"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin |
I saw this post in another thread and copied it over here as to not hijack it. Originally posted by Dreadlich Old school DAOC players will remember that realm-wide armies were not really zergs. There generally were people on each side that rose up to be the defacto realm commanders who would actually manage to work with sub-commanders, guild leaders and what not to coordinate the goals, objectives and battles of the entire battle force. No one gave them this authority, they just sort of took control and for the most part, everyone went along and supported their leadership. But the amazing thing was, it was all done w/o any sort of voice coms. All commands and orders were relayed via text chat in region or realm windows and it worked surprisingly well. But this is a new era, and IMO many players have never really used text chats to coordinate an army. (it can be done folks, trust me). So how will today's realm commanders coordinate the movement of the entire realm? Wil they set up special voice servers that will be by private invite to key guild and squad leaders? (Perhaps war has in-game voice chat that can be used?) Or will they need to draw on the technology of old and learn to communicate to the greater realm population via text chats. I'm sure by now people in WAR have some experience running in the large, open world PVP and I'd be very interested to know what they've observed regarding realm wide combat coordination. Has it really just been a zerg, where the mass of players runs together, but uncoordinated or are players already stepping up and using new and old tech to turn the realm army into an effective fighting force?

As with other games that require it, it will be done with a combination of teamspeak and text commands. I don't foresee any great problems, once people understand the game mechanics it will only take a few choice text words to co-ordinate the realm for those interested in team work. For those not interested in working together communication and method are irrelevent. |

Ventrillo for the win. Text chat takes way to long and smaller guilds that use voice chat will control the battlefield |

Sorry but don't agree with this. I take it you have never played a game using only text chat, because it is equally fast and sometimes faster if you know what your doing. It just take practise. :) |

I agree with you Vort. Many players don't appreciate how efficient text chat can be and has been in the past. They have no experience, and no, smaller guilds will not control the battlefield. The realm war is won by the side that best coordinates the activities of the entire realm, which I suspect only old school DAOC players would truly understand.

Be careful when you fight the trolls, lest you become one. |

Brilliant idea, when that "ONE" guy failed epic then we can all blame him for his mistake. Why do you think there is so many WoW raid guild there progress so slow and why do you think there is so much drama in each guild?. Because there is one emo dude there wanna be in control of everything. |

I play EVE and have fought in coordinated fleets of 400. And I guess you never played DAOC where Realm command would coordinate activities of 200+ people across multiple zones to take control of relic keeps or stop the enemy from getting away from them. Shadowbane was still small scale PVP compared to DAOC's RVR, and my feeling is most of today's gamers have never experienced | |
