to the OP, countless other MMOs? Most of us on this site, especially MMORPG.com have played countless MMOs. Although most of us respect your opinion, do remember it is not the end-all of opinions and everybody is entitled to theirs. I remeber the Blizzard boards during WoWs beta and there were 'countless' threads, just like this one. -------------------------- |

If you played DAOC you ll know without a doubt how different WOW and WAR are. I remember a friend who played WOW religiously and vowed to play it forever. I said hey come try this out. He comes to my house as i m playing DAOC, i let him make a char and level up but he watched me play a keep take with my Skald. He then says ok teach me how to play the Skald. I show him for a better part of a day, then he takes over, groups up and we were on a Albion romp on classic cluster. We were after a relic which he had no idea about. Anyways within 10 minutes of the first keep take, he says to me, since you re in WAR beta is this anything like WAR. I say yep alot of similarities but some differences, for the better IMO. He then proceeded to play through even up to the RR. He then turns to me nd says i ll be right back. 20 Minutes later he shows me his receipt for WAR pre order and logs onto my comp to cancel his WOW account. Then takes over my comp to play more DAOC lol. Anywyas it won t be lik that for everyone but i think some can get the idea.
Great story, i have similar examples with folks that are now guildies.
We need some violin music with that story. |

No but people who played DAOC know how fun RVR can be already. |

From what i've seen your whole damn city is at stake... i'd say thats a BIG something to lose and/or gain. Seems most people are either uninformed or just don't seem to be thinking before they type =P |

I agree. No offense, but i can tell by the "95% of all th fighting will be instanced....." that this person is not in beta. For this person and OP, just wait a few more hours and the NDA should be lifted, and I am sure most of your questions will be answered. |

If you would bother to read my post before responding, you'd realize that I've been in the beta for quite some time... and I've been struggling to find reasons to play it... Many people who want RvR will play it... it's not a point of whether it's succesfull or not... it will be... many people will play.... however don't sit and talk about it as if it's the second coming of christ... |

WoW was never about World PvP. It was something you could do.. but sadly ignored. RvR is World PvP x 100. ;)
Today, WoW isn't about World PvP because it was butchered to pieces. It used to be about World PvP until they added in arenas. Now all people do is get instant epics and just play repetitive arena all day... not that it isn't fun, but it'd be nice if they actually revived world pvp in WoW (which is what they are attempting in WotLK). That's one of the biggest things I hate about WoW considering I'm an avid PvPer. Basically what will make me stick with WoW or play with WAR will be if WoW's expansion is actually able to bring back world pvp. At this point with the game that seems impossible but one could hope. And even if I do end up playing WAR, it won't be for a long while as there are much better MMOs (or at least MMOs trying to break the mold instead of playing it safe) coming out soon after WAR's release ("soon" as in early-late 2009). And no, I don't think WAR will be that amazing either. I really don't think anyone does since the only thing that can be bragged about this game that not many other games have is a great focus on RvR. Everything else has been done before, it's just going to be through a different collidoscope. Not that it can't be a great game or even become very popular (even though that's very unlikely), but it isn't going to completely change the face of how we see MMOs as we know it. I could imagine this game sticking with numbers similar to LOTRO's after a couple of months unless this game has some amazing pvp and whatever else they're trying to sell.

But seriously I think they're doing it the smart way. Why break a mold that isn't bad? Why not take that mold, expand on it where other games have failed to do so. Then take all that and actually LISTEN to feedback and do something about it and you have a promising start on making money. You'd be a fool to say any mmo released to date wasn't shooting for money like every other bussiness that puts out a product. |

I think the thing that cracks me up about Warhammer is that just because it has RvR people just assume its going to be awesome.....First of all if DAoC was so friggin awesome why didnt it ever have more than 250K subs??...i mean if RvR is the only reason why we PVP then why isnt DAoC at 10 million members and WoW at 250K?? Also that was from 2002-2004 what happened to it?? Did people just get that bored with it and leave?? Warhammer will have more players on day 1 than DAoC had on its best day ever.....Just because WAR has RvR doesnt mean much of anything....people will get bored with killing each other just like they did in DAoC......It had better have some solid PVE, group oriented goals, and many other forms of PVP besides just killing the other faction...... |

We "assume" its going to be awesome because we've heard beta testers testimonials, viewed podcasts, viewed q&a, snuck a peak at some leaked vids on youtube. That is why this game is going to be awesome, even RvR aside the game is setup from what i've seen to have fun and believable PvE. DAoC only had a "small" number of subscribers because the game was heavily focused on PvP/RvR. There are alot more carebears in the world that want to see their character get married in game, have cutesy characters, and pimp themselves out for an epic mount. Nothing against WoW i've played it myself, its just that the gaming industry is evolving and its not going to be able to keep up with "core" game fun. If you want to play "house" stick with your current game, if you want to have pride, teamwork, and an ever-changing game play WAR. |

