Oh right.........How silly of me for thinking that everyone that plays Core and RP are 'REAL' PvPers, I guess to qualify for that you have to be willing to sacrifice your freedom to do anything other than PVP because if you don't your sure to be ganked by others such as yourself.

Anyone can be a 'REAL' PvPer, you dont have to sacrifice substantial parts of the game by going on an Open server.

Let's just keep it at Core and Open both catering to a specific kind of player. A typical open player is NOT necessarily a pubescent kid with the urge to vent his frustrations. Older people opt for open servers too;

actually yes you can..several o fthe tome entries & unlocks are for being a chicken, getting killed by a chicken as a chicken, killed by a chicken as a player, killing a player as a chicken etc.

The chicken rule still applies to even the Open Servers...The servers allow you to PvP Everywhere including the PvE areas ...it how ever does NOT allow you to gank that would destroy the fundamental design behind the game.    They've stated numerous times they are nto doing a Free For All PvP server.

Open simply means your rvr flagged all the time...if you hit a low level character in a lower Tier with ahigher Tiered toon you go poof chicken mode.

btw i plan to not play on the Open servers myself though I had considered it..I enjoy having my down time and still be in game.  Open Servers would ruin that unless I stayed inside the city or an outpost.  I honestly don't see what the big issue is here...they balanced the classes around group pvp..then the pve world around that instead of the usual pve then pvp balance scale that destroys most games.   The game is perfectly set up for Open Servers...without disrupting balance on other servers so...*shrug* why can't we have cake and eat it too for once?

People want to be RvR flagged all the time let them...you can do that to on the core servers you just can't Jump people who arent' flagged...you can however jump people on an open server...its WAR ...WAAGh!

I agree with Banthis, although I will be trying an Open server.  Don't like open rules, don't play open...why has this thread lasted this long, is it so hard to grasp?

What people are genrally FORGETTING is that even PvE has a place in the OVERALL war effort with victory points being awarded for PQ's and stuff.. So even if someone doesn't wanna go to the "frontlines" they can still PvE AND help the realm WIN the war...

Sometimes its the small things in the background that can make a difference, and this doesn't mean going around killing everything in sight.. You mention realism, but think about.. WW2 was fought on FRONTS... Germans just didnt appear on US soil and ran through each city killing americans and it didnt happen that way for americans either over in europe.. The war began on a front and as the effort progressed that front pushed forward.. Thats just the way wars are fought..

I'm pretty sure I read that even on Core, opposing faction players entering your "PvE area" would be permanently RvR flagged until they leave. So if they stalk you in your zone you can attack them, but they can't attack you (until you flag yourself ofc).

Also the way I understand it the intention is that there is no shared area that isn't an RvR zone even for the Core ruleset. This means you won't (or shouldn't) usually see someone from an opposing faction doing PvE alongside you, unless you cross over into their zone and risk being attacked.

I think everyone is grossly overestimating Open ruleset pros and neglecting the cons.

Is this true? Can we be sure that if you go into the other side's area you are immediately flagged?

It's still not quite the same as going over and conducting a raid, but an interesting dynamic.

Not true.  each area has PvE and RvR areas.  You will not be auto flagged in a PvE area on a core server.  You can still flag yourself though.

RvR area, yes you will be auto flagged for pvp.

Yeah I was kinda debating on what server to play on.... I will be on a RPOpen server if they have one.    I was worried that you coulnd't unlock stuff in the TOK as a chicken but I just read that you can, which is awesome.  Im all about open RvR, nothing like doing a quest and running into some players from the other Relm and having a nice battle.

I always thought set PvP areas were lame, I should have a choice  to attack a player from the other side as soon as I see them.  I just don't like getting one shotted from high lvl people,I never understood why people did that. I PvP cuz  its fun and challenging if you fight someone in your lvl range.  One shotting someone is pointless and no fun at all, its just for people that like grieving.
