Several posts on this forum has mentioned two rulesets, "Open" and "Core". |

I have no links, just general knowledge. Core is as close as you would get to "PVE" in Warhammer. All RVR and scenario content exists, but in the PVE areas there is absolutely no PVP. Though, as you progress in rank and through higher tiers of zones, the majority of the game will be about Realm Versus Realm combat and less about PVE. Open is effectively the "PVP" equivalent. Outside of a tiny handful of safe areas, 'RVR content' can occur anywhere. That is, people from the opposing faction can wander into anything you may be trying to do, and murder you. In other words, Core is RVR/PVP strictly on your terms and desire to participate. Open is PVP could be lurking almost anywhere, no matter what you're doing. |

Game hopping since 2003. |
For me it depends what class you are. A rogue or tank might take being attacked in his stride. A healer spec healer would want to avoid PvP Open servers. |

* The game was designed with Core in mind. The Open ruleset was added later after fans compained about not being able to attack un-flagged enemies.
* The zones are designed so that you rarely see the players of the other side unless you run into the RvR area or run into their PvE area.
* You can fight in the PvE area as long as both sides are flagged. Which did happen quite often in beta.
* The chicken mechanic is in effect on both servers. Open is still being discussed, but last we heard from the Devs the only planned difference between Core and Open is that your PvP flag is allways on when you're on Open. Meaning that if you enter ANY part of a lower-level zone you are turned into a chicken. Which means you can't go back to earlier levels to finish quests, fill out the ToK or help lower level friends PvE. |

Depression is just anger without the enthusiasm. |
I've heard that you're better off going for a Core server, as that's the way the game was always meant to be played. |

The only reason they did that is becasue they know how popular PVE Servers are in WOW amoungst straight players who are gayer than a pansy in a poohole. The pansies really have invaded MMORPG space and a commercially minded games developer would be negligent to dismiss the needs of that large slice of the meat market. IUndividually you might find more meat on butchers pencil that a dog has licjked clean, but collectively its another story. It isnt t a coincidence that a large percentage of people that choose a hobby that involves hours in a room staring at a screen turn out not to be the tough and hardy outdoor types that most armies would prefer on the front line (Italy excluded) Avoiding PVP at server selection level is tantamount to treason - Lore or no lore. It is there for people that cant hack it
