Darkfall Releases - February 25th!!! Vaporware trolls = scum

8/29/08 8:10:38 PM#101

Getting back on topic...

Going back to the archer sniping scene in the tree.  It looked as if he was one-shotting the players on the ground.  Makes me wonder if there is a long cast archer skill that may allow this.  I remember devs saying that magic and bows would not do the dmg that a melee blow would.

Anyone else have thoughts about this?  Maybe i was too busy crying out of happiness to notice that they weren't going down in one shot.

The graphics and animations remind me a lot of Dark and Light.

Is it the same company or a relaunch of Dark and Light?

fair enough

I know its graphics are not crisis

but wow's graphics are not the best either, not even when it came out.

Agree , i only watched the utube video. That is why i said will wait and see . the list of thing the game has is great just don't want 10 year old graphic. O and as far as WoW graphic yes i have WoW and bought the BC expansion , but for some reason me and my wife just can't stay logged in for more then a few hours before we find a reason to logout. I do play EQ2 but little by little they are lowering it to WoW . so i hope for this game since Vanguard has lost most of its people and i want a living server.

That was something that got my attention too.  He did seem to be able to one shot players.  Of course, we dont know if those players had damage before the arrow hit them, or if they edited the sequence for drama.

It also seemed as if the mage was able to one shot the archer.  He certainly knocked him out of the tree, but perhaps did not kill him.

Which brings me to falling damage.  If there is damage, it would seem to require a very long fall, since I noticed a lot of leaping off of things.

It was probably done for effect.  When you watch the video.  Alot of the people look like they were dying from one or two hits of melee.   I seriously doubt that it will play out like some CS:S match up.  Where everyone is running around with AWP's one and two shotting people.  That would just be stupid.

I refrained from any comment on Darkfall for so long due to my doubts.  But I have to say, for an independant company, that was damn impressive.  I'll give it a shot for sure if the game comes out.

Yea a lot of people arent giving them credit for their company size and what they have accomplished with the video and their game.

I cant wait and hope i get lucky with a beta invite.  But of course we all must be on drugs for looking forward to this game huh?

Ahhhhh, the hypocrisy of gamers....

How many threads have we seen, "Gameplay versus Graphics" where the majority of gamers insist that graphics take a backseat to gameplay.  And yet, what seems to be one of the number one criticisms, graphics.

This is one of the problems with gamers today.  Many are so lazy they don't want to use their imagination.  Someone talking about metal armor would cause a player to sink, lol.  Stop thinking congrete and start thinking abstract, because when you get past that way of thinking your imagination will take off and soar, and that's when the fun starts.

It seems like for some gamers the ultimate achievment would be to create a super realistic life simulator.  And while that would indeed be a monumental accomplisment, I submit that such a thing has already been done; you have only to get up, throw open the door and walk outside into the real world.

For me it's totally different.  I need a balance of Gameplay, Game Mechanics, and Graphics.  I find it really hard to be immersed in a world I find dull or boring to look at.  I find the whole gameplay over graphics argument flawed.  It paints everything as black or white.  When a good game company should be able to provide both.

You will never hear me say one is more important then the other.  Because in all honesty, I find them both to be important.  Whether your world be Fantasy or Sci-Fi based.   Gameplay should never take a back seat to graphics, and graphics IMHO should never take a backseat to gameplay.  They shoud both be carefully balanced from conception to development to release.

i dont care about graphics....really....but this didnt show us anything of real substance. Most of the video was choreographed, the ui appeared for maybe 10 seconds...and the full ui was lik ea blip, and crafting was a whole 10 seconds. It didnt really show anything other than combat.

So what you demand is a full cover of the game in every aspect BEFORE the game is even in open beta?

You dont want to figure out ANYTHING for yourself? You dont want to go out exploring and find something you never seen before? Get positively surpriced?

Just amazing.

I'll try this again. Maybe this time people won#t bash my head in for bringing up some points. *smirks*

Things I liked:

- The combat looked fun, fast-paced and chaotic. I like that. Gets the blood flowing. Mounted combat in particular looked awesome.

- The character graphics. The avatars, including weapons and armor looked good. Not extremely great, but good, considering the limitations. I watched closely and I didn't see one avatar that looked remotely like another, not even equipment wise, which is good.

What I didn't like:

- The very very little we saw of the UI. Yes, some people seem to think that's totally unimportant, but I like watching the UI when I watch videos of a game. It gives me more of a feel how a game is played. Plus, what I did see of the UI was weird. Using Windows Vista cursors? Well, that's a minor thing, so not a big worry.

- The animations and spell effects/water and so on. Those could do with a little more tweaking. Not a priority maybe, but would be nice.

What I missed:

- More Crafting. More Guild Cities, More PvE (aka Mobs).

All in all, I'm glad this Video was released, I had a good time watching it and I am looking forward to Beta and/or Playtesting. I'm still worried about the featureset, but I already knew that a video couldn't take that worry away. Kudos to Aventurine for what they did, but I am hoping more will follow.

P.S.: If I'm tagged as a Troll again for this post, I'm going to laugh.

If your post isn't full of glowing admiration for Aventurine, Tasos, and Darkfall.  You know you will be labeled a troll, Singsofdeath.  Don't know why you are hoping for something different.

I agree its a balance. Personally i think the graphics is amazingly good since were gonna be able to fight in epic battles of 200 vs 200 with a good 60 fps.

With too good graphics this wouldnt be possible cause of major lag issues. This would affect gameplay in a unacceptable way.

So getting Age of Conan hi polygon graphics were never an option.

If you cant accept a game with Darkfall feature list and gameplay and loose abit on the graphic side then i think Darkfall isnt a game for you.

Video is in average settings and ingame you get better graphics then the video could express.

nah all opinions are welcomed.  youll see people who have given constructive criticism about the video have been met with intelligent conversation and discussion.

What is labeled as trolling is just blatant insults that arent true and have no support.

Or people who have been on a crusade to discredit this game and attacked anyone who was a fan.  Now they are here and without even a thought about how they were wrong about the developers of this game, they now look for random things to attack now.

I think the animations could be improved.  Characters looked like they weren't connected to the world very well.

I wasn't really pleased with the particle effects either.

Wish I could have seen more of the combat in first person.  The video left me wondering about a lot.

Can't wait to try the game.
