darkfall has promise if it can deliver. I was disapointed somewhat with the movie as another post said it seemed more like a smoke screen it really showed none of the sub systems. Crafting,ui,pve ai which they've bosted about, char. creation especialy since what i saw as far a toons go all looked the same. The graphics aren't very good but they were never meant to be. The game is based on pvp geared towards large scale battles you cant have both. some of the swg qualities it has are open world you can do what you want FREEDOM no class restrictions (want to heal and tank you can) almost everything is player crafted with decay its not about who loots the epic weapon bs crafted goods >than looted goods resources play apart and to get the resources you need to control the land the resouces are on
The devs are blowing it with there hush, hush attitude especialy with warhammer comin out because one thing thats more important than the game are the people you play it with and the group ive played with (about 25peeps) since early pre-cu is going for war because of this no info crap the devs are doin.As it stands now Darkfall is at the level of Dnl in my view sure there is a game but who the hell knows how it plays or if it plays.

I have Darkfall now! |
Ever since NGE i have been waiting for another sandbox MMO. I tryed EVE alittle, but "playing" a ship was not a fun as playing a character. So naturally i have been waiting for Darkfall, not by personal choice! Just for the sanbox gameplay. And i was not scared shitless from the new video. I just long for a game with player freedom. If Pre-CU SWG would come back with a 2008 "update", i would play that in a heartbeat. But untill that happens, im stuck with Darkfall. |

i hope both Ryzom and Darkfall (and earthrise? or was it Fallen earth?) sandbox games are successful. we need more of them in the industry. we might even see a big company take on the challenge of developing a sandbox. Originally posted by Cyborg99 |

ugh not more fantasy mixed with Medieval lore |

Mortal Online More freakin Fantasy but I don't see a Sci-Fi game making it anytime soon. |

Actually, the only Sci-fi MMO I'm looking forward to is Crusades. Check it out. http://www.vizualfxstudios.com/crusades/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 Looks to be a pretty fun experience. They're in alpha now. They should really put this up on here soon. |

On topic however, i am horribly sick of fantasy. so tired of orcs and elves. Also, if it took this long for the game to develop (what, ten years?) i cant imagine the x-pacs and new content would come too frequently. "And after blizzard takes over the world. they are gonna gather a bunch of lemmings, sit on their fat asses near a cliff, and watch the little fuzzy bastards suicide dive into the ground below. . . . . all just for their own entertainment." |

LOL @ DF. No thanks, it's like Vanguard happened all over again. I'm not falling for that one again. |

Luckily you wont have the chance to fall for it again. You will have a chance to play the game before you pay, and there wont even be preorders. If you are really into sandboxes, I would advise that you at least keep an eye on the beta reactions and reviews at launch. ~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. It might be sandboxy, but it doesn't look like it will hold a candle to the original skill system in Star Wars. I loved being able to be anything, any combination of anything and then change if I wanted. What is more free than that. I have been taking a look at Darkfall though. Will wait to see if they release an ACTUAL gameplay video and not 17 minutes of scripted camera work. Was basically a sales and promotion tool more than anything that really tells how the game would play. And, judging by responses of the various enemies, there was at least some fighting between players and npc's. Or it could have been the famous beta testing bots. Until they can show me a playable game and not a movie done in the game engine, I have to reserve judgement. Would be cool if they deliver though. Gotta have my fingers crossed I guess.

I already have my sandbox - Ryzom. Nevertheless I'll most likely play Darkfall too. |

As you state "the gameplay is incredible" I must assume you have actually played it. Do tell us when and where you played it, as I'd hate to think your whole opinion is just based on marketing hype of a game no one has actually played. You really do make alot of statements ie "even more wide open and sandboxy then Pre-CU SWG was" based on what a video? Oh well Fanboism is alive and well. Eat the hype its good for you! |

I've been keeping half an eye on this one as well. It could be fun, i think its more viable option than Darkfall. But i think earthrise/Fallen Earth will be the most viable options to fill the void. |

You might get some pvp types interested in DF but most people that played swg won't got to DF because of the ffa pvp and corpse looting. Sandbox or not, getting ganked and having all your stuff taken by a bunch of douche bags isn't what the vast majority of gamers consider fun. |

Even if Darkfall is a sandbox it will still be a tard magnet because of the ffa pvp and player looting. I can't wait for it to come out, though, just to get those types of players out of the games I do play. |

You're right on the money with this. Nothing like giving the psychopaths a place to play. CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested. Once a denizen of Ahazi |

I am as well waiting for Darkfall to come out signed on for the beta and the such and awaitng eagerly to come out. But in the mean time for those waiting and want a sandbox to play atm for free The Saga Of Ryzom is free atm but has limited free accounts left it is a sandbox -skilled based game only cons is the character customization sux. Other than that Im enjoying it like I havent a MMO in years.... and yes there is decay, player housing, unlimted skill options and no cap, and a crafting system :) For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG) http://www.fragglerockforever.com/swg/antiTCGloot.gif |

What makes a good MMO? Good quality, good customer service, good business model, good fun. |

One of my long-time SWG pals switched over to Ryzom and loved it for the skill based, sand-box type system. I'm thinking of trying it myself :). |

This does look interesting, and I'm quite impressed to see they're asking people for input on what we as gamers want in a sandbox MMO. http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/200177 It's nice to see a developer that wants to work with gamers! |
