The only place to go when you hit rock bottom is up.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

Yeah, right on. I can see the let down. Usually you're expecting more out of your 65 bucks for an MMO. I have a different mind set going into MMO's generally. I bought Matrix Online knowing full well that I hadn't heard one positive thing about it, but I had to try it anyways. Basically a waste of 50 bucks, but I figured it would be, so I wasn't disappointed.

Just tell those dudes they shouldn't let one bad experience influence their decision to play another game. Most of the time compairing games is like apples to oranges.

MMOs releasing early, i.e. while they should still be in beta, has become a recurring theme.

LOTRO is the only newly released mmo I've played in recent years that has defied that trend. Not that I think it's a real mmo, but that's another story.

Players know this is how things work now. They're becoming much more cautious about new releases. Personally I won't buy any mmo until at least a month after release. I let the other penguins jump in first and see how many resurface.

Reading what the OP has said - AoC hasn't 'ruined' mmos for his guild at all. He's gone to their forums all hyped up and excited about a new mmo at a time when the rest of the guild is feeling jaded over AoC. They've literally just had their very high hopes dashed so they're obviously not going to immediately raise their hopes for another game.

Good point in here, the last game they played was Vanguard which I skipped.  So they played Vanguard followed by AOC, not a good combo.

First try the game then buy it (never buy a MMO the first day if you haven't tried it).

Suggestion: Try LOTRO!

Guild of heavy PvP players, don't think there would be much interest in their version of it.

Then... I can send you a body key to try Lineage II

Note: I can send 8 passes.

well the same here, we were like 40 in our guilde, aoc sucked so much everyone left at the same time, guild died for a period of time, but the CL decided to switch it into multi-gaming guild, so we rebuilt it and now ppl are coming back, we going to meet at warhammer and see if worth staying on it, and we are all waiting for AION to come out

50 went on. 1 remains.

Only 10 people now in guild, all in WAR Guild Beta.

RIP Blackguard. May a resurrection come.

It just that i expected for Funcom to go a step up instead of down. I played AO for a long time and i was convinced that Funcom will take all their knowledge and expertiese to incorporate it in AoC.

Completely opposite happened, i was stunned by how stupid details and things were solved in AoC, like it was made by complete amateurs! Just for example, this is 2008. and they DARE to put a table (grid) display of items (like guild members) that you CAN'T sort by columns (name, class, level etc.) -> that is just plain dumb imo.

Game was made like it was programmed for complete IDIOTS, everything is spoon-fed to players which makes it non-challenging and uninteresting.

Only thing and i mean only thing, that they got right was gfx including motion capturing and avatar design.

I was a big supporter of this game, hell i even preordered collector's edition as soon as it was possible, but in the light of AO which is 7 years old and still crawling with bugs and unfinished-ness im really afraid there is no future for AoC which i would be able to enjoy.

Just a final though, immediately after AoC i tried LOTRO, and i just can't express my satisfaction when i saw the HUGE difference between those -> Cancelled aoc, subscribed to LOTRO, still enjoying GW (2nd year now)

Played or Playing: Anarchy Online, Guild Wars, Age of Conan, Everquest II, City of Heroes, City of Villains, ArchLord, Dungeon Runners, Silkroad Online and loads of not worth mentioning F2P mmos ]

While I find that AoC wasn't everything that I was dreaming it would be, it's still a nice change of pace from the other games that are out, and it's nowhere near a failure in my book.

most console games arent released in the state of disrepair that AOC, or other mmo's, was.  if this were a fps or rts game, it would have gone down on flames, with no defense of it. ill never get why people have to so vehemently defend something that is obviously flawed, and continues to be 'patched' into a more broken state.

mmo's are going on a decade of existence now. its time to take off the kid gloves as gamers. this sort of release shouldnt be acceptable anymore, and judging by much of the reaction maybe it isnt. the technology isnt 'new' anymore. no more excuses about what games released 5 years ago did.

if WAR releases, and has a WORKING auction house, mail system, bank, stats that work (and dont disappear or change) items that dont disappear from inventory, a working crafting system, i few (if any)massive dc causing lag spikes, i'd be happy with it.
