Hopefully WAR is not a letdown. I'll probably still play WOTLK for PvE (unless WAR is just too good). It's going to be nice to leave behind the kiddies who think Arena is the quintessential skill-based online game.

War will take a few players from Wow surely but we are talking tops a half a million, it will be noticed but not a really big deal. Might thin out some PvP guilds however. I wouldnt worry for Wows health and even if WAR will sell good the first month they still have to keep all the players, other games have had a tough time keeping theirs (actually, almost all games). And WAR is not really targetting for the same players either, just check the game worlds of both games. Wows greatest threat is the unknown MMO that Blizzard told PC gamer that they are making at that will probably be a fe years in the future. And yes, we seen quite a few "Wow-Killers" before in forums, no one of them have ever been close yet. |

It's that time again folks. Another MMORPG is about to be released, and you can smell the excitement in the air. The screenshots look good, the videos look good, the features look good. We can start imagining ourselves exploring this new world, learning new abilties, meeting new people. I bet your stoked. There's a lot of buzz, previews seem positive, there's some nice reviews coming out of beta. An emphasis on PvP, man that's the novel twist we need for a MMORPG. Maybe you should book a few days off work to get a head start. What could possibly go wrong? Hell, you're feeling so good about this release, maybe you should speculate on the forums about how this will negatively impact World of Warcraft... because.. *SLAPS YOU ACROSS THE FACE* See here, I've got this collection of concrete bricks. I've etched into them the names of the MMORPGs that have caused this endless cycle of "oh I wonder how many are going to leave WoW for this game". With these bricks I shall smash you across your face until you start realizing that your game is not unique and beautiful, I've played the beta, and it's a boring pile of shit. The combat feels like I'm playing a turn based strategy game, via e-mail. The game itself is a soulless mess, no love has gone into creating the game, it feels like it's been outsourced to 5 different companies and been stitched together in an appauling mess of boredom. I can smell your disagreement from across the internet, but do you really think you're the first to be swooned over by a new game? You're living in a self-reinforced delusion. Here's a wakeup call: *Smashes the AGE OF CONAN brick into your face* Oh yeah you remember that one don't you? With the mature content, and the visceral PvP, the beautiful graphics, and the gameplay that blows WoW out of the water. The amount of threads I saw claiming AoC was gonna hurt WoW is directly proportional to the amount of pain your metaphorical face is suffering right now. *Smashes the HELLGATE LONDON brick into your face* *twice* I don't need to say anymore, except that... *Smashes the LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE brick into your face* Oh how can it fail... it's like WoW, only with much better lore... WoW will surely lose p... *Smashes the DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS ONLINE brick into your face. Dungeons and fucking dragons people. One big argument for WAR 'hurting' WoW seems to be based on IPs being superior to each other. Here's a newsflash, WAR, while being older than Warcraft, is now considerably less cooler than WoW, lore wise, IP wise, word-on-the-street-wise, Slashdot-wise, however the fuck you want to rate nerdy-coolness-wise. WAR has been left behind in the dust. *Stabs you repeatedly in the eye with the VANGUARD: SAGA OF HEROES brick.* You knew that one was coming. I've got the scars myself. The true successor to Everquest. You should have learned your lesson back then, when you realized that MMORPGs before they are released EVEN during betas are solely MARKETING CAMPAIGNS. "Oh but this time I really think WAR has something going for it I mean have you seen..." *SMASHES YOU WITH THE ARCHLORD BRICK UNTIL THERES ALMOST NOTHING LEFT OF YOUR NEAR-LIFELESS CARCASS* "You're just.... a .... Blizzard..... fan...........boy..............ack.... urgh...." *Breaks open your skull with the TABULA RASA brick* Shut the hell up. In the remote chance that they will somehow give WAR the kiss of life, probably by including a copy of WOTLK with it, and the game manages to turn out to be OK, which is what everyone always thinks about games after they've totally failed to be blown away by the dull beta, then we will play it. Yes imagine that. But if someone actually manages to make an MMORPG that is better than WoW, then there's no psychic bonds tying us to that game. I would be overjoyed to play something better than WoW, just like I would be overjoyed to find something more enjoyable than sex, which as you can probably tell from this rant hasn't happened for a while.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting... |

Honestly, I could really care less what "kills WoW" or what "decreases server populations in WoW" little kids talk about stuff like that imo. The ol' "my dad can beat up your dad" or something is what it sounds like. WoW was fun for me for a while but I've moved on. I wish more people could as well. Play what you want to play. I work for a living and have a decent job. If a new game comes out I try it, if I sucks I play something else. We all have our reasons of why we quit this game or play that game. Who gives a crap how games left in our wakes are doing? |

IMO WAR will get 600-700k initial subscribers...and will never see these large numbers again. |

WoW is 4 years old, maybe this expansion will keep their subs stable for a while. But the population will go down. It's the nature of MMOs. |

Even though your post is drowning in fanboi-ism it's a fun read and you're probably right. You're wrong on 1 point though, you seem to think Subscriber number=good MMO. That's not true, the fact that WoW is the must succesful MMO ever doesn't make it the best, it isn't |

You better shut up because you are insulting a lot of people. Tell that to Recant. Gotta love WoW fanboy nerdrage when people think his game is threatened. Hope he plays Alliance, I thought Horde was mature. To the OP, well, it'll affect WoW a little bit overall but if you're playing it you probably won't notice that much of a difference. Sure, maybe a guild or two will be gone, but there will still be millions of hamsters buying Rash of the Itch King. But WAR will be populated enough as well, so both games will be fine. |

I stopped playing Wow a month or two before AOC beta started. I played that game for 2 months or so and I have not played anything since. If WAR's OB gets me back into a game I'll buy it and play that. I am still in the air if I'll even buy the Wow Expansion.
I hope WAR does well even if I don't enjoy it. We need more games out there that are worth playing. |

This poll is hardly thought out. How about a category for the folks that do not play WoW (or hate wow for that matter) but plan on playing WAR?!?!!?!? What about us! Sheesh! The Adventures of Fat Gamer - http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/FatGamer |

I think both populations will increase. remember there is alot more people playing MMOs these days. I could easily see War with a population of 2 million and Wotlk having a 12 million people population. |

LOL Who cares? You didn't have an option in your poll for I hate WoW and wouldn't play it if it were free. That weak ass watered down Fisher Price MMO. It's a hand held adventure through mediocrity town. |

You know that both will fail and everyone will play this >click<. Anyhow, I will not be playing War, and left WoW a while ago. I really enjoyed WoW while I did play, as it was creative and unique in its way. From what I read, War seems to be another game with the same design. Call a hot dog whatever you wish, and put whatever toppings you want on it, it is still a hot dog. So... No, niether are of interest to me, bricks or not. That was a great rant! |
