"250,000 people, one server"

There's not 250,000 people, there's 250,000 active accounts, and anyone who has played EVE know many people own 2 or more accounts, and that's not even including the farmers who probably run dozens each.

There's probably more like 50,000-100,000 real people playing EVE online.

CCP are liars, and they know it, yet they use it to advertise still.

250,000 is probably a legit number of active accounts. If players use more then one account, that isnt there problem. If gold farmers want to keep buying accounts, that isnt there problem.  There monthly income shows a value equal to 250,000+ accounts thus they can say they have 250,000 active players. A lie is when you say you have 415,000 accounts when really that number has no backing.

btw: most players i know DONT own 2 accounts, and i know for a fact gold farmers get banned on an hourly basis.(along with people they find buying from them). So if numbers are still going up, that means more people are playing.  As for only 50-100k players? not everyone plays every day, people have other stuff to do. just cuz you only see 20-30k on all the time doesn't mean thats all the people that play the game.

Protip: If someone does NOT list at least one positive and one negative about the game they are critiquing, its best to ignore the post.

And the point of this thread was? Name a company that never stretched the truth. Also, where do you get your information? Do you have a server monitor that monitors all accounts and any accounts linked to those accounts of a person?

It's just lke when Blizzard says "10 million online!" when at least half of them are chinese gold farmers. Blizzard doesn't care. Anything for advertising.

....

Why does that make them liars? They have 250,000 accounts being paid for, that's all that matters. They can use that however they want.

Probably the OP played EVE and got burned and is now trying to make CCP look bad by painting them with the semantics brush.

There's a lot bigger issues with EVE than its subscription numbers, IMO. Whining about a harmless advertisement will get you nowhere fast.

There may be 250,000 accounts on that one server is what I think they ment.  Either way Its sweet.  I wish developers could find a way to fit more people on to a server. It would help them cuz they wouldnt have to pay for all the extra servers and it would help us gamers so we can find groups even easier.

It was then that mrmeloni discovered the truth in advertising. And his bitterness grew three sizes that day.

LOL?

Sorry dude, but EvE is better than any game you might be playing at this very moment and this is not gonna change. Face it, EvE is the elite mmo nowadays, and has been for the last 5 years, and it is the 3rd full price subscription largest occidental mmo in the market. Get over it.

And besides, just 10-15% of players do have multiple accounts.

You should educate yourself a little more about server clusters and just what EVE does that makes it special in that regard. I'm sure Google or Wikipedia could help you out.

"It's just lke when Blizzard says "10 million online!" when at least half of them are chinese gold farmers. "

Absolutely right.  It's nitpicking to suggest that not all the active accounts are individual players.  250,000 (or whatever number) active accounts is a significant revenue stream and represents a genuine interest in the game regardless.  People wouldn't have multiple accounts or farm gold if there weren't a significant number of people who actively play.

I tip my hat to EVE and CCP.  It's one of a few MMOs I can think of whose player base has steadily increased over the years.

Your point about the 250,000 figure not representing that many individual players is likely true, but to term the statement as a "blatant lie" is awfully harsh.  I consider it good marketing.

CCP are liars A bit strong dont you think? , and they know it, yet they use it to advertise still.

First of all your partly right according to CCP's In-game Finance Dev the current percentage of those 250,000 accounts that are alts runs at about 19%.

Also your post could equally aply to WoW's claim of having 10,000,000. Point is all MMO's are like this its part of the nature of MMO's.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

You can't name anybody a liar until you can prove what is the truth, and you can't in this case.

Welcome to adulthood. The good news is that you have a discerning mind and an ability to spot the deception.

Now you just need to work on your sense of righteousness. If you're going to crusade against this kind of trickery you've got your work cut out for you.

Every company does this.

Even if people are running multiple accounts it is still another account connected to the server eve if it is one person controlling 10 accounts.

Yeah I know they used server clusters, but i was thinking that they wouldnt need as many  they way they do it. Compared to one server per server name. But I dont know much about servers.   I dont know much about EvE I didn't play it for very long.
