I am a long time MMO'er. I was there when UO hit, and beta tested EQ I. I love them.

I am now a father of three boys (one 8 and twins that are 2.5). Many of the games that have been released in the last 10 years require you to have a good block of time to do anything worth while. Hunting for a raid group (Or any group) for 2 hours to hit a raid or quest that takes 30 minutes or 6 hours just doesnt work for me. I have to be able to jump in be able to crush some skulls (or kill fuzzy bunnies) and get some XP, finish a quest, make something, etc then step out for a bit. When the kiddies are counting sheep i have more time, but durring the waking ours i get a hour here or there.

Does WAR allow for someone with a hour here or there in availible time to jump in and do something productive?

The short answer is YES. There are many battlegrounds and other RvR related activities for each teir and they are all releveant to the endgame. So you can have fun at any level range all the way to 40. This isn't a game designed to grind or suffer to max level to get to the fun stuff.

Yes, there's always something to jump into for whatever time you have. HOWEVER! Beware, you may wish to spend most of your waking hours playing!

Oh and the thing I really liked is that you could be exploring the realm, finishing up a massive PQ, or just questing about and decide you want a change of scene, well you qunue up for a war scenario and bam! You're in a huge pvp battle and return right where you were after. So much better than sitting around in a war room waiting. Although in truth its better to go out of your way before entering the battle just to find a village nearby, and be able to turn in the quest for that scenario.

You can tell when you play it, the MAIN focus is on casual players that don't have a lot of time on their hands. Almost every aspect of the game allows you to pick you and instantly play for 20mins and log off. You don't have to go to anyone for PvP battlegrounds like mentioned, public quests are always nearby and you can join them as soon as you enter them. You don't have to wait until its over to get in on them or anything, just have a lower chance to get an item on the rolling system if you come late.

And all of the PvE quests are most like quick chores. They don't take up much time, they are fast and fun. So yeah, you can keep doing RvR quests over and over if you are in a bind for time or you can explore and do quests if you have a little more time on your hands. It's a lot more casual that even WoW is.

It should. The game does have grind and such. It is a MMO, afterall, but the way it makes groups passive, rather than active, is a welcome change. Instead of shouting out how much you'd like a group, you can just pop a window open and it'll show you all the groups in your area and what they are doing, whether it is RvR, PQ, or PvE, and then you can choose to join whichever you want, without having to stand around waiting.

PQ's are totally open and you can join them in progress whenever you like, without having to join a group. RvR is simply running into a RvR area marked on the map and joining others in there. Scenarios are a click of a button by your minimap and are 15 minute long battles.

This game seems to be the most casual-centric game I've seen in some time.

The only thing that comes close to WAR as far as being casual goes is Guid Wars

Be careful when you fight the trolls, lest you become one.

I think that mmo´s was for people with no life?.

You can play it either casual or hardcore. Either way you contribution to the gobal warfare for you side.

I wouldn't call all that stuff casual-centric. I'd call it user-friendly.

For another busy person like myself, how would you rate the addiction factor on a scale from 1-10?

Current: WoW
Played: EQ, DAoC,EQOA,Shadowbane,WoW, WAR, SW:TOR

I am married and have a little girl on the way so I didn't think I would be able to play anything besides EVE or Guild Wars anymore, but after playing this game I know I can play this without worrying about having to spend hours to get anything done.  It's perfect for someone with a busy life.

Gear is what made WoW un-friendly to the casual player.

Yeah you could login for a couple hours after work during the week, but that was never enough to really compete.  It will be the same with WAR won't it?  Once a lot of end game content opens up there will be A LOT of very heavily geared hardcore players, as there always is.

I'm not saying this is necessaryily bad or anything, but that's what I see as the major contributor to casual friendly/unfriendliness.  So if I don't put in the long hours, I will get more or less rolled right?  It's what I expect.  I wish otherwise though.

I love the depth and skill it takes to play mmo characters, but they all always seem to end up coming down to who puts the most time in.

it is a 10, in all honesty unless is a mandatory busy life or you are strongly discpline you find it hard not to play for hours, but you can achieve or accomplish somehting in as little as 15 mins.

a few things of interest for you family guys

first) your kids wont ask you why that headless corpse is a blood fountain or why that lady is topless and shaking her tits in this game like they did with conan, you can let junior watch you play and its not over the top gore or nudity, but its still very fun.  on the violence part its def pg 13 at worst so its your call on letting the kids see you kill poeple.

second) as said by others you can play 20 min or 20 hours at a time, its fun either way and youll have a blast, just be carefull not to get too addicted, it has the potential of making you forget just how longs passed since you logged on to whoop ass and take names hehe
