Because people still have fun playing it. Because it is possible to play more than one game. Because it is possible to enjoy more than one game. Because they have the funds to keep it going. Because it doesn't matter that you 'wish wow fails'. Because every game that has been set to compete with WoW has failed. Because WAR is a good game, but so is WoW. IMO, and in 11 millions others minds. Because people have time invested, and a lot of it. Because some of my friends still play it, and so do some of yours. Because those of us having fun playing WoW could care less about the back and forth flamewars between fanbois on sites like this....
The only thing that will effect WoW's subscriber base is it's subscribers becoming bored with the game and moving on. Every day there are still new players coming in, and last time I was on, the bg's were full and the landscape was happening.
For all you nubs claiming mental superiority over WoW players... are you bloody serious??? LOL IT'S A GAME, JUST A GAME, AND ONLY A GAME. If you seriously put yourself higher on the intellectual ladder because you play one game over another...you have issues....

Originally posted by Krogg It's just the WoW reputation. For instance: Blizzard lets you link skills in chat channels, so a Warrior could link [Pummel] - one of his skills. So what does the mature WoW community do? They go and say "anal" in the chat channel and link skills after it. So trade is flooded with 10 year olds going "Anal [Pummel]" like they just learned a new dirty word. I'm sorry, it's pathetic. You're right though, I want both games to succeed because they're both fun and the more competition/variety we have in ANY game genre, the better for us. Competition means both companies want to do their best. |

Why you care about a subs? You feel discomfort that will not feel WoW so great if subs drop? Don't worry subs talks only about a commercial product not for a valuable one. The main reason WoW to have so much subs is that he is almost no not a massive, but just a multiplay. Is it ok for you? |

Worst case scenario: Wow drops a few of it's 9 million servers, and combines them. Problem solved.

WoW is a 2 headed monster.
In one hand it has risen the "quality" (and i put that in quotes because when you really look, there isn't much depth to the game, although thats nearly any MMO) of what we expect from games.
In the other however, because of the "sucess" of its sales and subscriptions, and hear me, I do not say sucess of the game, it has "pushed" the MMO industry into a one dimensional world. The sucess of WoW nearly purely stems from 2 sources.
1) It's a social networking game. The Facebook/Myspace of video games. 2) It's Blizzard.
Anyway, the only danger I see to the game is Kalgan. |

You forgot to add something, maybe the fact that most of WoWs subs are farmers, gold sellers, or bots and its a simple game with alot of popularity. And also when you say every game has failed that has tried to compete against WoW,... I would like to tell you THAT IS BS. if everygame has failed that tried to compete with WoW we wouldn't have any other mmos, and this website would be called WoW not mmorpg. heres some games as proof that every game hasn't failed: 1.CoH/CoV 2. LOTRO 3. Tabula Rasa 4. Guild Wars 5. just look at the list of mmos in the released section of the website. |

Bruticus_XI: In a game like this the community is so vast we might as well be talking about the global community minus a few developing nations, hence there is no real definable 'WoW' community, just all types of people playing, and that includes the people who would participate in the text play you are talking about. And from experience I think it's safe to say there are assholes in every game.
Izakaron: This thread was my response to another thread.
DJSmiley: Please don't put words into my mouth or interpret ideas I haven't even touched on. Not once did I equate failure with subscription loss. I just said the sub #'s are safe, and even if they shift I agree, it doesn't mean the game has failed...noone could ever say that about the game anyway.
Deckatre: The only competition those games offered was in the hype. When I say compete, I'm talking Coke and Pepsi... WoW has no Pepsi.
TBH I'd rather the WoW pop played LOTRO right now, I love that game as well. I'm not a die hard fan of WoW, I just wanted to counter all the posts I see about the game going down. Yeah it's pointless, and it's beyond a dead horse, but I have insomnia and this helps bore me to sleep. goodnight. |
