AOC's future is very dim. |

You've all heard what happened to the Guild Arch, seems a disgruntaled player talked a GM into making him the guild leader and this guy deleted everyone, disbanned the Keeps and player city. Took everything from the guild bank. When current guild leader pettitioned a gm he was told that Arch had never exsisted. They are and were a top guild with the first city slot. Its being looked into but nothing has been done and how you gonna turn the clock back. You folks need to wake up and start asking how could this happen and how could only one gm and player do this. |

Well it aint that uncommon that when a game comes out, ppl try it, some dislike it, they look at they previus game and compare it with the one they disliked and then like the old game more.
Just look at whan buzz vanguard have gotten lately:P
If it will happen to just 1 person or millions, only history will know

Other MOOs are stupid "clickers" - there's no way i'm playing game with simplier combat than AOC's. And why do i have to play game with graphics of 90-s? It's almost 2009 you know... I didn't play much fantasy&stuff RPGs, only EVE online, but when i heard everyone screaming about how bad AOC is - i decided to take a look at other games and compare (gameplay on youtube). Everything i saw was inferior in quality of graphics, animation, combat etc. It's not like AOC is great in every aspect, but everything else doesn't look any better. So i'll wait till the expand AOC or quit playing MMOs. |

Alexander I agree with you completely :) I've beta tested games before now and played more MMOs over the last few years than I care to keep count of - so I was expecting a newly live game to have it's share of glitches and problems. I've been playing for about 6 weeks now (maybe a little more) and since getting my graphic settings to suit my machine I must say the game seems to have become more stable with each update. There is still lag sometimes and I may yet have to change my settings again to do raids etc, but I'm trying to run the graphics as high end as I can, on a 3 year old machine with a new graphics card, so that's a problem I'm creating for myself LOL As far as games around at the moment go there's nothing like it as far as I'm aware, with regard to content and theme - it's just what I'm looking for at this time. So I'm in for the long haul! With additional content, DX10 support, PVP experience, etc all coming (sometime), I'm definitely willing to wait around. |

Well with an army of people willing to pay to test their game, they may actually have a future.
The combat is far from advanced, yes the graphics are pretty, but so are a lot of other games these days. Dont start on bugs, itemisation, listed features though, cos im sure there are 350,000 other people willing to tear you to shreds on that. |

I call that bullshit man, mmos differ greatly and its about emotions not the combat system. Some get a rush by progressing in raid content, others enjoy roleplaying and some others want to "overpown" other players but nobody talks about the combat system at the end of the day.

For all the fanbois out there....
This is from another post I made yesterday - but it seems oddly fitting for this thread: While the little emoticons should keep you occupied for a moment lets consider the vast posting about really a myriad of topics covering AOC's complete and utter failings as an MMO, but for clarities sake lets limit them to 3 and compare the game to a relationship.....
1) Most of the features on the BOX at LAUNCH, not to mention those features touted, in numerous ads in print, audio, video and every other form of ad spam possible, by the developers were not in the game. Many are not in the game TODAY, this very moment youre reading this article. And probably wont be when you happen across this article in say december of this year or even march 2009 for that matter. This is roughly the same as the first time you get to see the girl youve decided to date without makeup. At this point youre a lil shocked but you know her and she is familiar and youve already moved some of your stuff to her hourse or vice versa. Roughly the same way we all felt as we began to notice that AOC was not what they had been promising us all along. However, some of us had purchased new PC's, upgraded old ones, or spent alot of time telling our buddies how HOT our new game was to be able to admit to ourselves that the game flat out sucked and we couldnt live with her anymore. 2) After the bait and switch there are PROMISES. Now there are promises one makes for life, like for example, getting married. I did not want to marry AOC, though I did hope to have a long and wonderful relationship with this game. Now that being said, as it is in every relationship, you can only take being lied to so many times. June of this year she promised me PVP, June came and passed and then she changed her target date to July, but after august came and passed I pretty much had figured out that she was cheating on me with a guy name ERLING or something like that and they were eating and drinking merrily off my credit card. 3) Then she stops taking your phone calls. Well we've all been there, the sad lil place you arrive at in a relationship when you aren't quite sure its worth giving up on and you try to reason with her, at which point her annoying bitch friend named Jenny steps in and starts answering the phone and hanging up on you. This is roughly the same thing that took place in Age of Conan. Now taking into account that Erling Ellison or whatever the hell his name is looks like his chances of getting any action outside the bounds of the red light district hover somewhere around that of the pope converting to ISLAM. They chose to turn to the community to be their lil JENNY FRIEND and convert what was left of the FANBOIS into devoted and misguided Conan Nazis patrolling the forums with all the zeal of good little facists and all the power of a paid funcom employee. Banning anyone that DARED speak the truth of what was actually going on in the game and with the development arc. I do expect that at some point AOC will come crawling back to me via email, begging me to come back and give the NEW HER a shot again. She will talk of the old times we had together and try to suck me into yet another round of female induced hysteria. She will promise the world and in the end I will remember being banned from the forums and remember that I hate that bitch JENNY so much that nothing short of giving me a Mercedes could make me want to endure the treatment I suffered from the JENNIES of the forums and I will promptly HANG UP on FUNCOM. If this is the sort of MMO experience you are seeking - HAVE AT IT - but you wont even respect yourself in the morning. -Lum -Lum |

