The guy that stated there is NEVER going to be a pre nge/pre cu is TOTALLY WRONG. There IS Pre CU and my long standing account got banned for talking about it here. |

For me it was my first MMO and I found an avenue to persue my secret desires to be one with the force. Even if it may exist in an geo-centric universe...it was still epic to me. Think those who played it back in the day can appreciate what it was and have every right to 'hate' it now like a bad love. SOE was shady and slithered in a patch that changed the SWG world forever. I was mad as hell when it happened and remember to this day how they just dropped it on everyone. Admit it or not SOE opened it up for another genre that didnt go over so well and in the process ruined the very idea of an MMO for thousands. Everyone has and have had great points on both sides. It just comes down to your level of expectations in a game. Mine was pre-cu so sorry for being upset with SOE. Sony is a shady company imo and experience. So all you 'don't hate' haters and everyone else...don't want to hear the whinning then don't read a thread about whinning. I also agree what is done is done and maybe it is time for those old SWG salties to start hating on some other let down MMO. |

He said "without makeup or mask." Direct quote. In any world besides $OE's, what most of these "vets" do here would actually help those that are still playing the game. Most companies listen to their customers, both past and present, take notes accordingly and try to actually learn something to increase profits and increase interest in their products. Why $OE, still, does not even have a clue, well, it just boggles the mind. Most of these "vets" want a classic server and I don't know a single person, outside of SOE Austin, that would not concede that such a deal would increase server populations, $OE revenues, make for a more interesting gameplay situation for existing players and new players alike, might just go along way for the CHANGES that $OE Austin has plagued the game with, and should teach $OE just exactly what their "methods" of administrating SWG have done to themselves. Anywhere, but $OE world, someone would "get it". Instead, you all got a "card game" which is taking players out of the virtual world to make servers seem even more desolate. Incredible. |

Lordlow has a good point, I left for nine months after the NGE all because of the way it was delivered, after a while my resentment passed if yours hasn't thats fine I guess the game didn't mean that much to me to be permanently alienated from it, still flaming everyone that even mentions the game after this long is messed up you have to admit. As far as Esquires statement, go back and read the part I posted about the Sony having a foot in the door on all things Star Wars if that doesn't clear it up for you, I don't know who could explain it to you. And as far as you go MichaelCr, did you forget the rest of that post? { Mod Edit } |

1. I love how people point to the card game as if it's something that SOE invented, or that didn't exist in other games. 2. Capitalizing the word "CHANGES" constantly is becoming rather trite. 3. None of what you posted even remotely debunks anything that I've posted. Far too many people around here take their dislike of SOE and SWG and project it on those who still play the game with absolutely no fear of reprisal, yet still throw themselves a pity party and insist that MMORPG.com is out to "get the vets." The hypocrisy, doublespeak and groupthink around here is simply stunning. So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. 1. As I'm sure you know, TCG is just another attempt at maximising dollars. There is no attempt there to re-populate servers, fix issues, fix bugs, etc etc. All it is, is a way to drain more dollars from the existing player base. Does not even matter if another game, such as WoW, has it or not. At least Blizzard has the player base to support such an addition. Money, time, and resources were put into TCG via Sony/SOE. Do you honestly think these resouces are placed in the best manner they could be for the betterment of SWG? Where's the most "bang for the buck"? 2. OK, Capitalizing the word CHANGES may, indeed, be trite. But the CHANGES were and ARE the reason why we are all here. If there were no CU, NGE, GCW re-vamp, C6CD, GU-whatever, stealth nerfs, nerfs, etc. etc, you or I, either one, would simply NOT be here and discussing anything. We would be, in the game, paying SOE cash for the privilage. I capitol the word "CHANGES" specifically for $OE as that is the ENTIRE reason this board exists, the other SOE "hate" sites, the reason why SWG population numbers are now in the dump, and the reason why thier revenue is so low they have to come up with TCG to try something, anything, to keep it all going. 3. I'm not trying to "de-bunke" you in the slightest. We have had many a spirited discussion on the SWG boards and I very, very, rarely resort to "flaming" other posters. This IS NOT a problem between you and I, it IS a problem between SOE and it's customers, both past and present. This includes both of us. I'm am sure that BOTH of us want the best for SWG, I am aware that you know very well what would help SWG, and it would seem NEITHER one of us can get thru to SOE Austin. That is the problem here. It's not unsubed "vets" against subbed players, or at least it should not be. $OE started this junk, they caused this so called "war" between the player base, and they ARE the only ones that can clean up their own mess. I did notice you didn't "debunk" my points, either other my my "trite" use of the word "CHANGES" which, in all probability, will continue right up and until $OE figures it out. And here, I thought your personal "pet pieve" was my use of the term, the Chapter 6 Combat Downgrade. |

