Eve is nothing but a nice screensaver trying to pose as a MMORPG.

Wow so bitter whats wrong your MMO dying or something?

P.S. it also helps to actually be a bit more descriptive.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

Out of curiosity did you try joining a player run corp as i find EvE is a lot easier and more interesting as part of a groupe of close knit loyal friends.

Well anyway i hope you find a mmo you enjoy and i end this by saying, "Have fun".

to summarize this entire thread.

if you have a short attention spam, you can't and will not be an eve player.

basically, you're a moron. QQ and go play your fake-lobby (server multiples of hundreds) mmos with no communities inbetween.

"do you play wow" yes... "which server" oh... i cant play with you... "wanna switch?" ya.. thats 25$

uhhhh.... how about you play an MMO and not gamespy.

Let's stop praying for someone to save us and start saving ourselves.

Many MMORPG's are like a house.  You as a buyer walk through them, look at all the bells and whistles and nod saying, "This is a nice house.  I think I'll stay."  Many times, these features get old and you look to sell the one you have to buy another with different or more features.  World of Warcraft has been my house for many years.  I like it, though wanted to expand my real estate...see what's out there.

I came to EVE.  I was puzzled at first because all I saw was a grass field.  As I walked around, I was given a hammer, nails, a big stack of wood, pipes, wiring, and paint.  Does your environment affect you or do you affect your environment?

I disagree I have a very short attention span and ive been enjoying eve.

Ive been playing for 3 days but those 3 days been a blast.

Eve kinda reminds me of the model games or the old complex pen and paper games(usualy mech ones).

I love combat but ive spent more time decking out my ship and shoping/traveling for the best deals.

Its a real sci-fi game instead of a game with a sci-fi theme. Alot of thinking and cacluation goes into ur weapon systems.

First day found a Corp with a bunch of trials so were building it up from the ground. Were all different types of players , some are buisness/economy driven, others crafting and a few like me combat and one whose into management.          In other words a sandbox game.

Still learning the combat but from what Ive seen its like most MMOG combat. You got ur debuffs, buffs, healing, DD and AOE.   Its a rush when you got 3 targerts and ur micro managing ur weapons and accesories between em. Not to mention remembering optimal distance of each weapon and keeping away from theres.

Also love exploring and eve gots that in spades. While I was guarding one of our miners I found a old gate that took me to some robots kept. It kept  leading to more and more gates  taking  me to harder and harder robots.  Till I had to run for my life.

Anyways Eve isnt a shallow Game.

Eve == chess

WoW/War/EQ == checkers.

My take is this...

The way someone perceives Eve as a trial / new player comes right back to what they're looking for.

Sounds obvious, yet it's funny how seldom people take a step back and look at the situation objectively enough to notice.

A two-week trial is plenty of time for anyone to figure out if they like Eve or not. Because they're experiencing the game that Eve is in that time.

CCP aren't out to "trick" anyone playing the trial into thinking the game is something it isn't, nor should they. They're giving the player a chance to check it out and see if it's for them.

Beyond that... here's what I notice...

Someone looking for a more casual, faster paced gameplay experience where they can jump in and almost from the start begin to see achievements and rewards come their way is going to log into Eve looking for that kind of experience. And they're not going to find it.

Why? Because Eve isn't that kind of game. All the talk of PvP, mining, manufacturing, corp wars - all those things that they can get into and really do well at down the road means nothing because they're not experiencing anything that's exciting them "right now".

A four week trial isn't going to change that. It's not that the game is "failing to get them hooked".. It's that it's simply not the kind of game that's going to hook them in the first place.

Eve is simply not the game for them. And that's fine.

On the other hand...

Someone coming to Eve who looks at the game, digs through the different menus, reads up on the ways you develop your character, how you can build up fleets of ships, run corps and so forth...  is going to look at that and see nothing but *opportunities*.

There's the potential of all these options they have before them... all the stuff that they can do, goals they can work toward, all while developing their character the way they wish.

They don't care that it takes time to get to where they'd like to go... because to them, the fun is in the experience of getting there.

For that type of person... they might not even need 3 full days to decide they like it; because it's exactly what they were looking for.

