Why does everyone keep saying "WoW killer" about every new game to come out? Why does it even matter? Just play the game you like, and be done with it. Nothing is going to kill WoW anytime soon, and why would you want that game's playerbase to deplete or move on?

I don't think it will "kill" WoW.  However I do think that the PvP crowd from WoW that come and give it a shot won't want to go back to WoW.  They will probably go back for expansion, but If they enjoy a good PvP battle... well there's just no comparison between the two... at least in my opinion.

In fact now that I think on it, the casual players will love the game as well.  Public quests are awesome.

Here's my take on it...

If you compare WoW to WAR based on Revenue and raw profit, WoW will win.

Now, if WAR turns a profit, I think it will be considered a success.

It is my belief that each game unto itself will be a success.

I'd say more, but NDA.

WoW won't be killed off completely, I realize that.  Right now tho WoW is ripe for a fall.

All a game like Warhammer will have to do is steal customers on multiple servers and the overall foundation of WoW (which is it's players) will begin to crumble. 

If Warhammer is the new cool thing to play then there will be a mass exodus off of WoW since WoW has just gotten old and stale.

people get tired of playing a hacked up version of the game they once loved and reluctantly let go of that virtual character to try a new one. That is how it is.

No single game will be a WoW killer. WAR is the first one with a legit chance at being true competition for WOW though. If you look at just western world players WoW has something like 4-5M, I think WAR can probably retain a good 1M+ if they are stable enough at release.

If you're on the fence I suggest trying it at release. Don't play a game just because it COULD be a 'WoW killer'. There have been a lot of good games that came out after WoW, but none that ould ever kill it. LotRO is a great example. It was supposed to be a WoW killer...wasn't...but turned out to be successful. 10 mil subs doesn't determine if a game is good or not. It's what you like that determines if the game is fun or not.

Wow at first was focused on the PvE and WAR is focused on the RvR.Its the same spaghetti but a different sauce.

Well your question would seem to be based upon personal preference.  The answer is different for everyone.

Now if we are talking about a "WoW Killer" in terms of population. Honestly, probably not. I'd be extremely surprised to see another mmo hit WoW like world wide populations anytime soon.

WoW's release was extremely well timed, imo. The older mmos were getting stale or dated, EQ2 didn't seem very appealing and anything else was extremely niche. WoW not only cashed in on having mass appeal, but the fact that so many bought the game for the Blizzard and Warcraft names alone. WoW brought many new mmorpg gamers into the genre, more so than any other mmorpg. I guess WoW is to MMORPGs as FFVII was to North American RPGs, it just brought a ton of new blood into the genre with a mass appeal.

WoW still continues to have that mass appeal too, with the sheer amount of carrot-on-a-stick content to be had, there's always better loot, unique mount, rep to be ground, arena ratings, to be attained. WoW is also PvE centric, which means that folks who are not confrontational by nature will gravitate towards it.

Where WAR has the potential to hurt WoW is the pvp population. WoW's pvp is an utter joke. Battlegrounds and World PvP have taken a severe backseat to their overhyped and underdeveloped Arena E-Peen/Sport. Gear and resilience rating play such a vital role in PvP now that any fresh 70, or hell alt in lower tiers, gets completely stomped by folks who have already spent tons of time and money into the system. There isn't a way for a casual player to truly compete in such a system, or even break into the system with any chance for immediate success.

It seems Mythic's RvR system was the way to have a "mass" appeal to pvp, as DAoC was the first successful mmorpg to focus on a pvp aspect as endgame. WAR will hopefully continue to cash in on the uniqueness of the RvR system and bring a lot of fun and tactics into pvp again

WAR wont kill WoW. It get a large following I think easily 1mil and it doesnt have to all come from WoW. I could see this game sitting at 2mil subs by next christmas if they dont screw anything up and imo being in the CB im not worried.

On a side note: I start considering wow a non-mmo. The hardcore gameplay of an mmo is starting to fade in wow. Everyone gets easy epics, raids are piss easy unless you are a fucking moron. The game is just way to casual now (thats the reason they have such huge sales). Which means HIGH reward for VERY SMALL risk = BORING. 

So basicly wow is already dead to me! And to most of the people on this forum.

Blizzard= wow killer. Patching is WAY to slow. I mean it took them like 5-6 months for a stupid ass raid dungeon with 6 bosses and a small dungeon with 3 bosses. I don't care if they work on an expansion, that expansion should have been there @ the start of the year.

I mean almost 2 years for 1 expansion = WRONG. People already run trhough most of the content in about 6 months. 1 year for an expansion should be the maximum.