1. Of COURSE it's a money grab. A completely optional money grab, one that no player is under any obligation to participate in if they don't want to. And while money and time from SOE were used in implementing this, a VAST majority of that time and development effort was done in SOE's Denver studio. The apparent impact on SOE Austin hasn't been that bad. 2. We could argue the pros and cons of different changes until we're blue in the face. 3. You're right, it should not be "vets" vs. "active players." But I could dredge up hundreds upon hundreds of comments from tons of commenters around here who refer to the current players as stupid, lazy, unethical, immoral, and basically responsible for (or at least complicit in) the raping of the Star Wars franchise. So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. 1. Yeah, it's pretty easy to see the motives behind the card game. And remember, I called it an addition, not a CHANGE. I, personally have no problems with TCG other than the fact, if they would have used the Denver Studio to release a "classic server", it would of got the game. players both past and present, and $OE a much better return. 2. Yep, been there, done that and probably will again. But, the most "heated" discussions on CHANGES seem to be around the combat system and CHANGES to existing code. There again, is the entire reason this board, and others like it, exists. 3. You and I, both, have seen both sides come off with some "low blows". 1. I am so sick to death of hearing about a classic server, I could spit. It has been stated over ... and over ... and over ... and over that classic servers are NEVER EVER EVER going to happen, and yet they are constantly brought up. What exactly makes you think that SOE can just push a button and BAM! pre-CU? Has it ever occured to anyone that there may be other forces preventing them from doing that? I'm not trying to be an apologist for SOE by any means, but for a company that is after nothing but the almighty dollar (as I, you, and pretty much everyone else knows they are), wouldn't they release a classic server if they could? Obviously, something is preventing them from doing that. 2. Changes that rectify past changes, at least in part, are not necessarily bad. I think you know where I'm going with this. 3. The "low blows" from the current players to the so-called "vets" are generally along the lines of "get over it already." The "low blows" from the so-called "vets" usually involve calling people idiots. I would say that far nastier vitriol comes from the so-called "vets." { Mod Edit } So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. I admit the meatlumps is a terrible storyline that made me want to stab my eyes out reading it. The trading card game is a terrible idea as it makes servers seem even less populated, and promotes buying in game items for real cash.

Doesn't necessarly make it right, but it certainly goes on from both sides. But, when you get right down to it, $OE created this riff in players, past and present, and $OE is probably the only 1 entity that can stop it.
1. I am so sick to death of hearing about a classic server, I could spit. It has been stated over ... and over ... and over ... and over that classic servers are NEVER EVER EVER going to happen, and yet they are constantly brought up. What exactly makes you think that SOE can just push a button and BAM! pre-CU? Has it ever occured to anyone that there may be other forces preventing them from doing that? I'm not trying to be an apologist for SOE by any means, but for a company that is after nothing but the almighty dollar (as I, you, and pretty much everyone else knows they are), wouldn't they release a classic server if they could? Obviously, something is preventing them from doing that. 2. Changes that rectify past changes, at least in part, are not necessarily bad. I think you know where I'm going with this. 3. The "low blows" from the current players to the so-called "vets" are generally along the lines of "get over it already." The "low blows" from the so-called "vets" usually involve calling people idiots. I would say that far nastier vitriol comes from the so-called "vets." { Mod Edit }
1. Due to the simple fact that i know they can. While screaming about C6CD last year, during a personal tel-con with Lorin Jameson, he stated they had CU brought up on their internal servers with a "classic server" in mind. His reasoning for not putting 1 up was, "there are too many bugs". He did say pre-CU was not an option but did not say why. They can install CU, if they want. And there is a reason it's still being brought up, I would imagine. 2. I understand. And I would agree until those CHANGES to rectify CHANGES are made on a playerbase that did not know how it was in the 1st place. They felt as bad on the "rectifing CHANGES" as you all did on the original. 3. I seen a few more statements other than "get over it". And getting over it is relative, also. Still, $OE started this and $OE needs to clean it up. |

"active players." 1. That one's news to me, bro. I find it very hard to believe that, with the amount of time I spend on the o-boards and this one, that I never would have heard of this. So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist. |

Unless Bio-Ware Releases a Sandbox Star Wars MMO that is as complex and satisfying as the Cu and Pre-Cu varients were; I see this game going for Ten at least.
Look at AO, UO, EvE and EQ.....heck....MxO is still around; and they have less players than SWG or Hello Kitty.
Jester....change that makeup....its time to get a new gripe

Yeah. I've posted about it a few times, both here and there. I made a thread, here, right after DM making that statement asking "vets" if they wanted a CU server. Reactions were mixed. He stated it might take 2 devs teams to keep both going. I think I've still got his "direct" phone # in fact. lol |