Oo this is a good one. First of all mmos didn't really hit mainstream market til WoW imo. Blizzard made it easy to pick up and learn. DAoC had a hard learning curve. No casting while people hitting you (who would've thought?) and so forth. RvR didn't really shine til u were max level or 5 from it and even then it was hard. People want shit handed to them to "like" it where as other people that work for their rewards have more sense of accomplisment and stick with the game and a handful of characters maybe. Then the dreded Trials of Atlantis expansion too things into a even bigger grindfest lots of people lost interest. Then New Frontiers tried to make things easier for the casual RvR person that just wants to solo (run unground with the zerg) and that fell on its face for the most part. Each mistake though was corrected, be it classic servers that take out the ToA. Now to be released is a new Origins server with the Old Frontiers. So with all that, Mythic has started well and then some might say screwed up, and then listened to the consumers and fixed. Hopefully with WAR they have taken all that into considerations (which seems apparent that they have) and will make a great game with things people like. |

Your answering your own question. RvR is why everyone is so hyped and going nuts for this game. There are a lot of pvpers who want a meaningful experience. The games core revolves around RvR and PvE is just their to supplement it. Yes other games may do PvE better you have WoW/LotRO/Vanguard for PvE Fixes, For Sandbox you have EvE, character customization would be CoX, but for RvR you have DAoC and now WAR. Other games have some RvR gameplay elements but none are focused around it like WAR. So RvR is the main reason why you should be buying it if you are interested. Although PvE players who like to dabble in pvp would also find this game rewarding because they contribute to the campaign as well. One major selling point to me with this game is how they promote grouping and community from the start. Public Quests, Open Party system, RvR in general just promote more cooperation with your fellow realm members with out forcing it down your throat. |

As some person stated earlier, the more I read this thread the more I got the feeling WAR will NOT FLOP. Im in CB with 3 of my friends, and in short WE LOVE IT. Thing is we played WoW for 3 years now, we did all the stuff, and basicly what we USED to do a week ago is do is raid 4 nights a week (2-3 hours), and just do arenas or lvl alts. No fun there now, WHY? we finished the endgame. I am not trying to bash WoW I love it, it was a fun ride. But endgame is now only arena or lvling alts or redoing the same bosses, over and over and over, and for what? Ok let me explain what we do NOW, we log in, hop on vent, group up and RvR, and have a blast. I know NDA is up so I wont elaborate, lets just say I have been getting the gaming "rush" from WAR that I havent felt for a while. ENDGAME, I havent seen it but i'm willing to bet it wont be the same story over and over. When one side "wins" the game will restart (dont know the specifics), and you might think thats it? But what I think is and believe is it's not gonna be the same, its gonna be a whole new game. The main reason ppl are hyped about WAR is because of the RvR, you dont get to play against NPC's you play against other players, which means competition, and ppl live for it. WAR even has trophies/braggin rights/ etc to further spice up the competition rewards. Plus on the ZERGFEST that everyone is worried about, sure there will be zergfests but if you played DAoC or even a orginized BG in WoW you know orginization+skill > numbers. It is NOTHING like WoW's unorginized BG's, imagine it like a 25 man raid but you will be going against players as your trash mobs and goto do strats/formations for that, it WONT be same as the last time always have to be on your toes. Bah, goto stop here, else i'd go on and on. ATM we're 100% sure we'll go Order as its no secret Destro will outnumber order a good deal, more stuff to kill and better competition! |

You don't even need to talk more. Everything is already settled... This product "War" don't even made more than a step forward so it can be what it pretend: a pvp game, they just slaped the RvR (this is where the step is made) on an old and anti PvP mmo concept which is totally unable to manage a pvp environment, it was proven with every damn mmo out there from day one with UO. The only really inovative step in the mmo world in more than a decade, and every serious employee in the industry knows it, was made with WoW when they used publicity by "all" the mean possible so every damn computer game user will want a try on it (which nobody had really even tried before, and neither after which is so pathetic because you can see most guys can't even see and smell the shit they made the second before. Not that i can do it myself, im not part of this industry but in the consumer part, and everything is so much more obvious from outside), other than that there is nothing else out there, nothing. And it is not that there is progression, but rather regression in pretty much all the domain mmorpg include, except the 3D rendering aspect; once more, i talk from the veteran player side. And nothing will change untill a "new R.G" (R.G himself is out obviously, sorry for you dude, and im respecting you a lot) make "The" MMo in his underground and get the 1chance over a zillion to succesfully push it on the market before the stupid industry destroyed it for his benefit, and because of his total lack of insight. |
