You are right, they are the same. One focuses on costumes and body, while the other focuses on body and faces. The faces in CoH are quite static even with the sliders. Aion is a newer game and has more then customization going for it. It's gameplay will rival WoW's, L2, FFXI, EQ2, AoC, ect... But not at the cost of great character creation. Conan told us we'd have super character customization, but Aion has better, at least for females... A million games? Not exactly I can think of a few that have facial sliders: Ryzom: Hands down the best character creation, faces and bodies' sliders have drastic effect. Vanguard: Very good when they had the facial sliders. AoC: Sliders only do so much. EQ2: You hardly notice a difference whatever you do. CoH: Again not much of a difference. WoW, L2, FFXI: You pick a face, no sliders. Hmm what am I missing? I never mentioned gameplay, i don't care about that, that wasn't the point of my post. And yes it was a saying, i didn't mean a million games. ryzom, i'll agree, great customization Vanguard, facial sliders, body piece sliders, tons more races though AoC you do get some nice alteration of your characters, but ill agree there. EQ2, but beyond just facial customization, theres a wider variety of races CoH, tons difference. Facial customization has sliders, and a wide variety of faces and masks. On par? not quite. But then you get costumes. More then body, your character created in coh is everything, his hat, his shirt, his pants, his shoulders. It's all created and styled by you. Which is why you very rarely ever see 2 heroes/villains who look exactly the same. WoW l2 FFXI, i agree. By saying a million other games did it, i meant and which is obvious. "It's nothing special that stands above the crowd". And it's not, CoHs is. You can say it has good customization i don't mind i won't argue, just don't say its close to coh. because its not. While there isn't a lot of games out there to say are super better. you still just can't say aion is doing anything worth mentioning in a way to hype the game. Talk about it's great gameplay, it's flying, it's etc. I don't know. Unlike you guys, i've played more then asian mmos, so sliders aren't something revolutionary.
My first MMORPG wasn't Asian so I do not understand why you want to paint with broad brush strokes. With NCSOFT acquiring the CoX from Cryptic it isn't far fetched to believe they can come close with Aion in character customization. I strongly disagree with your assertion that it isn't close because based on the footage shown that is all over the internet from Korean beta testers it is very convincing.

Greets, With people like Dawn playing (who say an unreleased game has "Failed" and all the Warhammer people are coming to Aion to say "Bad Things") I don't know if this game will be worth it. -------------------------------------- Order of the White Border. |

Oh please check your attitude at the door, I don't care what you've played I can guarantee you I've played every game you have. Currently enjoying CoX with my hubby and while there's tons costume wise again facially there really isn't. So I guess it depends what you think is more you, your face or your costume. In Aion it;'s mostly your face with cosmetic options for your armor like dye. Once the game is available to us and people start playing they will see for themselves and understand that yes in Aion you will be hard pressed to be a clone of anyone. The fact everyone wore the same damn brown potato sack already threw customization out the door. |

I think it is probably hard to create a game where people are recongnized by their appearance rather than the name above their character. I've played some games that have had character creation that gives people the option of looking different from everyone else and a few people do it but no matter how many options that are provided there will always be people that look like each other. Because people don't want to take a chance at looking different? Tbh, idk but it never fails, every MMO, even next gen ones seem to have the same cookie cutter characters not because tthe option isn't there, people just don't use the option to look different. granted, some of the options are rediculous and veryfew ppl would choose some of them.

Yeah to be completely honest I don't really care how different my toon looks from everyone else. I do however miss being able to dye armor and weapons like in DAoC. So i am looking forward to being able to choose what color my armor and stuff is gonna be. Realy when it comes time to play the game II probably won't spend more the 30 seconds customizing my character and choosing hair color tattoos and what not. I'm gonna want to play the game. I think people make too big a deal out of customizing options. For a game you're gonna play for years why is the first 3-5 mins have to be so indepth? Does it make the gameplay better? Does it improve on the storyline immersion? Will PvP be improved by this? I don't think so but for some reason this is something people always throw their arms up about. Maybe that's why I prefer Eastern MMOs where gameplay and mechanics take precidence over how many colors of hair i can choose or how big can i make this toons boobs before the sliding bar is all the way to the end. |

Originally posted by kaishi00 That's because armor is considered an acquirable item, and not part of the customization, or character creation. There are dyes however.... Having your character look somewhat unique has pretty much been proven to be a wanted feature in these games where you play with thousands of potential clones, and yes that includes dying your armor and making certain pieces look like another set you have. Example make your newly acquired chest piece with awesome stats look like your lower level piece with better graphics. (,,,)=^__^=(,,,)Game Latte Vidcast |
