Its simple to answer. Memory leaks. From early start in beta, the game has been riddled with huge memory problems. Everyone that knows a tiny bit about such issues knew then and knows now how big of a problem they can be and it can take years to fix them in the games that suffer from this issue.. But - AOC is not only a single player game. Its a game where GROUP of ppl are supposed to play together and I think everyone can see how memory leaks and crashes are the last thing that these games need. Who wants to go to a dungeon and finding out half way through - after 30 mins of grouping up and starting the run - that your tank is loosing connection every 10 mins... Yes... thats what is happening in AOC atm. Basicly - memory leaks are the cause of bad coding. It happens in pretty much every game to certain extend, but only becomes problems in games that use huge amount of memory - therefor leaking it faster to the degree of the game or PC crashing. In early days of AOC I suffered alot cause of these memory issues and I know exactly how it feels to actually try to work with ppl - both in long questlines and in dungeon runs when some ppl are plauged with these issues. Its not fun. And it simply not acceptable in a MMORPG game. THe fact of the matter is that AOC is at this point using TWICE as much memory as the most populare MMOs out there atm. It is littered with huge gaping holes in the code that are causing huge problems and even tho Funcom say they are fixing something - the truth is that less than 1/10 of the problems can be delt with without totally recoding the game. Now someone might point out - "Well - I have had no problems with memory while playing AOC. It must be the crappy PC that you are using". This is not the case with memory leaks. Many diffrent issues can be causing memory problems. I said it from day one - when I entered AOC beta that AOC had failed if ONE single person would be suffering from Memory leaks when the game went retail. THe fact is that big portion of players have had problems with memory leaks. And since this is an MMO game - the problems dont only lie with the individual who is playing on his pc. It lies with the OTHER players he plays with. Key factor in good MMO is the stability of the game. THats why many of the best and most populare MMOs are build on simple but stable coding. This is NOT the case with AOC. Thats why I recomend everyone to think - not only twice but 10 times before they buy this game cause yes.. You will be 10 times more likely to encounter memory problems in AOC. Not only on your PC - But also seeing this problem with ppl that you meet up with in the game. |

Runs fine for me :P |

Runs good on both my computers, have not experience memory leaks. Perhaps it got worse with later patches?
I think there are other reasons why it can't be considered a good MMO. To find out what, just look around on this forum section. |

Dear mr. OP. I think your point is completely mute, and the reason is this. Would Age of Conman be a good game without memory leaks? No, it would not. Even if the coding was 100% complete and working(And yea, I mean if say.. super advanced features like stats and attributes were actually implemented.. hope I'm not too radical for you folks ;P), it would still be a horribly bad game . It has nothing to do with memory leaks, but poor game design. |

Like tarkin1980 said. It wouldnt be good if it was the most stable game ever made. I had a few crashes when I played it, but stability wasnt anything I considered a big problem. Had the game been really fun and else working like it should I would of course be annoyed if it crashed once or twice per week. But this is just one of insanely many things why AOC can never be considered a good MMO. I would like to say it cant even be considered a MMO, not by my definition of MMO. I dont define Guildwars as MMO and I dont define AoC as MMO. Everquest 2 also uses instances, but in alot better way than AoC. It's like you can fit 10 people per instance in AoC cause keeps popping up new ones all the time and still the zones feel empty. |

I have Vista x64 with 4GB ram and haven't crashed due to a memory leak once. I've had a few graphical issues here and there but updating my drivers fixed that. Saying that, half the glitches and bugs I hear about have had virtually no impact on me and I can only assume it's because of Vista x64's vastly superior memory management. I've also heard XP 64 has relatively few issues as well. My flatmate on the other hand crashes all the time but he's running XP 32. We even reinstalled XP from scratch alaong with all the drivers yet the problems still pursist. Again pointing to a problem with the game's 32bit client, but this seems to be the general concensis anyway. I must say, bar class imbalance, AoC is the most fun I've had in a MMO ever. I especially enjoy the Ranger class - popping out of stealth and taking down a ganker from range never gets old! AoC has the potential to be one of the best MMO's ever made, they just need to iron out all the kinks and add content as promised. I look forward to when they do. To wank, or not to wank. The ultimate MMO sacrifice. |

AoC is not a good MMO, never was and never will be. Why? It has the worst community I had ever seen so far. |

Currently, there are many issues preventing AOC from being a good MMO. But never? That's a long time. It is impossible to credibly make such a statement. |

I can't remember if AoCTester actually subscribed to the game, but I can tell you the game uses 31% of my RAM, other games quickly: Crysis uses 37%, Mass Effect 38%, Warhammer Preview Weekend 39%,Vanguard Saga of Hero's 40% and Guild Wars 51%. I can do more games and show screen shots if you want? I haven't even had a red line in over 7 weeks. Seems majority of people here dont have a problem with it, thats probably because they are current subscribers and not initial release 5 days played only. I'm not saying the game is entirely stable or a good MMORPG, but you are basing the entire quality of one MMORPG entirely on the fact of stability and coding which you obviously have no idea what it is. This is a worthless post as your argument is completely fallable and you have no justification to truly say this game will never be considered a good MMO. Please, do all of us a favor who play this game or not and talk about how badly there is no content in end game, or how unbalanced pvp is instead of basing your argument not only on how 'unstable the game is' but on how 'unstable the game was in beta' which is completely ludacrous to bring that up now that the game has been released. |

The reason it won't be good is because everything is instanced and when you are in an instance and it does not have enough players in it, it crashes you to login screen you log back in and everyone in your group is in diff instances and when you get back organized the instance goes down again and you repeat the process. Making world zones instanced = retarded. The loading between zones is fine like in EQ, but to actually instance everything I can't stand. But I haven't played for about 5-6 weeks now so maybe they have changed how the retarded instance managing system works.
Nothing like pvp'ing for an hour to get a Dm camp in kesh then instance decides it doesnt have enough players in it to stay open and now you have to regroup and fight for the camp again. Really good idea that. |

ya i remember being in a few dungeon groups but a good portion of them had crash issues and it become noticeable that there wasnt going to be a good reason to invest the time to try and make it work |

Damn, I get memory leak crashes all the time. However, usually my map goes grey first and then I know I have to relog to avoid a crash. Happens, on average, once every 2-5 hours. I am using XP btw as Vista was a no-no. I have 4 gigs of RAM, but xp recognizes only 3.25 of it Core 2 Duo 3.17 processor, 9800 GTX graphics card. The memory leak bug is annoying when I find a group and I have AGES to travel to get to them. So I am changing damn instances for ages, I crash and then the group has long since abandonded me. Really frustrating. At that point I stop playing and play something else. I still sub and play AOC because I like the game overall, I am a casual player at lv58. But the grey map/memory leak thing is a serious issue for many, many players and any denying it is the wrong way to defend this game. Regards Melmoth |

Lvl 58 is already getting annoyed and pissed, imagine a lvl 80 lol. At least at 58, you have lvling to keep you occupied, at 80, there's 0, nothing, to do. |
