Following this game closely. I hope they do a good job and dont ruin the ST property the way other mmos have ruined their ips. (AoC, SWG, MXO)

Very interested in this myself.  Good, brief interview.

By the by, did anyone else notice he said Champions would be shipping next spring?  Would be nice if that holds true.

I remember in the Vegas webcast Jack used  champions as an example to show how easy and quick it will be to develop STO seeing they both use the same engine all his team would really need to do is add Star trek content, he said ..."Lets say champions online is released in April, we would expect STO to be released soon after.

Back to this interview, Jack saying that STO may well share certain features from Tabula rasa and Hellgate is rather worrying...both games have a third person shooter perspective do they not?

Don't know if you can run it?

STO is third person perspective if you watch the new trailer, like 99% of most mmos.

I finally got a chance to watch the second half. What is this word "aquired" that they keep using?

Jack is either very ignorant of game development or is being dishonest about how much of Perpetual's stuff they are using. Saying they can knock out a game from the day they get the license because they have an engine is not very accurate is it? He talks as if a game of this size and scope needs no pre-production, concepting, storyboarding, etc- it's obvious from everything they've released and said so far that they are using much of the work PE laid before them, with a few tweaks for good measure.

The interview itself was interesting - but someone should have paid more attention to what was going on in the background.  Check out the guy in the kilt who makes an appearance at 4:10 - and keep on watching until the real fun starts around 5:50.

If anybody has an interest in this game, go check out the opinions of the players who dealt with him as a developer over on the City of Heroes forums.  He's pretty universally hated by everyone who had to cope with his decisions.  Don't take my word for it, check yourself.

Personally, I'll never buy another game with his name attached to it, and I'll drop any game that he gets a dev job at like a hot rock, but that's just my experiance.

PS.  Benzetta, was the guy putting his comb away at 5:50 all that much real fun?

I met him three years ago for a job interview and he was a complete pr ck through the entire interview.  I will never buy another product if he worked on it.

Some people dislike some of Emmert's decisions, true. But he isn't 'universally hated'.
