In no particular order.

Vanguard and City of Heroes are the only two I've played that I thought were terrible.  After that you get into games that were flawed and I didn't stick wtih long like AC, AOC, EQ2, SB, UO etc.  I don't really like putting them in the worst category though, they just weren't great.

I've had a decent eye for quality before release so haven't tried most of the more miserable titles that came out.  Only tried Vanguard when it was free and CoH when it was cheap but didn't like either of them at all.

If UO was flawed, then why was it the first mainstream MMO?

1. World of  Warcraft

2. Age of Conan

3. Dark and Light

4. SWG at launch, after Jedi were unlocked, and after NGE (some periods of decent quality there)

5. Rohan

Cause it's Ultima and it wasn't that popular and was very buggy and unplayable at launch, yet people seem to forgret that.

And because it was one of the first graphically based MMOs? And almost all games back then (and even now) were buggy at launch. The world they made for that game is still one of the most in depth REAL MMO worlds to date.

For me I need the sense of immersion to want to explore a online world and because of the isometric 2d view it really kills that for me because you can't look around or remember the world around you like 3D worlds.

So because of that fact I find the world to be rather bland.

+ It wasn't one of the first, just one of the first that people remember.

Star Wars Galaxies used to be one of the best MMORPG's. Now it is one for the worst.

Worst:

1: World of Warcraft

2: SWG

3: LOTRO

4: Tabula Rasa

5: Pirates of the Burning Sea

Personally I can't label a MMO as worst if I enjoyed even a little bit of the game.

My worst:

1. Any Cash shop mmo.

2. All Asian grinder MMO's

My best:

1. Eve Online

2. LotRO

3. Anarchy Online

4. EQ2

5. CoH/CoV

Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age?

Bleh, MMORPG''s are getting bland, we need to liven them up.

8/11/08 11:10:43 PM#138

Worse MMO's of All Time:

1. WoW: This game has completely ruined the industry as we know it. Seriously, people always ask why games are so crappy now... well it's because they see the insane (yet undeserved) success of Blizzard and try to copy them. Half of every new MMO nowadays is copied from this game, and half of the stuff in this game was copied from other crap! I mean, seriously now! The game's not even that fun, its a mindless grind to 70 and then you PvP and raid for some shiny toys. Horray? No, no horray.

2. Maplestory: Possibly the worst grind game ever, yet the most successful cash shop game on the market. I have no idea as to why people pay for this game. It takes effin YEARS to even get to level 40. No game should be like that.

3. Hellgate London: One of the two games that, in my opinion, could have been pure gold, but were released too early. HGL had a very unique concept, some great gameplay, graphics, and a fairly loyal fanbase. But, unfortunately, the game was rushed out. The bugs were overflowing with this game, and it completely destoyed it. Really, really sad.

4. Age of Conan: Another game that could have been pure, pure gold. This game has THE MOST interesting combat I have ever played in a MMORPG. It's engaging, fun, gorey, and awesome. Decapitations are epic, and the graphics in this game are breath-taking. But, yet again, the game was pushed out too early. PvP was insanely unbalanced, bugs were everywhere, and quests were nearly no where to be found after level 50. If this game could have been in development for just 3 more months, it would probably have another million subscribers right now.

5. Fury: A game that goes from P2P, B2P, then F2P in less than a month must be absolute crap.

Note: To all the people who say that Everquest is one of the worst games ever, please, get your 5 year old asses off the computer. ALL MMO veterans know that Everquest was possibly the best MMO ever made. It had so much content, so much stuff to do, and such a great community while it was alive. This was before all the WoWFags had to come and pollute just about every other game with their non-sensical crap.

Are you seriously saying that Ultima Online wasn't popular? That game STARTED to MMORPG genre! There was Meridan 56 before it, but it never caught on. Ultima was the first graphical MMORPG to EVER gather a fan base (which still remains to this day). And if you're saying that only 3D games are good, please go kill yourself. I could easily name 50 2D games that I would consider absolutely incredible. The most popular game in the world, Mario, started off as a 2D game, and they still make 2D games for the mario series! I find your lack of perspective truly breathtaking.

Those two games are probably my all time favorites.

You call people who don't like EQ 5 years old and then you ho and act like that yourself.

WOW didn't ruin the industry it made it better by opening more people up to the mmorpg experience and making the big companies want to get a peice of the action and now we're seeing they're all developing a mmorpg.

Also WOWfags? Ok you don't like WOW but why insult people for liking the most polished and most popular mmorpg on the market? The game can't be that bad if sooo many people like it and are willing to pay monthly for it. I personally feel WOW took all the annoying stuff from other mmorpgs and fixed them, sure I wish it had more customization but you can't have everything.

Go kill myself now? Are you serious????? :\

I never said 2D games were bad, I said I don't like 2D online worlds because you don't have that sense of immersion so I could care less about exploring it.

I just think you're a big elitist twat.

#5 - EVERY Asian MMO : They are just pointless cookie-cutter copies of each other with aweful translations.

#4 - Horizons (Istaria now) : Took them almost 10 years to make, and released with dated graphics and extremely limited features.

