we don't know. They will announce it on the Aion site when they do. It will be in 2009. There are going to be preview events.

*stay tuned*

From what I've read, Aion could be released tomorrow if need be, but NCsoft is pushing to truly release a polished game, not a 1/2 completed one which requires 50 patches every week.  Also, the very loose NDA which NCsoft has in place with Aion is a good sign that they aren't ashamed to show the public what is going on.  A good example of this is AoC which had an extemely tight NDA and tried to smash all vids and info coming out of their CBT and ended up releasing a game that wasn't close to being completed.  The "preview events" are planned for early '09 so I would speculate that it will be relased around Q2 '09, but again, that is just specualtion.

Its published by NCSoft, but I think that game was produced by a division of NCSoft. The way I understand it, is that there are several divisions in NCSoft that are responsible for games, excluding Guild Wars. Aion is being developed by a korean/asian Division, while Tabula Rasa was produced in a divsion in the US.

Be fair to NCSoft on that one.  They gave Garriot a ton of money, a lot of time, and all the support he needed.  They definitely did not rush the game, pressure Garriot, or do anything untoward (he had five years for cripes sake, and a huge budget).

Garriot failed that game.  NCSoft was a big loser there, but they seriously did nothing wrong.

Garriot makes me angry I don't know why they can't just cut his company loose... Really pisses me off they went with Tabula Rasa but let Blackstar go, I bet Blackstar would have been better. ;  ;  They must have a hit a point of no return with Tabula.

Blackstar:  Site

Looks like an EVE but with actual avatars and exploration.

uhh What? Black Star looks nothing like EVE it might be a good game but the day black star looks like EVE is the day i stop playing EVE. Nor does blackstars extra game modes make it better then EVE , EVE has a set game system not a run around and slash n crash, theres a player supported community and actual strat. But yeah i hope Aion comes out real soon i don't care if it is pay to play anything with those graphics is at least worth a try.

Cynthe probably meant that it was like EVE in the way that it shares the setting. Not that the gameplay is like that of EVE.

The point of the post was that Blackstar would have been a bigger success than Tabula Rasa, and from the little I know of both, I would agree.

Tabula Rasa was a fluke for NCsoft.. IMO, Richard G. was too involved in Space Flight to keep his Tabula going right.. So it's not NCsoft's fault.. City of Heroes was still a legend in it's time.. As for GuildWars, never played it much, own it, just lost interest.. (ADD+MMO's=Jumping a must..) Aion looks great, but I saw a video for a new game by NCSoft, Blade & Soul, which looked so unbelievable... Go NCSoft. :P

That game looks nothing like EVE and I know since I play EVE. Not even the ships or space scenery have any resemblance to EVE. It looks more like a arcade shooter of old.

**NVM I see someone else also made the same point.**

Waiting for Aion

9/07/08 5:10:28 PM#13

Next year, 2009 probably. Korea is ready for open beta these days.

Although I can't wait for the release, I'm glad they are putting time to give out a finished game. Having 2/3 done game with a patch every week....it's not THAT bad, but no body really want to read all the whines some people put up on forums during that time.

Well when was the last time someone released a 2/3rds done game?  Turbine and LOTRO?  Very few people actively criticized Turbine for an incomplete game.  A lot of other criticism?  Sure (much of it legit).

When people criticize things as incomplete, they're usually attacking games like Tabula Rasa (about 1/4 complete at best), Vanguard (didn't even work, period), AoC (MAYBE 1/4 complete), etc.

Games like D&D and LOTRO don't usually get whacked with the 'incomplete' hammer even though they were.

Even with Tabula Rasa (also keep in mind of Auto Assault, which has failed so horribly that nobody even remembers that mess) I would say NCSoft is one of the better / best gaming companies on the market.

If only SW:TOR could be this epic...

Oh and did you bother to read the posts after that one too? ;P It's a space exploration game, that's why it's like EVE to me, though it's in space and therefore ALIKE it is not EVE, neither is it Tabula though there's a few similarities, but it's not ground based only, I guess a better example is it's an EVE and Tabula mix, no I'm not talking about the graphics... :

-Fly your spaceship to exotic locations, blasting through cunning enemies and dreadful space creatures.

-Leave your ship and take up the quest, exploring mysterious planets, derelict space stations, and force your way onto enemy ships.Live as one of four races, ranging from heroic humans and beautiful aliens to warrior robots and undead horrors in an epic science-fantasy universe where advanced technology clashes with ancient demonic power.

-A new breed of game, Blackstar resurrects the dream of online space combat with real-time spaceflight featuring fast and nimble fighter-craft loaded with devastating sci-fi weapons.

-You aren’t limited to the canopy: get out of your ship and hit the deck for fast paced ground combat on the surface of alien worlds and aboard enemy ships.

-Combine spell-casting with real time shooting as you blast through enemies, collect loot, and gain levels in a variety of unique alien environments.

-Join up with your friends in maneuverable fleet formations to take on capital ships and enemy starbases in epic large scale battles.

-Play as a member of one of two galaxy-spanning factions: the hopeful and technologically advanced United Colonies or the dangerous, prophecy-guided Scorn Empire.

-Choose your role in the fight from a variety of powerful classes: From deadly Assassins operating behind the enemy lines, to powerful Crusaders who shrug off damage and unleash volleys of blistering fire, pick the role that matches your style of play.

-Participate in a rich story as the forces of futuristic technology and mind-twisting magic clash in a battle to decide the fate of the galaxy.

-Declare war against other players and destroy them in action packed player-vs-player combat that serves all levels of skill from the freshest cadet to the deadliest ace.

I'm going to keep an eye for this one anyway and hope a new publisher picks it up soonish.

"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"

AION is in CBT 3 now which is means the game is basically done as far as launch goes. It simply needs the translations for the Western market to be finished and well be seeing the game around Q1 i hope.

In NCs defense:

TR could have been awesome if Garriot actually managed his funds/time correctly. He has 5 yrs and a ridiculous budget to go along with that. So the only reason TR may seem unbfinished is because he completely mismanaged the game. Hell he got the kind of money NC would only use on its flagship game (lineage)

Auto Assault was a game i personally liked but was somewhat hollow. NC simply published it they didnt develop it so they are not really to blame for it.

Lineage I & II have both been a huge success internationally (perhaps not the US) but all over Asia and Europe it has been for many years. I played that for 2 yrs and though i have major issues with its economy i had tons of fun in that game.

Seeing that AION will not be such a grind and incorporate some neat customization options for character skills etc this should be a great game.
