I have yet to figure out how people who panhandle for free trials and trial keys can afford a computer and Internet connection to begin with.

The term is misleading.  The schedule should not be termed as open beta because you need to pre-order to get a key.

I've read that Sept 17 will be the start of open beta. So this means it's a public open beta and not a private one?

The term "open beta" is very, very oftenly misused.

Open beta actually means that there is no NDA, it has nothing at all to do with how you get in.

Closed beta means there is an NDA of some sort, it has nothing at all to do with how you get in.

Pay Gamestop the 5 freaking dollars to play, jesus.

Hm. Basic definition time.

Open Beta - Meaning that information about the game is freely available during the beta phase, ie. people can claim how great or crappy the game is without having to worry about being under a NDA.

Closed Beta - Meaning that information is not freely available except through approved media outlets that showcase what the developers want seen. NDA is in full effect.

Public Beta - Where any retarded kid with a computer can login and play the game, without any worry about anything beginning with an 'N' and able to do what they want however they want because they won't play the game once it is released anyway. (My apologies for offending any people with learning disabilities out there).

With that in mind, realize you're not going to get to play the game because you aren't attempting to contribute to the game, either by getting accepted to beta test or by pre-ordering. And if you pre-ordered the SE, then you need to be one of the first 50,000 people to sign  up for an account. Which is quite a bit, especially since 60,000 people signed up for the CE. Good luck and for those who didn't get in, honestly? Piss off and quit whining. If you pre-ordered, I'm sorry you weren't one of the lucky ones. If you didn't pre-order and were looking for a free ride, look elsewhere because you won't like this game anyway.

No, Mythic said clearly that they define open beta as a beta without NDA but the amount of people would be limited.  It would had been missleading, if they didn't say it clearly.

I think I would have left that part out.  Altho what the OP is stating is not how Mythic defined it.

The little letter I got in my email today clearly states that even when NDA is lifted its not really lifted.  I'm not sure if they would frown on the email being pasted in here.. but I've never seen on like this before.

Tester may discuss a, b and c but not 1-9 of sub paragraph b... and no I'm not making this up tho it was not exactly these words but close enough for the moment.

I'm sure others must have gotten this email...

Its an email that talks about the NDA lifting but that you are still under a beta tester agreement (bta).  That the BTA still basicly holds you under an NDA and then goes on to list a bunch of crap you still can't talk about.

The only reason I mention this.. is this open beta is NOT without NDA... actually.. its just a more relaxed NDA.

I really can honestly say I've never seen anything like this...  I've seen NDA's that were never lifted.. but not a letter like the one I got today.

i just read the email and from my understanding..only those testing endgame content fall under NDA. Players are allowed to speak about everything that doesn't pertain to elder test server.

Yeah, if you're not a member of the Elder Testing team, then you don't really need to worry about the NDA. The other stuff is that you can't let others use your account to gather information. Pretty basic stuff.

Your perception is misleading you.  You assume that by "open beta" they meant open-to-the-general-public beta, and that is not the case at all.

If you preorder, you can get into the open beta.  The beta is open to those who preorder -- and since ANYONE CAN preorder -- if they want to -- by definition, it becomes an open beta.

If you don't want to preorder, that is your decision, but you COULD preorder if you choose to, making the beta OPEN to you.  Your choice, your decision.

Now -- go away.

Everyone had the chance to get into open beta if they were fast enough to either buy the one of the 60K CE's or to register there key for the first 50K of SE. That is more then enough for Mythic to achieve the goals of an OPEN BETA TEST!!! Which is what it is If you did not get into it that is unfortunate but you and everyone else will benefit from the hard work of the testers who made all the bug reports and noted all the issues to the dev to have them fixed before release. If all you are looking for is a free test spin of the game then wait for a buddy pass. This time is for testing not demo’s.

The 50k SEs are for the preview weekend. I think that everyone who preordered the SE will get into Open beta September 7th. That gives people a week of open beta to try it some and then early access will be 3ish days to try it for real. Open beta will still be part of testing just not for bugs mainly but stress test on servers. for those people really interested in WAR they will get into open beta for a week no matter hwta cause those people will most likely have already preordered.

It is you who are clouded. Open beta is commonly used to refer to a public access. It should be called early access beta because it's a beta with a catch.

Now i used "commonly" which doesn't mean the ultimate meaning.

Stop posting in this thread and go play WAR since you already have access.

It is you who are trying to define anything the way you like it.  Open beta is a term without an official definition, and the technical process of beta testing software differs from company to company, and is evolving over time.  Says who you are the one to define what open beta means?  Who are you?  Nobody.

Mythics has the right to design how to beta test its product.  They have already clearly announced the way they are going to do it.  They do not owe you free access to the game.  Mythics bypassed you in selecting the early entrants?  Oh so you log on here and cry?  Come on, grow up.  The beautiful girl next door ignores you and go date with your classmate.  Why don't you come here and post another thread?

Since you already know that it is "commonly", then you should know that every company differs.  Why must Mythics be common, no its is not common, nor is WAR a common game.  By the way, how do you know it is commonly so?  Did you do a survey or carry out a study?  How many percent of companies fall into this commonly?  How many $ in revenue these commonly companies generate in revenue?  Oh no, you did not perform any study, you just claim, cook it out of thin air, and believe that it is commonly.

Ah at the end of the day, you admit coming here with a spray of meaningless word, unsubstantiated claims and ultimately admit you are jealous b/c you cannot play a game free, a game you are unwilling to put down $1 to pre-order and yet are so shamlessly idiot to claim the right to take part in the selective stage of  "open beta".  Learn your place, you have no rights to be there.  Until Mythics invite you, you are not going there.
