I'd say play the expansion, since you'll still play through the content of the original. The expansion adds a bunch of new items and tweaks which you'll enjoy right from level 1. |

Ok. This game is pretty fun for an old ass game. I been a Bualders Gate type of person. I picked Asassin, is there a site out there where I can find a good build?

Try Diabloii.net, they should still have some good stuff on the forums and guides section. |

Diabloii.net does have a bunch of builds on their guide site, but many of them are badly outdated. Some of the sin builds there are outright crap. dii.net is a great source of information, but your best bet is to hit up the class-specific forums there, not the guides section. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I hate to say it, but it's very likely you will end up gimping yourself in one way or the other with your first character. If you don't recall, Hell difficulty plays very differently from normal or NM, so basing your build on early experience can sometimes be catastrophic later on. That's what tends to screw newer players. If you really like sins, some variety of trapsin is probably the most viable build overall for the harder parts of the game. Don't get me wrong. You _can_ use MA for offense, but it's a bit more tricky, and your overall capability for damage will be kind of lackluster for group games. I'm not sure what you mean by whether to play D2 or the xpac first. You definitely want to install LoD if you have it, since 800x600, while not great, is a pretty big improvement over 640x480. If you do have the xpac installed, you will have to go through Act 5 to get to the next dif level, so you don't have much of a choice of whether you want to go through that content. |

I'll echo what was already said, because there's no reason not to install both. You play from level 1 and all the content from D2 anyways. The best reason to install the expansion also is the resolution upgrade in my opinion. I recently tried playing D2 again, but I couldn't find my expansion CD, so I tried to just play D2 in 640x480. It's downright painful to look at on a 40" widescreen in 1920x1080... so I'm still looking for my expansion disc before I try playing it again.

Ok, I will look into that. Do you think a build of 2 str / 2 dex / and 1 vit is good? Also i checked out that site and it's hard to find what ya lookin for. Don't feel like signing up until I at least get a good start in the game. -In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. Passed away on Aug/13/08- |

Never played a sin in D2, i tend to stick with druid and necro, and I usualyl do one of each when the ladder resets, have not done it this time though, ( ladder was reset just a couple of weeks ago ). I usually take them close to 90 before I stop.. ;) Most builds go for VIT all the way, with just enough points in dex and str to get gear on,. You just can not have enough HP, mana is nice, especially as a trapsin, but gear and pots will get you that easily enough. Most sorcerers does not invest in mana even. An "insight" merc will essentially mean you are never out of mana if you play a class that uses it, that is a cheap runeword you can build and give to your ACT 2 merc <- important, act 2 merc is the way to go. Check battle.net/diablo2exp for runewords, and other stuff, no builds though. Important thing is to know ahead what skills you want to invest in, wasted points will gimp you a lot. On the other hand, finding it out for yourself can be great fun just realise once you hit hell you will indeed have hell to get trough. D2 is one of them games were you can get extremely overpowered with the right gear ( this usually means runewords ) and the right skill build. Witch to me is one of its best features. Actually, I think it is time to get in on the new ladder just about now.. ;)

2 str / 2 dex / 1 vit? Yeah, I actually start most of my sins that way, but I tend to go MA if I do play a sin, which isn't too popular. I mostly make them just for a change. If you're making a trapsin, that much strength or dex may not really be necessary. I can't tell you specifics since I haven't built a trapsin. That won't hurt you if you only do it in the early levels, though, regardless of build. You need strength and dex for wearing gear, so provided your stat path has you hitting the stat requirement at about the same time you meet the level requirement for an item, you're good. Eventually, though, even with a MA build, there will come a point where you may want to stop pumping dex and str and simply go all vitality. If this is a MA build, though, that point is probably coming in the 60's or 70's, so you shouldn't worry about it if that's the case. I honestly don't recommend going MA sin for your first character. MA sins are, in general, one of the most ability-intensive classes. To play it properly, you will need to be rapidly switching between several different abilities, and if you screw up even slightly on Hell dif, you will die. In return for this effort, you will still be far less effective than a hammerdin or meteorb, simply because you're forced to operate in melee range and your raw damage output will still be much lower. Also, if you're going to be a kicker, do some research early on, as that requires a very specific kind of build and gear layout. If you're going claw, which I really wouldn't recommend, remember that Dragon Claw is bugged, and this bug will never be fixed. It doesn't actually apply charge-up bonuses to both strikes. Just remember that D2 is not a MMORPG where all classes are pretty much 90% the same, and people gripe about the 5% difference in DPS or some shit. At this point, what's broken will stay broken, and some things are simply better than others. |
