WAR (Warhammer Online)

      Quick background been playing these games for a long time. Kinda telling my age I guess. Been playing Pc games since Commodore 64, Started playing MMOs since Evercrack. Played that for awhile branched over to SWG played that till NGE came out and been homeless since. Played EQ2, Lineage 2, COH, EVE, GW, SOR, TR, AOC. I even bought the collectors edition of AOC what a waste of money. Been totally not feeling MMOs anymore. My buddy bought me a copy of WAR pre order. After playing for 9 hours on Friday and 6 hours on Saturday. I must admit I hope this game doesn't do a 180 degree turn on me. Man I tried four different classes. Two of destruction and two of order and I cant say I had that much fun in a MMO in a very long time.

     Each class had a distinct story line, the RvR was awesome, the public quests are sensational. I hope this game doesnt change. These developers hit the mark spot on. I bought a $2500 gaming rig for AOC. I had massive CTD all the time for no particular reason. I have a quad intel core, 4gb patriot ram, 2x8800gt  512mb sli overclocked, and 1tb hardrive space raid 0, 24 inch widescreen LCD, vista 32  and knew it wasn't my hardware. Playing War I kept waiting for it to happen to me but it never did. I'm not a warhammer fan. I don't know anything really about it but I must say I'm learning now. Sep 18 is not coming soon enough. Well see everyone on launch day because I have just found a new home.

I agree, Warhammer Online is quite a game.s.  I'm gonna be sad when the preview weekend is over :(

I'm hoping to get into the game sometime hopefully by tomorrow.

The client's been downloading for 2 Days, 11 Hours now according to bittorrent - non-stop, uninterrupted.

I *really* don't know what they were thinking making this the only means of acquiring the beta client. 

A 9 gig file should not take over 2 days to download, ever. Not like I'm on a 14.4 modem or anything.

Hell, I downloaded the Vanguard beta client - over 20 gigs... and it only took about 7 hours. At the time, that seemed really long to me.. But to think I could have downloaded VG almost 8.5 times in the time it's taking WAR to download... and I've still got just over 3hrs left to go - assuming the DL rate don't drop.

I usually go as high as 200kB + on BT downloads. I've seldom gone over 50 on this client.

Poor thinking on Mythic's part, IMO.

But I've already got a couple race/class combos I'm itching to check out as I happily run around trying to break Mythic's game

Oh... and to the OP... "old-school" Commodore Vic-20 gamer here as well :-p.

What you should do is get a character to 3-5, get some skills, then join scenarios immediately. You'll be hooked.

I have really high hopes for this game also,  mainly looking forward to PVP that has more meaning to it than needing  to do it for badges and honor so i can grind for some gear that i need because the game is so gear driven.

The only thing i was hoping for that doesnt seem to be in the game is a more meaningful crafting system, but who knows what will be down the road .. right now i cant wait for some meaning full PVP  

I read a post just like this during the AoC early access.  Actually I read more posts like this about AoC than subscribers it currently has.

Welcome to the grim, terrible and humorous world that is Warhammer.    Investigate the table-top miniature game only if you have lots of disposable income :)

Odd most of the posts I remember from the AoC early access were people who were shocked the game was being released so soon.  

But you have a point, all the previews and early test are less important than the state of the game one month after release.</
