lolcats are amazing.
About DARDKFAIL, it's not going to happen. And if it does, it will be so bad it will make lolcats cry. And this is very bad. |

It is great on release or it is playable on release? You trolls are amazing.... Last week It was "it will never come out, its vaporware"... this week its "It will suck on release or not come out at all." Way to cover your asses. Please do us all a favor and dont play Darkfall on release, the last thing we need is a bunch of cry babies on the forums because they died and lost all there stuff. Sooner or Later |
Originally posted by TdogSkal That's actually one more reason the game could fail. No one will pay to play it if it actually does release because of it's gameplay style. It's basically just like Asheron's Call 1 on the Dark tide server and no one ever used to play there either.. always empty because of it's hardcore style... It drives people away.. doesn't attract them. Wouldn't it be funny if the game actually launches with everything they say and it ends up failing because of it's style of play? Either way.. Darkfall will never have a huge population because of how they built it. And that may very well be it's final undoing. Irony at it's best. |

except they dont want it to be a pk fest and with the alignmeant system it should help alot. Shadowbane wouldnt have failed if the game had abetter engine and didnt have bad implimation of its features. and thats why allt he ppvp games that have come out since fail is becuase of bad releases or are just pure crap. |

Darkfall does not need a big population. Something along the line of EvE works for me and most other players looking at Darkfall. Also Darkfall has never been prompted as a WOW killer or the next big MMO. It has always been a niche game and it will always be a niche game... Most people that want to play it are hoping that it is the start of bring the MMO genre back from the "Dark Ages" we are currently in. Sooner or Later |

EvE has around 250,000 subs. That is not a large population if you look at other MMO's but it is enough players to make the game feel alive with other players. Sooner or Later |

Being insanely smart isnt the same as having developed a game that fit every playstyle. A niche game like Darkfall with all its features havent been seen since UO went totally carebear february 2003. The demand for a game like Darkfall will of course never be the same as easy mode WoW but for quality seekers like me with earlier experience from hardcore mode MMORPG games will never see WoW and similar games as games to play or get exited over. Those kind of games is just too bad. Have a nice day Aragon - Member of B@D guild |

Originally posted by TdogSkal Yes it does. A game like Darkfall needs a MASSIVE player population to be a success. Otherwise have fun running around stabbing yourself with your sword. This is the biggest reason why Darkfall will most likely fail. Because of poor population numbers. That's exactly why Saga of Ryzom failed too... and it's a perfect example of how having a good game does NOT mean you are going to succeed. |

I'm a little undecided on that subject. I can see that a "mediocre" population will be a problem for Darkfall, precisely because of the supposedly huge seamless world.
It will have to be seen if the developers come up with choke-points, gathering areas, contested areas and the like. If not, it may be as tsitluc says and you will run around a huge world meeting no one. |

Actually, the last thing DF needs is for the community to scare and ostracize potential customers with an unjustified superiority complex and elitism1 like you're doing here, specially if the game is supposed to speak by itself. The way to reward the developers (and by extension improve the health of the game) for their efforts is not by acting unofficial fanboy customs officer, but by getting as many customers as you can and then letting them figure out whether the game is right for them or not. If you want to take it further then volunteer to help get new players acclimated to the playstyle. If people bothered to do that in these types of games then maybe it wouldn't be a niche, it'd be popular enough that you wouldn't have to wait 8 years for a messiah to save you and you'd have more options in games now. Wolves that scare away all the sheep starve. And regarding the vaporware denomination, there are different types of vaporware. If DF falls short of expectations after such a long wait, it's still considered vaporware. 1. See the Vanguard community pre-release. |

That's a large population if you look at other MMOs. WoW is an outlier, of course, but discounting that and only considering other MMOs (except for browser based or free to play), Eve Online ranks as 5th MMO overall with most subs. It has more subs than LOTRO, DDO, COH/V, EQ2, EQ1, etc, pretty much every other relevant MMO. Less subs than Lineage (1 and 2), and FFXI, but those are asian phenomena which is arguably a different market from the west and where the bulk of their subs come from. So EvE's sub base is actually large and very respectable in the grand scheme of things. |

Ah well you learn something new everyday... I though EvE had a small population because it was a niche game. I was wrong. Sooner or Later |

But....DF players are so much -BETTER- than players of any other game. After all, only they have the skills it takes to survive in a truly challenging MMO. People who like other games are poor, pathetic bastards who have no comprehension of true gaming and true skill. Only people who want to venture into the world of Full Looting, free for all PvP can be considered -good- gamers. All others are dust beneath their boots. All other games are beneath their notice or consideration. There is no challenge, unless it is Darkfall!
P.S.: I wholeheartedly agree with you Silvarch. If the community keeps up their elitist attitude, they will ruin the game quicker than a bad launch could. |

What Lie? can you prove they lied? No you can't. Tasos has said many things that never happened but every game goes though that during Developement. Sooner or Later |

I have followed the mmorpg scene since UO. I have played many games and followed too many others to count. Darkfall reminds me alot of Mourning with all the hype and nothing to show. As good as Mourning sounded I did not buy into it. The same goes for Darkfall. If it releases and proves to be good then I will be more then happy to play Darkfall. But until then it is just a bunch of empty promises. |
