"The dreams of youth are the regrets of maturity."

-The Lord of Darkness from Legend

Is it just me, or does it seem like many ex-DAoC-non-WoW players think they are god's great gift to MMORPGs? It's like they can do nothing but spew derogatory stuff towards WoW-players and claim that they are nothing, but "button-mashing","bunny-hopping" children.

Interestingly enough, DAoC, according to their own testimonies, was more reliant on the group effort and strategy than anything else; doesn't this imply that individual ability was more emphasized in WoW?

Following strategies and obeying orders is easier to do than playing one's class effectively, so it should be expected that WoW players that had mastered arena have more twitch, strafing and coordination in their little pinkies than DAoC's hate-mongers have collectively.

Seriously, why is it that most of the WAR closed beta videos usually involve keyboard-turning, skill-clicking people with the reflexes of a sloth? I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that a lot of beta testers are ex-DaoC players?

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

Agree with you...

Is human nature, people NEED to feel better than other people, all you can do is BASH them back.

how ? with facts, for example: You momma is so fat... J/K

Anyway don't worry about it, I never played DAoC but I have been playing WoW for 4 years and I can only tell you this, I will be the first RvR player to Solo a siege RAMBO STYLE !

1. Hating WoW players makes you popular. FACT.

2. Have you ever seen the WoW community? It's pathetic.  "LOLPWN OWNED J00"  "STFU N00B!!"  It's like counter-strike only slower.  Compare the WoW community to any other MMO community. In fact, I recommend comparing it to the LotRO community.  Yes yes you can say you don't like LotRO, "it's a bad game",  "it's slow", whatever, not the point here. Go look at the forums.  Go to the suggestions forums in WoW, and then open up another tab and go to the suggestion forums in LotRO.  I think the findings will speak for themselves.

3.  The WoW community is unique in that it is the largest online game community to not only hate the developers with a passion, but also believe that they, the players who know nothing of the work that goes into this, know what is best for the game.

The nine most terrifying words are: I''m from the government and I''m here to help. -Reagan

Well I have played both DAoC (about 4 years total time) and WoW (about 3 years total time) and I would agree that DAoC players will have an advantage in WAR over WoW only players.  WAR (just like DAoC) is a stragedy game focused on group combat, WoW is not.  WoW focused primarily on solo PVP ability and the Ability to lockdown the other player and kill them.  This isn't possible in WAR.

While playing in the Preview weekend you could spot WoW players very easily.  I had quite a lot of Swordmasters who kept hopping around me thinking it gave them sometype of advantage.  I guess they didn't understand that they couldn't trigger a "you can't see the enemy" response and negate an attack.  In WAR your character autofaces while attacking, so strafing, circling, bunny hopping, etc are all useless.  So is speed of button pushing since there is a global cooldown for skills.  If you try to push them to fast you end up screwing yourself instead of going faster.

Overall they just aren't the same style of game.  WoW PVP is based primarily on jumping around the person and crowd control.  WAR RvR is based on group dynamics and techniques.

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

In general, daoc is a harder game to play than wow, pvp wise obviously. To play a caster in daoc, you need to be good at positioning and pre kiting, due to daoc's very harsh interupt system. You don't really need that in wow (plus you can't really pre kite too well, with warrior shaving intercept and rogues having sprint etc)

Also, due to daoc's open world rvr (large terrioty) many tactics have been developed over time as the game changed. Tank assist train, split assist trains, extending etc etc, due to confined space of arena and different game mechanics, wow has rather limited amount of tactical variance or counters to certain group make ups.

Also, since arenas are always the same, it's natural that good arena players imply developed tactics that work very well in the arena setting, in daoc you didn't know where you would run into enemies, and so the tactics were more dynamically varied and in general, you would adapt faster (or die =p) to new or changing situations, you could also get added on, and so would need to be more perceptive of your enviroment, where as in arena it's always 5v5 or whatever, no need to worry about a sudden add and how to react to it.

With that said, both games have thousands of players (or in case of wow millions) as such bad players will be found in both games. People who are turning with keyboard in war, likely weren't all that great in daoc either (although, I turn with keyboard in daoc, not sure why but I can't seem to make the mouse work in daoc like it does in wow or war =p)
