Here it is more then half way through August, and we are "still waiting" for the new comprehensive video that was promised to us soon last May by the mighty Tasos himself... We are "still waiting" for these great magazine articles that will blow us all away... We are "still waiting" for mention of a short open beta date.. We are "still waiting" for a release date that is supposed to be by the end of 2008... We are "still waiting"... This reminds me so much of one of those old programs you'd spend hours trying to code in on the old Commodore 64. You'd get done after an exhaustive and long coding session for some silly little game and be anticipating the best and at least a fun little game with two dimensional sprites. And in the end when you typed in "RUN" or "SYS49152" to make it run.. you'd get a message saying something like "Please wait..." or perhaps simply "Loading..." in the middle of your screen. And after a very long wait you'd get either a system hard crash you had to hard reboot to recover from or something like "Return without Gosub Error in 42503". LOL. All your anticipation blew out like a helium balloon losing its helium. And even when you got done fixing all your errors, in the end all you had was some stupid little game that bored you to tears and you recorded something over it on your cassette tape or "1541 Hard Drive" hehe. I dunno, but I expect a similar type of end result with Darkfall. Either no launch at all and when you type 'RUN', there simply is nothing ever there to play so it just says "Ready." or perhaps something as good as a "Out Of Data Error in 46740" used to be on the good old Commodore 64.

I don't see it happening, but even after it doesn't all the fans will still be coming up with excuses of why they didn't.

IMHO they shouldn't waste time playtesting it themselves. Why waste developers time playing through the game when you can have a thousand people do it for you, and break the game that much faster.
Anyways, even Mortal Online seems to be more obtainable than Darkfall, even StarVault's company website has more than just job postings.
But whatever, let's just all mindlessly follow the Tasos fellow, who we know nothing about.

Yes, we really needed another one of those threads. "The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming! On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore." |

Why so much anticipation for a game that hasn't been worked on since 2007? The "devs" don't even work at that company anymore. They all listed on their online resumes that the company ended in '07. They have no recent screenshots, no new developments, and nothing to say in nearly a year. For a game even somewhat close to release, that would make no sense. The only reason to halt communications with the fans/media is that you aren't working on the project anymore. What the hell is so great about this game anyway? There isn't even any concrete information about it, but all the PvP fanatics have made it into the perfect game with their wild speculation. This game smells of the stench that followed "Dark and Light"... They're fueled by deception and speculation. I would have expected the staff to look into the state of whether this game even exists still or not! Why they don't just contact the "devs" and make sure it's even in production is beyond me... |

Darkfall generates traffic for MMORPG.COM, which is good. However, the site has its reputation to think of, and I expect the game to be removed from the site in 2009 if Darkfall doesn't at least come out with a beta. And no, I don't have inside information to lead me to that belief.
To the OP, I suspect a good number of the people waiting on this game are unaware it has been in development since 2001, and that it has already missed at least two promised beta deadlines (2003, 2005). You have to admit, the Darkfall web site sure looks nice, and the promised features look good to someone who hasn't played a PK game in a while. I suspect enthusiastic fans come here and immediately write the nay-sayers off as "trolls". At least that was my experience, when I discovered Darkfall back in 2004 or 2005.

Except for the few people that recently discovered DF, almost every person waiting for DF (and reads these forums) has read countless posts about this information. Revealing nothing new here. I suspect DF is nothing but a handful of empty promises, but it provides entertainment on these forums. But as mentioned in another thread, you fanbois need to be more patient.

...Speaking about that video - Didn't I read posts before August got here that it was supposedly coming the the "beginning days of the month"?? ...Not the end? Maybe that was something else, but thought it was about their mighty upcoming new comprehensive video, hehe.
