I used to be a warrior like you, then I took an arrow to the knee.. |
An MMO is 'finished' when the game has all features promised at release, in the game and fully operational. Yes, things will be continually tweaked and updated, but we all know this goes with the territory in this genre. Is this not acceptable? Apparently not, as both of my threads were generally shot down in flames by various fanboys and the like.
'All MMO's are released unfinished. Get off Funcom's back and let them get on with patching the bugs and missing content....', blah, blah.
That is a sad state of affairs. Let me use the oldest analogy in the history of the world to emphasise my point. I bought a new car the other day. It looked very nice, except it had no wheels. I was told, 'fear not dear customer, we will have those wheels over to you within the month - happy motoring!'
Hmm, k.
But lo and behold, what is this on the horizon!? Omg, a game being published that has 95% of the content promised, and it works as intended, and is relatively balanced...there must be some mistake?
No, War is here, and it WILL be everywhere. I played DAoC many moons ago, and it was/is the best PvP experience to date. Warhammer is its successor, and Mythic has cemented its future due to being true to itself and its fanbase. They delayed an unfinished game and are delivering a 'finished' game. This was the masterstoke that took this genre to the next level, and that in itself is revolutionary.
Take notice, Funcom. |

Okay, I never ever played AOC.
I played the WAR beta.
But I don't use it. Nuff said. And I am a PvP fan. |

There's unfinished MMO's and UNFINISHED MMO's like AOC.

But they have stated that WAR will not be finished. They have stated that they are releasing it with 4 main cities and some classes missing. The only difference is that they have told us that it is not a finished product while Funcom did not tell its playerbase the truth. Regardless of Mythics honesty, WAR is still an unfinished product. |

It was good of the WAR crew to tell everyone that some things wont be added at the very beginning. Which makes them so much more reliable than Funcom and other companies that promised so much and delivered so little. The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon |

LOTRO,whether you like it or not was NOT unifinished or bug laden even in beta, never mind release. Funcom is just making excuses for repeated deceptions and poor development practices. I had high hopes for it but after 10 days it got very boring. I stuck with it but I am done. The population on our server has bottomed out as well and I have a feeling it will only get worse.

No mmos are ever finished, not one single MMO ever launches finished, except for possibly LOTRO. And no MMO but this pile of #$%^ Conan has ever been released without the features listed on the box. Fanbois can live in denial all they want but AOC was pawned off on us in an alpha state features were removed before launch and right after because of stability issues. On top of that months of promises have yielded nothing but petty fixes most of which broke more than they fixed. So I agree no MMO is released finished but only Failcom released and Alpha as an MMO. I've been in numerous closed betas that are more stable than AOC has been at any time since its release. |

dark and light imho wins the unfinished pos award, vanguard comes in second, everquest 2 third, and aoc prob about 4th
there was lack of high lvl content in aoc but the classes were fairly playable, the newbie zone solid enough to get to 20
dark and light still had major graphic's glitches like horse floating thru water etc and no content at all
vanguard crashed, froze, chugged and oozed from performance issues, bugs and missing content
everquest2 on release, half the lvl 10 class quests couldnt be done, they also didnt work out how items would effect combat and how spell stacking would effect some classes as well as many bugs, graphics tears, glitches..
wow had its share of missing quests, pvp and general graphics bugs but it was a lot more polished that most
lotrol dungeons dissapeared on few peoples computers with sli - appart from that its release was as dull as the game itself :D
war is going to come in somewhere between eq2 and wow i think on release - if you get upset about bugs, missing content etc I suggest you go play a 2yo+ mmo for a few untill they sort out all the new issues an influx of players brings
happy gaming |

I didn't play Helgate, didnt know it was even an MMO lol. I did beta test Vanguard and played at launch and I would say that Vanguard was a little better than AOC. Worst problem I had in Vanguard was the lag and servers crashing. Imagine what AoC would be like if it wasnt instanced to death lol. |

well they wanted you to think it was an mmo by charging you a monthly fee to get more content beyond their basic diablo with guns game. Its hard to peg it there were alot of players on at one time but it was sort of diabloish but they did try and charge a monthly fee for expanded content. And it was sort of an mmog. |
