I wonder if xfire double counts for people with multiple accounts (which is everyone that plays Eve). |

Any new or returning player to WOW, send me a PM for some help getting started. |
I doubt Eve has more subscribers than AoC though. Eve has a very high appeal to internet geeks and is more hardcore then mainstream ( aoc has a box at best buy, eve doesn't). The type of players to have xfire are much more likely to know about EVE. Also Eve player continually 'recruit' players to post on forums and get stuff like xfire. It's their only marketing. ................................................ |

You just pointed out flaw on, in your definitive Xfire exposé. Xfire is not a measure of anything, but Xfire users.

Not that that’s not impressive foe Eve and its architecture. Eve is also a game that would fall under the title of "Failed" by many AOC haters here, that has clawed its way back up to creating revenue. Indeed, atleast according to OP thats the main point of this thread. I'm sure AoC and Eve have around the same number of subscriptions, but compared to eve; AoC's numbers will only go down. This is unless Funcom actually does something to prevent people from leaving and improving upon the game.

Again, we are talking about Eve here, have we forgotten its history? Eve would qualify as "The Fa!l" by many haters here, and has pulled its self back up to being a financial success......YEARS later. AOC is already a finical success. I’m not fighting the OP's post...Just put it back into perspective. ---------- "No, your wrong.." - Random user #123 "Hello person posting on a site specifically for MMO's in a thread on a sub forum specifically for a particular game talking about meta features and making comparisons to other titles in the genre, and their meta features. Just the difference is that AOC had a backing financial, running MMORPG experience, and well established company. CCP was far from that and was considered an indy developer. I wouldn't even begin to place a "Fail" on a non-commercial backing project such as Eve, rather it be one of the best success stories in MMORPG development. Think about it for a little bit next time. |

So you mean to tell me with all the backlash they have the same amount of subs now, as they did at the end of June? Actually its around 50,000. Also EvE's architecture is designed to be easily extended which means that when the Concurent users approaches 50,000 CCP will just add more server Nodes and Re-distibute the nodes. Also concerning EvE clawing its way back up to finantial success.
AOC had backing from investors and was being put together by a large software company with prior experience and could afford a LOT of advertisement. EvE however had very little finantial backing [i belive it was mainly a subsidy from Iceland] from begining to end and was being put together by a new company with a small number of people whose prior gaming experience included playing UO and amking a bourd game whose profits were used to fund EvE. And EvE had very little advertising.
So all things considered for an indy game that tried to be different by not going down the WoW route it did pretty well especially considering that since it went live its been steadily and constantly growing in Paying accounts. |

AOC doesn`t have 400k subs
AOC today = 200 or 300 |

give it another 3 months and AoC will be looking up EQ's skirts. |

I don't think you guys want to pull the AoC vs Eve debate. Seriously, you're playing with fire if you do. Once Eve lets players walk around space stations the subs are going to Jump. Have you seen the atmospheric flight demo? once we can fly around in a planets atmosphere its over. Eve has tremendous possibilities while AoC is created by a company that destroyed one of the better Sci-fi skill based hybrid mmo's with crappy expansions and lack of attention. I try to stick up for AoC cause I had hope it would at least be as good as vanguard. For the eve fan that posted about eve in a AoC forum, you have disgraced Eve and yourself for even posting a topic of a much superior game in this failing games forums.
Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

There was somewhere a chart of subscriber numbers and Eve isnt a small game. If I remember right it was in the Top 10. Its constantly getting more subs and it deserves it. Its a wonderful game. AoC is declining and even if the numbers of the subs is going below Eve its still a lot. |

if Xfire stats are relatively the same, that would still put AoC somewhere in the 200-300k active sub mark. (yes I know they said 415k, but you all know as well as I do, that that doesnt take into consideration those who cancelled but still had gametime left.) still, 200-300k is nothing to sneeze about....

so the loss of 900k to 1 mill players based on the 1.2 mill units sold ? in 3 months lol is still nothing to sneeze at also lol
again im not sure about that 1.2 mill units sold. if its 800k units the still a loss of 500k to 600k ? |

you misunderstand me.... I despise what FunCoim has done. I WASTED my money on AoC. but... (granted this is a big but) IF funcom can retain 200-300k players then they will have the bankrole to keep the hampster spinning in their cage.... 200-300k players is still a healthy playerbase. again... thats IF FunCom can retain that many leading up to Q3 2008