#3 - Ryzom : "Sandbox" only because you can make your own skills.  Otherwise a boring treadmill with a bland theme and TINY community.  Nothing to accomplish.

#2 - Roma Victor : Really?  How the hell did this get here to start with?  I really think this game is a joke made by a couple kids in their basement back in the 90's.

#1 - Fury : Lies, and empty trash.  This game had no depth, no purpose, multiple technical issues, and was such a lack-lustre development it was a insult to release to the public as an MMO.  This is one of the vomit piles that shows why the MMO community continues to lose faith in game developers.  This "game" got the fate it deserved.  Good riddance!

SWG - Jedi Master (Pre-Pub 9 Jedi)
DAoC, EQ, EQ2, Planetside, MxO, EVE, CoH, L2, Ryzom, Horizons, FFXI, Guild Wars, DDO, Auto Assault, Archlord, Vanguard:SoH, LotRO, PotBS, AoC, WoW, Tabula Rasa (RIP)
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth, Aion

I can resist everything but temptation...

8/12/08 1:48:27 AM#148

I can't say that I'm the best analyzer of MMORPGs, but I can tell  you my least favorite games.

1) Horizons - or whatrever it is now:  All I can say is SO. MUCH. HYPE.  You could play as a dragon, build your own village and defend it.  This game was my introduction to MMORPGs (I avoiding EQ like the plaque since I kept hearing it was Ever Crack..plus I wanted to be in on the newest game.) So, this was the biggest let down of my whole gaming career.

2)The Sims Online. Glorified Chat room - that's all I have to say.

3)Second Life   - I have mixed feelings about this place.  I've always wanted to try to build stuff and script it.  Creating my own virtual place seems like fun, but other than that, its rather boring.

4)Runescape - Not much to say about it. But the kiddies love this game. Maybe that's why I dislike it. I just turned 26 today (happy birthday to me!) and I feel so old and stupid for playing that game.

5)FFXI - Definately not the worst, but just my least favorite.  I just wish Square Enix would have done the game a little better.  I was rather bored playing it. I'm definately looking forward to their next project.

6) Fury - Cool concept, but again, terribly done.  Pointless game. It seems as if it were a side game to other game - if you know what I mean.

EDIT: I had two 3's. And, yes, I can count. Just not when coming down off of a Spike energy boost.

Are you guys serious... You guys are naming some bad games such as AoC and Runescape, but the WORST...

1)  Club Penguin - Need I say more

2) ROSE online

3) MU online

4) Goal Line Blitz

5) Auto Assault

Not playing anything....

8/12/08 2:19:03 AM#150

Let's see, just for perspective I've played: UO,EQ1,AC,AO,Lineage1,Horizons,E&B,Ryzom,EQ2,Eve,DDO,Knight Online,City of Heroes,SWG,Matrix,Guild wars, Lotr over the last 11 years or so. (I know I am missing some...).

Only 4 for my worst list :Lineage1, Ryzom, EQ2, Knight Online. Still feel sick when I think about them.

Horizons: not so good but  did have lots of fun completing community projects and I loved my dragon so I can't put it on a worst list.

EQ2 to be fair I left after 4 months from the start and I hear it has changed for the better. It was such a change from the classic EQ1 I just couldn't get in to it and the lag in town was overwhelming at the time I played.

Earth & Beyond: Loved this game and still miss it but it was flawed severely.

Anarchy Online. Loved this one but it was also flawed. Endless missions and laggy pvp.

City of Heroes: Good game marred by boring repetitive missions. Still miss it at times but the only thing I really loved about it besides making up character bios and designing heroes was the ice monster invasion. When it ended I faded away from it. Loved some of the heroe powers, well implemented .

Guild Wars was good but it didn't feel like an mmo, the community was almost hostile as well.

Wow: didn't put this on my list as it was the only game I have beta tested and was so sick of it by the time it went live I never bought it but I'm sure it's a great game.  All those that have played it and are playing it has to be the greatest complement to it. I hope anyway.

Asherson's Call: Never was one of my favorites but I had a ton of friends who loved it.

DDO: Loved this game and would probably still be there if not for lord of the rings. Didn't care for the end game but it was a fun community but had my worst experience ever with a person in it which helped sour me on it enough to leave it (that and Lotr).

Eve: Had some great times and loved the ships but once my corp's folks stopped playing I never got in a good one again and without a good corp you really miss the best part of the game. One of the best but also one of the hardest to get into and play.

Star Wars Galaxies: Never really enjoyed this early on (was very laggy in town) and although a great many friends played it I left. Came back after nge and had a bit of fun for about a month before the shallowness of it got me. Always wanted to be a jedi (like everyone  else) but grinding is not my thing. And once they made it easy I didn't care.

Matrix: Loved the feel of the game but once again a game with boring repetitive missions and a strange combat setup. Should of probably put it on the worst list.

Currently in Lord of the rings. Loved the pvp from the start (on the mp side) but Turbine is finally about to put me off it. The pve side is well done and worth any price but it's just not my thing. Great quests if you like that sort of thing. Only game I ever paid for a lifetime sub.