Ok, I think what the Rebn77 is trying to say that the system really isnt all the revolutionary. In fact, what I found, after pressing MORE buttons for the same attacks as I leveled in AOC, was that the entire system is ASS BACKWARDS. I should do more damage for the fewer keystrokes as I progress in the game, eventually leading me back to the same kind of system I had before I left lotro. Its not anything special and if anything becomes annoying like a fly that keeps landing in your hair while you're trying to raid and smoke and drink a beer all at the same time! -Lum |

at the low levels, AoC is great. Good game play, not TOO much clicking/button mashing, etc... but as you level, the shine begins to wear off... Once you hit 50, it became a real grind with the only future you saw ahead of you were the villas in the noble district... The combat system was only about 1/2 thought out with the concept of burst damage (and over powered healers), making some classes seem too powerful, but the changes made to them made them irrelevatn in PvP because they couldn't out damage a fly, let alone a ToS healing... Dungeon instance... sheesh, who made these things? A blind man with no sense of creativity??? They are horrible, silly and boring. Tank and spank, tank and spank, tank and spank... Even the graphics aren't that great (I still think EQ2 has better graphics), the messes don't always line up, leaving seams between the hair and head, the faces are atrocious, the hairstyles too... I think the blind man who did the dungeons must of done these too... Tortage... The highlight of the game, at no other point in this game did I have more fun than on tortage. Massive PvP... yah right. Even shadowbane got that part right. There was absolutely nothing revolutionary about the game, they took a great system (AO) and threw it out, rather than fixing the few MINOR problems it had and releasing a great MMO, they took a step backwards to release a patheticly unimaginative, poorly thought out, horribly developed, bad version of an EQ clone. |

I have no idea what you're talking about, though i didn't play Demonologist - magic users in AOC indeed as boring as all classes in other games coz their fight is too simple - no directional attacks and no combos. I have 5 basic attack moves. I also have 2 main fight stances and i do switch between them all the time. After you initiated combo you have to follow certain cimbination of basic attacks to pull it off. Also - combo is directional attack too, so if other player predicts it (and many of pro-PVPers in AOC do) - they block their left/right/top to block your main damage. I also have to switch beween my defense/attack stances in time to block damage when hit and deal it when i can, but i need good timing not to get hit in my attack stance and to pull off combo to hit my oponent (he moves). And also - range is impoirtant cause there's a check vs sword length so longer sword do have advantage.. And i didn't even mentioned tactical role of charge, stuns/knockdowns, traps, other abilities and items... Most important - in AOC no fight is predictable. Who ever says that "who strike firs wins" doesn't have a clue. I saw ppl with 1/4 health killing fully healthy characters just because they played well. I saw 1 guy killing 2 in fair fight and so on. You go on and click, i'm too old for another Diablo And speaking about graphics - it's not all, but it's also important. If game doesn't meet my minimal visual requirements - i won't play it. Because - it's not chess, picture needs to be somewhat believeable. You can just show someone 3 polygons and name it "horoic knight", oh and that something of 5 polygons is evil dragon... "free weed included with the game to help boost your imagination". Another downside of many games is quality of animation. Smooth motion-capture of conan is way better than jerky movements of lifeless dolls of some MMOs. Just look closely at AION gameplay vids! Toons of Lineage 2 look better, but L2 is a lot older old. There's got to be some progress. I'm not saying anything about WO graphics - i just don't like it. I'm talking about quality here. Rest is just preference. Some ppl don't even like PVP, and i dunno why anyone would play MMO if not for PVP. |

But hey, if you're having fun playing I guess that's all that matters, right? |
