WAR is more is for folks who like the traditional MMO. They're all pretty much copies of each other except adding in a few details that "seem" to make them "unique" or "exciting"
Darkfall is a game that offers a lot more features that most mmo's do not have.
I'd much rather play a new game than the same copies for years. |

Why on earth are we comparing Warhammer to a so called MMO that was due out 12 years ago anyways?....
I mean this is simple Warhammer > Vaporware

Darkfall (if released and IF any good, alot of if's) will be the game for diehard pvp'ers, more of a niche thing. Warhammer will probably be biger and more popular but also more for the average gamer. Just my estimation, I'l give both a shot. |

Oh and I know you are just trolling but DF was not due out 12 years ago and I guess you havent been paying attention but look for a beta in a few months with a plan for a 2008 release. You can find the link to beta signups in my signiture if you havent already signed up =) Thanks ~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. And my opinion on the two is pretty simple. WAR will be a great game. I have checked out the classes, did the preview weekend, and mythic is a great company. This game will be very popular and successful, and I am very happy that the game looks like it is in amazing shape. That being said, until DF exploded on friday with the Video and a Beta/Release Timeframe, I was on board with my guild for WAR. Now, a lot of us are like ehhhh lets see if we get into beta first, WAR will always be there. I have berated people for the "war is a wow clone" or "war stole from wow" arguement, so please dont read this as that. But I cant help but look at this game and not remember WoW. The graphics are the same which is fine i think they fit perfectly, and the UI etc is just all too familiar. Now the gameplay is much different and to be honest, if WAR released in 2003 with WoW, I probably would have never played WoW. But now almost everyone I talk to, and I have always been on pvp servers so the crowd I get my geek on with is all pvpers, says that WAR if anything will just be a filler till DF now if DF releases strongly. It just offers too unique of an experience and for straight up pvp experience, (yes i know WAR is RVR etc etc but cmon) DF is just "it". So tl;dr: WAR will be amazing and really give this industry some WoW competition in terms of the playerbase. DF needs to release well with stable servers and feature complete to do well, and if it does it is going to turn a LOT of heads and could really go high while remaining kind of a niche game. ~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. Not sure if 6 months is the right time, but I'll be specific: To the point that Warhammer Online was not a playable demo by the general populace it was, indeed, vaporware. I don't know when Warhammer became a beta, but roughly that time it ceased to be vaporware. Any developer can claim their software does a thing. Until they can demonstrate through the user that their software does such a thing it is vaporware. Until you can play it, it's vaporware...pie in the sky promises. |

Well, if that's your definition of vaporware, I have no quarrel with calling DF vaporware. I don't personally care whether it is or not, because I'm sick and effing tired of elf/dwarf/orc games, but it would be nice to see a game with this kind of formula succeed. ____________________________________________ |

Originally posted by DoktorTeufel you are probably one of those people that said Bioware is not making a KOTOR MMO right :)? people just like to talk a lot of crap: comparing blizzard's dev team of over 100 people (150 people as per games credits check ur WoW manual :D ) and over 4 years in development, to a team of 10+ for first year or 2 of development?! Get serious folks. Plus most mmo's released todate had the money for PR hype, Darkfall devs dont. I'll bet same people like yourselves will be saying STO MMO has been in development since 2006 right? hehe, even though it was unnounced by a defunct company, and license was acquired since Jan of 2008.

The only way to compare games, is to know them. And the only way to know them is to have played them. So will someone who has played the WAR beta and the Darkfall beta please enlighten us. Please I bet you. |

Some days I'm a griefer who wants pwn some noobs and burn down their house. Some days I'm a carebear who wants to group up and grind out some levels in peace. In a really good game you could do both. You could say the same thing about WAR 6-months ago. So whats your point? Wow, the DF trolls came late but they hit hard I see. Um, people were playing WAR 6 months ago. There was tons of videos of people playing 6 months ago. You have NO idea what you are talking about. Next, I don't understand how you, rikilli, cannot see that FFA PvP doesn't work. IN FPS you have the same tools, like that guy said, so its fair. In an MMO, one guy has 100 Magic casting lets say and you have 55 Magic casting. Skill is not involved, his spells probably do 10X more damage than yours and you will die in 1 shot. Like mentioned, 99% of the time you aren't going to run into someone that is on an equal playing field as you, ESPECIALLY not in a FFA PvP because its filled with griefers that max out their skills and find anyone to kill, doesn't matter who. That doesn't make a game fun, especially with open looting... Someone mentioned AoC sold lots of copies, so there must be a demand, right? Apparently not, as less than 25k people are playing now, I think its like 15k? Not sure on that but its very low, just a few months later and no new game came out yet to get them to leave, they just realized it sucks. Final thing, filling your site with a list of features that is just impossible to implement them all from a small indie company is also called HYPE. I'm so tired of hearing Darkfall isn't being hyped, that its not Adventurines style. I've also heard people say they are not all flashy and don't show you everything up front. Yes, why would a company show you all their features and how the crafting works, and this crop harvesting and advanced crafting system, etc? That's a crazy idea, right? Keep thinking so people, just don't come here flooding these forums with hate like the AoC people after they rip you off with a 79.99 collections edition. |
