Since Mythic decided to hand out the war lions from the "special" pen, I must say, it is very hard to judge just how good a White Lion is in this game.

It seems as though this class is about as well armored as a Marauder.  Probablyu better than one.  The Lion itself seems useless at first due to it's "special" aproach to things.  However the lions damage is equal to the players.  I tested on quite a few NPCs between levels 1 - 10 and noticed that my lion, when it actually decided to attack, would kill its targets at about the same time I did.  Many times it would beat me in the kill.  I really like this.  I'm sick of low dps pets in MMO games.

Comparing to the squig herder, Engineer, and Magus, the White Lion still seems to have the lowest DPs of them all.  I just don't know with this class.

The best part about the class so far is that at level 1, you look like a house maid who just snapped and went postal!

For me the main concerns about pet profession is with colision dectection.  They already have problems with pathing, with colision detection i dont see how anyone would be able to play a pet profession in pvp...

Personally, when I tested it (I didn't get very far, only to level 10 or so) the biggest frustration I had was how unreliable the pet AI seemed.  Whenever I traveled any significant distance the little critter would get lost it seems.  Maybe it's because it's one of the last classes they through together, but my squigherder's squig did similar things as far as getting lost all the time.

It could be on my end because my internet connection has been a little screwy lately, but I haven't had this sort of issue with pets in other MMOs.

I'll still buy the game, because there are plenty of other classes that work just fine for me to play until they fix those two.

I found the Squig to be responsive and the turrent classes to be flawless.  The War Lion is really retarded compared to the other critters in game.  This unreliable pet really made it hard for me to tell just how good this class can be.  I know without a doubt that the Squig herder and the Engineer are going to be great classes, but White lion is all over the place.

In PvP, I found the war lion died extremely fast, but it was WAY more responsive.

The white lion is actually a great class in PvP if you figure out how to use the Lion properly and know your strenghts & weeknesses.   White Lions aren't meant to go walking up to a Maruader, they are how ever a caster's worse nightmare.

The pet pathing / Ai is a recent bug introduced a few days before the Preview Weekend before that the pathing for pets was excellent and they were responsive.  Since then they're unrepsonsive and unreliable using it as an excuse that pet classes are gimped in someway is retarded atleast from a beta tester's PoV thats been testing the game for longer than 2 weeks.

(2) Monster Pathing and AI – Well, what can I say other than not even all of King Tut’s wealth could have made us feel better for messing up on this one. Well, maybe all his wealth. ?
- “Yes, that monster seems to be behaving a little oddly”. Monster responsiveness was very sketchy, odd pauses and tethering issues.
- “Oh, was I supposed to go in that direction?” Pathing sometimes wonky - mobs get stuck or go in wrong direction.
- Utter confusion at times as both monsters and pets will engage and disengage seemingly at random
- Internal server optimizations last week broke the pathing/AI. And I mean really, really broke it. This truly was a “Opps, we broke this code” moment for us and we don’t have many of them.
- Going to ensure that this problem is fixed this week. As I said in my first Preview Weekend, this is a major concern for us. Fortunately we have no underwater combat in this game or some of the NPCs may have been appropriately dubbed land sharks.

(3) Pet ResponsivenessWith similar issues to Monster Pathing and AI, this was not our finest hour.
- Need to transfer "combat responsiveness" fixes to pets - have pet move immediately on button press.
- “Oh no, Mr. Bill!” Pets suffer from same pathing and lack of response as general monsters. Pets hopping around like they were headed to Del Staters.

When I played my White Lion, the pet was bugged half the time. My DPS was still through the roof in RVR and scenarios. I played until 15 and at which I thought the pet was doing most of the damage. After I spec'd into the Hunter mastery and got Centuries of  War tactic (a 5 second dot that triggers 25% of attacks, so its basically a perma-DoT) PLUS my morale ability that does around 500+ (depending on RVR or scenarios then it is more) every minute, I was very very good in PVP and PVE.  At least top 3 in all scenarios for DPS even when pet would bug out, but pet doesn't bug out as much in scenarios as in open world at all.

From what I've seen, the squid herder does far less damage than a White Lion. I haven't played the class or know any of the moves, but this is my speculation from watching them in scenarios and PVP. I know for a fact the engineer is NOT better at DPS, the Magus probably is. The only downfall is that all three of the classes you mentioned can be completely ranged, but a White Lion at melee range is very deadly. I was able to pull off many 1v1s in RVR areas, losing only to DoKs and sometimes Shamans. I completely destroyed tanks, all ranged DPS, melee DPS and Zealots.

I have become a fanboi of this class, but in no way am I exaggerating what I have said. After spending 30+ hours on a level 15 character, all this info is accurate from my experience.

The pet pathing and AI was so broken in Peview Weekend that it was impossible to evaluate the class. I'm definitely going to give it another chance in Open Beta.
