Metatronic, if your friend is telling you there are only 5 level 80's on his server your friend is a lier. In fact most people posting on this board at this time have no idea how many people are in the game at this point. But I am in the game on what is supposed to be a low level PVP server (Doomsayer), and on a PVE server(Set). Doomsayer has over 1300 people on Friday nights (that is when I usually get to play). Now remember Doomsayer is quoted as being a low population PVP server. I've posted this before and I'll do it again. If you don't like the game but feel you have to keep posting about it try to at least be honest and stop making things up. I know there are people here that are just hoping for this game to fail, but the fact is there are alot of people still playing and enjoying the game despite what some people would have you believe. |

you can make a player search. but whatever the number on one server is says nothing. I have seen numbers from dozens of servers that were catastrophic. why? because it's so easy to create new chars and level up, people leave empty servers and seek refuge on the most populated server(s). so listing one of the few not empty ones proves nothing. the before / after is interesting. when I started, almost all servers were full or filled quickly. when I left, most were a wasteland |

The failure of AOC is a perfect fit to the failure of Vanguard 1) Overhyped 2) Missing features 3) Buggy 4) Simply not fun

Everything you've said is true except the way you presented it is misleading. You make it seem as if you reviewed FC's AoC, but the fact is what you reviewed is a beta client at best, though more realistically its an alpha client quickly bumped up to release. When looking at and judging AoC you must keep in mind that the game was released WAY TOO EARLY. Its is quite conceivable that had FC held off and released when ready, almost all of your points would be non-existant. Now I'm not excusing FC. Personally I think its long past time a major title and company was allowed to fail because the publishers COUNTED on people saying "All mmo's are bugged when released" and paying for the publisher to continue dev'ing. But still its an important point and shouldn't be missed or forgotten, especially by other production companies: AoC's number one failure and the cause of its decline is that it was released much to early. |

Now whose fault is it when they released it too early? You could serve me a plate of shit right now, and tell me that it might potentially be magically transformed into a piece of steak. However, I'm not paying for this plate of shit right now. |

Great Read.. I agree with the part about the game "just not being fun". I typically start out with one class, then level another to around 30, then go back to the first class. I tried this. I got 4 characters to level 20. The first area is fun, easy,.. and has some point to it. When I left.. The world got blan (I think it was when I tried to swim out of the city and ran into a wall) Before I started playing, I read somewhere that AoC was not truely an open world. This was a huge fear of mine, as I really enjoy open world exploring.. but.. I dismiissed as game hater nonsense. I pre-ordered the CE editon, got a friend of mine to pre-order/play (hard core DAoC fan).. he actually lasted longer than I did. The game would still be the one I'd be playing (right now i"m playing AC, waiting for WAR) if I felt like I was playing with other players. I cancelled before my first month was over. To be honest, the game bugs didn't bother me... it's just.. that the game is boring. The quests are un-imaginitive, the loot is boring and indistiguishable, the classes are kind of unique and different, but none really caught my attention. I don't really llike stealth. Sadly, the game didn't attract the mature audience I was hoping it would, which was also another reason I played (some guy called me an F*****G N****R after I killed his group 3 v 1 a few times.). Sorry, but AoC was a failure in my eyes. Even retaining 200k subs (which, won't be there in a year, mark my words) would be nice, but I don't think it's enough to cover costs. How do you think AoC will weather an actual MMORPG release? I guess we'll see after WAR. Currently playing Real Life.. http://i36.tinypic.com/2uyod3k.gif For all your stalking needs.. |

AoC is a complete failure. The only good thing about AoC is it makes bad games look good. |

Well you can hate the game all you like i enjoy myself and while the chat might be rather silent it sure beats the immature kid trash talk in wow. I remember someone trashing dungeons in AoC but the ones around tortage has been rather cool so far, well less so at heroic solo I guess Funcom made the misstake of misjudging peoples leveling pace and therefore the end game is lacking, not the first time that has happened, anyone remember plane of time in the planes of power expansion for everquest? could not even access it for a long time after release. |

Originally posted by Arington You might be correct if we're talking about an indy or lower budget game. AoC took over 70M USD to produce, from latest reports. A big budget game like this needs a certain amount of subscribers in the first few months to cover production costs. The evidence against AoC having already covered this is more negative, as the company stock has dropped significantly. It will be interesting to see a more accurate subscriber report in September/October. Christmas time reports should exclude all "3-6 month subscribers" that cancelled their accounts and went back to WoTLK or WAR. My estimate is that by the time Noel comes around, the Age of Conan subscriber base will not be over 100K subs. In any case, as Funcom is a somewhat stable company (I think) - the game should fall in line with Vanguard and Tabula Rasa next year. |
