What is WAR's target audience? What MMO customer base are they targeting? For example WoW? Obviously not LOTRO or DDO... Maybe EQ2? What is the games hook? What did it improve upon to make someone leave their current game? RVR perhaps... My concern is will that be enough to sustain it? Or, will this be too similar to other games that have been around longer and are more polished. Will the RVR make this just another niche title? From what I've read things that are not improved upon are graphics, combat, animations, PVE, no real new inovations except maybe public quests which some people seem to like while others dislike. So what exactly does this game offer that would take keep me away from my current games? Why is it better than anything else? |

Its targeting OLD SCHOOL PVP players. The people that acually enjoy PvP and want a whole other lvl of it. There hasnt been a good PVP MMO for a long ass time and its about time there was one. |

Not to mention the table top gamers who played countless hours and spent tons of cash buying Warhammer merch. |

The reasons why this game has grabbed me are. 1. It looks to be a grouping game 2. Its a PvP game 3. You can play a Goblin
Yeah you could play a goblin in Vanguard but there was just something missing from that game. |

Originally posted by Moroth Nothing. You'll want to stick with WOW. Actually, it is a lot more of the same, but that one difference you mentioned, the part about being designed around RVR, makes all the difference to the people who will enjoy the game. I'm on the fence myself, but will give it a go to see how it plays.

The way I see it, that's about right, its main focus is similar to WoW in that it wants to hook the "old school" fans who may have never even played an MMO in their lives... In this case, fans of the Warhammer PnP, along with people who have been following Mythic's MMO progress since Dark Age of Camelot. Personally, I've never played either, I've only just heard of both in the past couple of years. My main attraction could probably be most associated with WoW in that really the only interesting thing in the entire time I spent there was running the battlegrounds... And I absolutely hated PvP up to that point. What intrigued me about them is that you're no longer on your own, you're thrown into a raid group set up by the system and you have the whole team looking out for you so long as you support them. This was leagues ahead of my experiences in City of Heroes, where PvP was an afterthought that was never balanced for one on one fights, while so few cared about it that you couldn't get a team either, so it usually amounted to gank or be ganked. From what I hear, which is never really specific, it sounds like this is what would happen if you took Alterac Valley (pre reinforcement patch) and built an entire game around it. You have people engaging PvP with all the others, fighting side by side on the front lines, you have people sticking to PvE with the intent of supporting their army without actually fighting other players, and this just goes on forever. I actually like the fact that I'm no longer a generic peon errand boy, but instead I'm a generic soldier gone to war. Everyone has their own role and is highly encouraged to work as a group, rather than punk rogues and random clothie casters running off and doing their own thing, either succeeding as a result of being horribly overpowered or getting promptly stomped by an impending zerg rush. I'm no longer just alone, occupying server space with a bunch of other people. I want to be a part of something, fighting for my side. |

I agree you don't have to be innovative but you have to be better. My question is how will this be better. I can see RVR being fun but I don't know that I would keep paying for it after 30 days if it becomes reprtitive. There will need to be a variety of things done well to keep my interest. I can't see playing an MMO for just one thing but maybe I'm wrong. |

WoW has brought more than even imaginable to the MMoRPg crowd, it is unreal. (for instance: no loading screens pretty much at all, flying mounts, its talent tree and skill system, use of different types of energy, like mana, rage, and soon to be released the rune system.) The original game was released in 2004, it is now 2008 and no game has even come close. Until Now! :) Warhammer online will dominate, but another game im looking forward to is Darkfall. it will be completely different than any other game before. |

i am just wondering how long it will take before someone explains that nothing you mention here is actual something that WOW brought to the mmo scene first ! my bet is 1 hour |

Originally posted by Moroth RVR will be fun because of numerous features, for example keep sieging, guild standards/standard bearers, renown ranks/equipment/tactics/moral abilities, city levels/sieging.. Plus there will be PVE (Questing,Raiding,Dungeons,PQs) too and it will be embedded in some way or another into the RVR. Personally I like the setting, gfx and gameplay too. What more could I ask for? If you are not accustomed to eating kiwi, go slow at first. |
