"Femmes Fatales - The Power of the Feminine in the Art of MMO" |
Lum, dear, I have to say this is one of the smartest and funniest posts I have ever read on www.mmorpg.com forums. If there was an award for the most creative posting of the year this would surely win hands down. Thank you
Keri

1, Bad management 2. managements egos were/are out of control 3. Bad management Fungerer som det skal |

1. released unfinished game 2. very little to no communication 3. no realizing that they delivered an unfinished game, and lying how some things weren't even supposed to be in game,
it really sucks how Funcom went down, I had huge hopes for the game and was an avid fan for a long time. They shot themselves in the foot.... |

1. Crappy customer service, worst than SOE! Took them 4 days to get back to me and another week to fix the problem. 2. Small zones! If you're going to make every zone instanced, then make them a decent size like in EQ2. 3. Armor that looks like it's from Planet of the Apes. *makes chimp sounds Get your hands off me, you filty Ape err Barbarian!

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities. |
1) Incompetence 2) See reason 1 3) See reason 2 |

As a former fanboy who is close to quitting, I would say 1) insufficient high level content. 2) Terrible itemization 3) Poor incentives to group 4) Overuse of instancing 5) Buggy client. Worse now than at release, for me at least. I love the combat and graphics...but that's not enough.

1. False advertising 2. Carrot on a stick - leading players on with lies and false promises 3. Basic game elements are still broken when they should have been working at launch. I expect bugs in any mmo launch. Funcom literally knew the game wasn't finished and threw it together hoping no one would really notice. Boy were they wrong. In the how-to's of mmo business and game development, there will forever be a chapter devoted to the case study that is Funcom and Age of Conan. Believe me, it wil not be a flattering chapter. 1) Utter lack of progress on fixing major issues. Includes class / gameplay / equipment / technical issues. Very, very wide in scope, TBH, but it all fits under the same valid reason. FC hasn't rectified any of it since release. 2) Features listed on release box or pre-release hype not in-game or not working at all. 3) For a game that people like to say is graphically advanced and beautiful, everybody... and I mean **everybody**... looks the same. All thanks to only a handful of graphic sets used for equipment, most especially armor. That's my top 3, but I could easily add 1 more "Big One" "The Empire always strikes back!" - Grand Admiral Pallaeon |

2.Fixing Stuff that doesn't need to be Fixed and Ignoring stuff that Does.

They sure suckered me in. Now that I think back on it, the 3 months or so that I played is one of the longest stretches faith/hope I've ever had, believing/hoping that a bad product would eventually improve and even be really good. |

They even had gameplay and promo videos (but those things were never implemented) to bait us along. It baited me along for a year, maybe a year and a half. I sure as hell were not going to allow that to happen to me again when it came to AoC. After the euphoria of release day wore off, and the beer goggles were gone, the signs were there. 1) It wasnt just WoW with Conan running around 2) it wasnt the popular game with the in crowd of geeks that think they are the cool crowd, so when it was reveled that it wasnt just WoW with Conan running around they felt massive betrayal. 3) it wasnt just WoW with Conan running around. We aren’t satisfied until all our customers are! -Gaute Godager |
1) Fundamental aspects of the game unfinished/bugged. (gear/statistics/feats) 2) Piss poor customer support. Forums run by a bunch of facists. 3) Overhyped combat system, touted as revolutionary but actually turns out to be boring and repetitive. 4) The lies. Goddamit. And their arrogance. "We feel the launch went amazing" WTF? oom, broken stats, no AH, exploits, many many broken quests. 5) Lack of content and tbh the game just weren't that fun to play. |
|
Didn't know AoC failed.. But as long as the forumists at MMORPG.com is continuing to spread hate towards a game they obviously do not play anymore, It may fail eventually. Come to think of it, what good or use do we have with these kind of posts that can be seen here on a daily basis ? All I can see right now is that there seem's to be some sort of competition among the forumists, who writes to best "I hate Conan post" without actually saying just that "I hate Conan or I hate Funcom ". Never seen so much useless crap on a forum ever.. Move on and get something better to do with your time.. /junker |

Better do with our time? We bought the game and as customers wer´e more than entitled to criticize the lack of quality in the finished product as percieved by the customer base. That´s not blind hate that disgruntled customers talking! Something a company should take very seriously. 1. Heavily instanced and cramped areas. 2. Scrapping of original combat system. 3. Deception and lies. |

No I do not like it !! And yes I can avoid the negative posts as you said !! But for some years now MMORPG.com had been a valid and good forum regarding MMO's, like all my other MMO's played I have always had MMORPG.com as my second forum regarding the current game played. Again, in what way do you see this thread as useful ? What purpose does this thread have ? Or are you saying that this post will help Funcom solve their problems by looking into it !! They are aware of the problems already, there is NO need for these type of posts, aspecially on MMORPG.com wich isn't even an official forum for AoC. Just check the Video interview in 2 parts at this site, they are AWARE of all the problems. /junker |

Developers need to learn that while some people accept this, other people will not. as to why I post here about why AOC failed (me) Opinions here are uncensored, you have your and I have mine, we can post on Funcoms forum and others will read how you like the game, I can post about how I dont like aoc and the post will be deleted. |

Honestly security had to escort one ...psycho for lack of a better term from the last Gen-Con because he felt like it was his moral duty to shout threats at one of the AoC devs. The conduct on these forums hasn't been much better, |

I get it. You think unless a game is cancelled it hasn't failed. I'd like to get the opinions of the Funcom stock holders, investors, and the VAST majority of former players about that. |

I agree with some opinions that the game may actually survive but as to why it is not giving a good experience to customers. 1)Leadership the problem they have here is they hada bad launch after building some big hype once before the difference here was that conan was an established ip so it was much easier to build interestin this game than AO but when a company repeats these same mistakes this often it is obvious that from the top down they are making the wrong decisions. 2)Lack of content it amazes me more aren't appalled that for all these years the best they came up with is an introduction since there is something wrong with everything that comes after tortage. 3)Direction The only clear plans they seem to have to fix this mess are all wrong you only have really two things that you know from them they are working on one is DX10 which I almost sympathize with them on since they advertised it and angered many by not having it ready but graphics is the only strong suit the game has so it is only logical that in the end it can only have minimal impact on fixing things then you have an expansion pack this makes absolutely no sense proposing to ask the consumer to spend more money when you don't have control of what you already sold them is wrong but says only that they are desperate, clinging to the hope that they can do what they did at initial launch and fool many into spending money with them. |
