Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authority derives.

Dune would just about be the last huge Sci-fi title out that hasn't been exploited and ruined yet.  Might be interesting for a change.  Why would anyone be anything other than a Fremen or a bene gesseret though?  Also I think the time for dune has come and gone, many people nowadays haven't seen it, or thought it was to wierd.  The children of Dune series was interesting though,

And that's why there shouldn't be an MMO made of the game.

I think it would be great for an MMO.............

So long as they kept it sandbox and factional. No strict classes just a bunch of skillsets that make sense for the game then let us go for it. We can build the cities and fight over spice mines and territory. Could be old school SWG style cool.

The original SWG had the Dune feel, also Tabula Rasa might get quite close to it, although there are not many information about the game to confirm it.

Anyway it would be a great game if well done, I would put forward Mythic as candidates to develop it, I think they can do a great job.

Could be done but should be a mix of swg and planetside i'd have to say.For good combat you'd like it to be fps like planetside. But you would want to be able to really create cities like in swg and drill for resources like in swg.Think it would be hard to combine both in one game.

To do Dune properly would be very difficult. It would need to be skill based, not level based, just as some people have said. There would need to be some serious Spice mining, and polotical machinations like in the stories. You could easily have questlines about assassinations and the like, and that would rule.

I think the key here would be a sandbox. If you give people the ability to do anything they want, the game could stay alive for many years. Player build and controlled cities, random Spice hotspots, which wear out and sprout up somewhere else, to keep strategically important locations fluctuating. Thing like this could really keep the game interesting, and just begging for pvp. I think if the right people got hold of it, it could be just incredible.

I would love to play a DUNE MMORPG.

However, I am compelled to say the book is so much better than the movie.  I would hate the same to be for the game.  Nevertheless, a Dune MMORPG is a very intriguing concept.

I think there is a widespread interest in a MMORPG sci-fi right now.

I love Dune. I have all the books and movies. However I dont want to play in another MMO based on some of my favorite books. It always sounds good at first thought... but think of how limiting IP's of this nature will be. (Same reason after testing LOTR I wont play it.)

How soon they forget: Dune Generations

It was more of a MMOSG, all the same I don't see anyone picking up the IP. Even if they do, I doubt there's a developer out there that would do it right.

An interesting idea, but...I'd be leary of one myself

Some of my most fun gaming over the years was way back 'in the day' on some of the various Dune MUSHs (3 at one point, I was active on at one time or another).  An MMO representation of the universe could be interesting, but I have a hard time really thinking that the universe could be done well.

A vast, dry, empty wasteland full of nothing but dirt and sand and the occasional worm? A place where you could wander around on foot for an eternity and not find anything but emptiness as far as the eye could see?

How exactly would this game differ from AoC? :)

Kidding aside... Dune is a amazing world with a huge cult following and has all the necessary components lore-wise to make a great mmo.  I think it would be perfect but I doubt most of the newer gamers would recognize the source material.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

I don't think a true MMOG based on the Herbert universe would look anything like what most of you think of when you think of Dune.

Consider the following post I made a few months ago:

What Would a Dune MMOG Be Like?

A Dune MMO would be horrible. Nothing but big sandbox(a real sandbox, that little kids play in. Not the gaming term.) . I know Star Wars Galaxies has Tatooine, but its not the only planet, lol. In short Dunes sucks and doesn't have a wide enough audience. Come to think about it, how the heck did Stargate get an MMO. Its in the same boat as DUNE, LOL.

When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!

Seems you haven't read any of the Dune books. Sure, Arrakis is important but, what about

-Caladan (Somewhat similar to South-East Asia)

-Kaitain (Imperial capital, huge cities)

-Salusa Secundus (Devastated by nuclear weapons, full of mutant beasts)

-Giedi Prime (Extremely polluted world)

-Bela Tegeuse (Darkness, bioluminescent creatures)

-Rossak (Small inhabitable area, poisonous creatures)

-Ecaz (Jungle planet)

-Ix (Technologically overdeveloped, underground cities)

-Many other, less detailed worlds like Harmonthep or Tupile.

It would be good , but I dont trust any MMO company to do it properly.Only one I could see pulling this off would be CCP , but I dont want them to as Eve would suffer for it.

This would be true, I've only seen the movie.
