Everquest. I wish I could get that feeling back. So many years on that game and so many times when I look for a new MMO and everything fails, I just fall back on all the excellent times I had on that game. I know this topic has been done a million times, but its always nice to read it, because if you weren't thinking of your first mmo earlier, you probably are now. And your probably smiling because it was so good.

WoW is done with, it's just too boring.. Most other mainstream MMO's have been played.. So what do we do? Wait for War? Wait for some new MMO that promises fun but fails to deliver? Or do we scrape up all the hopeful thoughts in our heads that just MAYBE we can go back in reverse and go back to the old and try them again..

Yes, when I first played an mmorpg (also Everquest), it was all new and I enjoyed the complexity and the community.
My second mmorpg (Pre-cu SWG) took that even further and I loved that game to bits.

Unfortunately all complexity seems to have been scraped from the market, and games are largely tailored to the instant gratification crowd.

I still hold high hopes that Darkfall will bring back that feeling (bring on the Vapourware claims....).

Somehow I knew in hell there would be mushrooms.

I always enjoy reminiscing about MMO experiences.. I wish I could go back to my early days of lawless UO, or the overhwelming experience that was wandering around Vana'diel for the first time. I do not beleive in going back to those games, though- I beleive the best way to try and find that experience again is to become an MMO nomad, jumping from game to game until it returns. Going back has always been disappointing for me, and I hate feeling that way over games I used to love to death. That happened to me with EVE online, I had forgotten how much I missed the sandbox and unforgiving PVP aspects, then went back and just couldn't have fun.

So far, for me atleast, most of these new games have been a good substitute, but no where near as diverse and mesmerizing as my originals.

WAR is not my salvation after what I have experienced with it so far, but like WoW, like Guild Wars, like every other MMO I have played recently, it will be decent filler until I find the next game that brings me back to that state of wonder. I haven't felt like a complete newbie in a game for years now, because they are so similar in design. "If you've played MMOs before, you'll have no problem playing ours" is getting old to me..

In few years we will have even more topics like this but then of all the exWoW players who say the same about there first mmoprg , but then it will be 100 times more who wanne say this millions and millions of first time mmo players from WoW asking for there first experience to comeback:P

And in few years when they speak of the old days, it will not be before WoW era, but the start of new era when WoW was first launch millions will claim thats when the mmo online era started:p

Mark my words:)

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

Well, it won't ever happen, because your first MMO was such a totally new experience for  you, and every game you've played since has more or less been the same game only with more refinement.

So in the end, you are playing the same game over and over  for the most part.

To get around this, you have to play  a game that really steps out of the box, but sadly, these are hard to find.

There has been no fantasy MMO's since DAOC (actually,  my second game, with Lineage 1 being the first ) that has given me the feeling you are describing, and WAR won't do it either.

However, that said, I started playing EVE over a year ago and low and behold, there's that  feeling again.  Why? Because it plays so much different than a fantasy game.

So sure,if someone creates a truely different game experience, you might have a shot a recapturing the magic, otherwise I suggest taking a long vacation from MMO's (couple of years) and when you come back they'll feel fresh again.

Don't worry sonny you'll get over your first love someday.  You're 23 you still have a lot of growing up to do.  You probably don't even know what true love is. LOL

My first mmo was runescape and after runescape, silkroad, I loved playing them at the time but. I look back on runscape and silkroad and think...Well i don't think about them because they are the sh**est games I ever played. I must say though since those two i have never been able to get into another mmo, i think they cast some disease upon me. But yes I am waiting for WAR and i hope it lives up to all i have read about it (no not what I have read about it on these forums). And to be honest NO i don't want that feeling again, the feeling was stupid and irrational only when looking back do you see how much time you actually spent thinking/playing about that first mmo addiction, gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
