it. That, and the immensly imbalanced classes, and hude number of bugs. I would probably still be playing AoC had they released it *finished*. WAR on the other hand, is generic, but people like generic, as you can see by subscription numbers(WoW), I'll agree combat is slow, but it's nowhere near as annoying as pressing 1-2-3 to attack. About the lag in pvp, that's just your computer, so don't blame that on Mythic. The graphics are also set at low for beta, but it actually has good texture graphics, as well as pretty much all other graphical features, it's most likely you just don't like the art style. |

Oh, another reasonable post about AOC :) AOC isn't perfect, but I agree with everything you said. It's not like it's the only MMO i choose to play, but it's the only MMO i CAN play, because rest feels give me the feeling i only had when playing very old games on 386, 486 computers 10+ years ago :) And speaking of combat - like i said many times, "i'm not clicking anymore". AOCs combat at least feels like you have to think, do combos, blocks and stuff. It's not Devil may cry or something, but WO's "clicking" is a joke anyway. But some ppl actualy like diablo style of play. "Don't think - just click" so it's all up personal to taste. |