In short... for someone looking for a casual-friendly, "log in, do something, log out in 30 minutes" exprience... Eve is not going to be for you.

For someone who's looking for a game world that's wide-open, that provides a ridiculous amount of things you can do and any number of ways you can choose to develop your character and make your mark in the universe - even though it won't happen in a week, or maybe even a month or more - Eve is a giant buffet.

At least that's how I see it.

:-p

If you dont like the concept of driving a ship in space, why even play it in the first place ;)

I think the title of this thread is basically begging for a flame war. The truth is not everyone likes everything. I personally thin WoW is a biggest pile of dog doody in MMOs right now. I think Age of Conan is boring tripe and find Lotro to have a great plot but crap for support and development.

For me the same old, which 99% of MMOs are is dull. EVE for it's steep learning curve and slow reward approach is actually very different in every way from the standard fair of MMO.

I have no doubt that to many it is boring but I also have no doubt that it has a inovative game system and unqiue approach. For some this is a great game and for others not.

Eve doesn't need to be 'boring' as you describe it. In time, you will get tired of losing ships to established groups of players though and the alternative is boring. If you stick with it, it will get to be where you are a part of those established groups and you either pick on the loners or stand off against other established groups, watch events unfold you can't control and get sick of the repetition in that but don't blame Eve because that's the dilema of all Video Games. MMO's become like a console game. It's just more of the same. You can only unlock so many 'hidden' levels before you realize it's the same one you did last time and you can only add so much 'new' content before it feels like the same crap with new paint.

I just left Eve and I won't hate on it more than this because I am not in any MMOs right now. They are all giving me that same old, same old feeling. It just happened to happen while I was playing Eve. Just another MMO.

I couldn't get into Eve.  i tried hard, but I find it very lacking in many aspects especially pve. It could use a lot more.

I found most of my time was flying towards jumpgates, flying towards missions, and mining rocks.

I was also turned off by the skill system.  I would like to actually feel like I'm earning these things in-game.  Kind of took a lot of it out for me.

It's just not a newbfriendly game, but I can see why so many like it.  The endgame pvp looks awesome but I never got that far.

Your not trying hard enough untill your cheating.

i hear you dude i thought it would be fun but first the tutorial was like 4 hours long then the only thing you can do is go mine rocks and sell them till you got enough to buy a better ship. and you train skills by being logged on the skills take 5 hours to level up. then i thought maybe the PvP is fun nope wow i can click then wait till one of us is blowen up. EVE = waste of time

The truly sad part is that someone with no knowledge could read your post and think you actually played the game. if you did play it then you are outright lying and if you did not, oops still a lie.

First the tutorial took me all of about 90 minutes to complete. The ship I left the tutorial with could run basic missions as well as was able to mine, cargo run, the limits where not that great. As for skill trianing to get into some of the more advanced levels it might take 5 hours, I have some serious advanced skills that need DAYS to train, however basic skills mostly train in under and hour for the first level.

If you where playing PVP fresh out of the tutorial you are just p[lain silly, of course it would suck. The same can be said for ANY game other there.

If you do not like EVE that is cool, not everyone likes verything but if you do not like it there is no reason to lie about it to justify your dismay. Just admit the game is not for you and move on. Misinformation however is not cool.

waste of time for you for many it's one very good sandbox game where your free to shape the universe .

of course eve does not hold your hand and tell you what you do but it's a great game for the right person

am a beta eve player so when i see posts like this it boggles my mind how quick kids are to bash games

if you dont like fine we understand but dont call it a waste of time because it isnt maybe runescape was better for you ??

Some people find it too brutal, maybe freeform PVP is not what you were looking for.

Its understandable, not everyone is cut out for it.

I was surprised to find out today just how massively huge the universe is in EVE.  I've been playing for a little while, but this puts it into a greater perspective: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/ombey/Eve_Regions.pdf .

There are about 40k people on at peek time. So you will always find someone to kill.

Lag is a huge problem in EVE. All around it is a very good game. Downside is the metagaming and the scandals that rank around some CCP Members. They "spawned" T2 BPOs and still work at CCP and play the game.
